Successful Upgrade - 2022 8.4 Uconnect 5 with NAV to 12 Uconnect 5 [with pictures]

@rbusbee thank you for this thread. @Jimmy07 thank you for the harnesses. Great work on those. 1st mod on my 22 BH. Went from 8.4 UConnect 5 non-nav to 12” UConnect 5 Nav. Everything worked as the thread did.

I have a 2022 ram 1500 bighorn. I bought it from an auction site after the radio and hvac controls had been stolen out of it so I don’t know if it ever had navigation or not but I know it had the 8.4” screen. I bought all the parts I needed to upgrade to the 12” radio from mopar. 68526597ac 68504644af and 6uv481x7ab. It fits in good but there’s three spots on the radio I don’t have wires for. I circled them in red. I’m not sure if I need them or if that’s for an option I don’t have. I also have one wire that doesn’t have a spot to go in that is very very close to fitting in the spot on the back of the screen but doesn’t make it. I hooked everything together that I have and none of the buttons work and the screen won’t come on. The sound of Sirius channel one plays over the speakers which can’t be turned off. I have the gateway bypass and alphaobd and I changed the center stack setting from enabled to disabled. Is there anything you guys have in mind that can help me figure this out? I appreciate any help you can give me.

The wide black plug is Ethernet and not used, the double green is WiFi/bluetooth, also not needed. The square black plug needs to be connected to the screen whether you make or buy an adapter for it.

When you say the black plug needs to connect to the screen im guessing you mean the wire in the picture I took that looks like it should be in the screen? Do you know what adapter I would need? Thanks

If anybody has any corrections for the part numbers, let know. I am certain the first two are correct (I ordered both). My truck came with the matte black, and the upgrade I got on ebay came with the glossy, 68469683AA. The matte black, 68469683AA, is actually the cheapest, but I like it better, and it matches the rest of my interior.

Honestly, I cannot imagine why anyone would do this. I consider it a downgrade. I love having simple knobs and buttons to control most things. I have am on my second (2020) and had a 2015 prior. Both with the 8.4, and I would buy a 2025 if I could get the hemi, and an 8.4 Uconnect. My friend has the larger screen, when the sun shines in, he usually can't see a damn thing!

So the radio comes on and I can use the two knobs to control the volume and tuner. The hazard light works and the rear defrost button works. All the other climate control buttons and the screen do not work at all. Any suggestions?? Thanks guys

When I first did mine the screen didn’t come on either. Jimmy07 had me check continuity on the ldvs cable. There is a difference between uc4 and uc5 cables and they plug in, but are not interchangeable. I could not find a uc5 cable, so I cut mine and soldered it back together in the correct configuration.

That shows from 19 up, so might be for uc4. Try checking for continuity like the pic above. If the pins are out of order it won’t work.

Thank you for your help. I changed that cord out with another one I had and the screen comes on now. Unfortunately none of the hvac controls are working. The buttons on the side or the buttons on the screen

Is it possible your truck has single zone climate and the screen/bezel is for dual zone?

I’m not sure actually I bought the truck from an auction site after it had been stolen and the entire radio and controls were stolen so I never knew what was in there.

Someone else posted this on another thread: For the non responsive hvac bezel and stuck-on defrost, I needed to enable Dual zone temperature control with alfaobd, even though my truck does not have that functionality

Anyone on here have your old part numbers handy for uconnect 5 w/ nav?
I am wanting to switch from 8.4 no nav to 8.4 with nav for the hd fm signal. Non-nav are not hd radio, highly noticeable with good aftermarket system. Looking for the receiver and disassociated display part numbers. I don’t want the bigger screen if possible. Mine is 21 Bighorn w/ manual a/c and heated seats/steering (added).
