If I return it to Factory they said they will then try and duplicate it again and will fix it. I have the Ready lift 3.5, so that’s new upper control arms and new tires to return it to factory. The dealership will replace the rack for $3,200. So, for me to bug new control arms and a new set of factory tires just to bring it in to duplicate it I might as well save time and money and just pay it myself with the dealership who is just as confused by the justification of the engineers to argue that a leveling kit could cause internal damage to a rack. Not to mention, after the first time I took it in and reported it and they kept it for a week, I asked will this kit void my warranty and I was told no. So just like the 4 visits to the dealership for about 5 weeks of not having my truck and it is still not fixed, the only person that is constantly inconvenienced throughout this process has been the person who has invested in this product.

I had the same steering issue brought to dealer they said rack was bad I had a wulf 3 inch lift. When I brought it in for the new rack I told them to remove lift and replace with Mopar 2 inch After the install nothing but problems ESC Traction control kept engaging .3 months and at least 12 trips to dealer for sensor replacement and or recalibration. They decided the kit was not for a 2019 Quad Cab with a 6 foot bed .Removed it .Back to stock all was fine.Just now installed ready lift 3.5 with just the 2 inch top hat front and 2 inch spacer rear plus an ORP rear spring now the front only came up 1.5 inches and the rear came up 4 inches.Too much for stock non ORP shocks so now I need to figure how to lower the rear. I feel your pain.Nothing seemed to work out smoothly.Keep at it.

Hello. This is Caleb. This is the exact problem I am talking about.

Caleb,

If you get your dealership to have a technician drive it for an extended period, like drive it home over night, it will duplicate. This issue is that at the dealership they aren’t driving it for long enough, so you will have to give them permission to drive it for the extended period. After months of back and forth they finally duplicated mine and identified it as the rack being faulty. The technician literally stated that it scared the sh@t out of him when he had to break the truck out of a turn. So the part was ordered and was scheduled to be repaired. But, after months of RamCare reps (3-4) and over 6 total weeks in the shop the day the rack was supposed to be installed the Star engineers denied the install. They stated that due to a leveling kit they would not warranty the repair. I had to immediately pick up my truck and everyone went silent. Couldn’t get help from anyone. I would love to hear how they can show a leveling kit could possible do internal damage to a rack?? And since they can’t prove it could, it should be repaired. But, instead I got pushed out the door stuck with a $60k truck that has a safety issue with the steering. There only response is for me to return it to factory configuration and then they will fix it. Lol it would be cheaper for me to just pay to replace the rack myself. They don’t stand behind their product, there are many early manufactured 2019 Rams with this issue and I think they are just trying to avoid a recall. Unfortunately I am currently away with the Army, but once I return I will continue to push to get my truck fixed to the standard in which the manufacturer should hold their product too. Love my truck, but this will be the last dodge/ram/Jeep/Chrysler product I ever own. And before this I swore I would never buy anything other than a Ram or Jeep. But seems that customer service and product backing has gone out the window and Ram Care reps apparently have no boss, so when I asked to speak to someone higher I was told to write a letter. So sad they are ok with the dealer noting the faulty steering rack and FCA says put it back on the road with his family. Hope you don’t have any stickers or window tint they will claim that caused the internal rack flat spot. Worthless.

Well that sucks. I don't have a leveling kit on and I took my aftermarket wheels and tires off (only slightly bigger than stock) and they are going ot drive it more. They already had it in for the leaking rear window and drove it a bit while they had it to try to duplicate the steering problem. They did not duplicate it and said they tightened 2 grounds and all good. Wrong. Picked it up and within 5 miles of the dealership it was doing it. I would just think thatsince there are some known cases out there that they would just check the rack and pinion. The dealership is an hour away so this is not fun. thanks for the response.

So, since there is all this info on here of other peoples problems and fixes, why does this info not get relayed to delerships and field tech engineers? They are acting like there has never been any steering problems except for the loose grounds. Obviously, within minutes of searching on here, I found the same problems where people were having their rack and pinion replaced under warranty. Why has this not been looked at for mine? Why do I have to do all the searching? Why is this not in a big steering problem database? I mean come on. Help the customers a little bit.

2019 RAM 1500 that has the same sticky steering problem. Had it to the dealer and they did the ground cable "fix". This did not cure the problem and I have another appointment. The service writer said he had never heard of this problem and had no ideas of how to fix it. We'll see.......

I apologize for the trouble, @hihousej. If it would be of interest, I would be more than happy to escalate a case on your behalf to a specialist for an additional layer of support as you address this with your dealer. Our team is just a private message away!

When you take it back authorize them to take it for an extend period drive, approximately an hour, it will duplicate then. There is a flat spot in the rack. Mine took 4 trips to the dealership and many reps til it was duplicated. But, on the day of installation an engineer told the dealership not to fix due to my truck having a leveling kit. I am now having to get legal representation just to get to get mine resolved. Best of luck.

Dealing with the exact same issue since truck was purchased brand new. Steering sticks between 9 o’clock to 12 o’clock position usually at speeds of 20 mph and up. Almost caused an accident as I was driving on thruway @70mph around a left side bend and it stuck almost forcing me into a guardrail! Dealer can not replicate they’ve stated and sent me on my way (smh) pretty funny cause it stuck twice on my ride home!! My account has been noted so I guess we await an accident to occur before it gets resolved. Unfortunately this is my work pickup and need It everyday and do not have time to be wasting dropping it off for issues to not be fixed. Truck now has 9000 miles and I’ve been dealing with for every one of those miles.

I have the same problem with my truck started around 13,000 miles. I took it to the dealer and they were not able to duplicate the problem. So I just kind of dealt with it. But it was driving me crazy. Everytime above 30mph I would turn slightly to the left it would stick on me. I finally figured out how to duplicate the problem for the dealer without having them do a test drive. This is what you. Drive the truck for at least 20 minutes so it's warmed up. Park the truck . Grab the steering wheel and turn it about a half an inch to one inch to left. You can actually feel the steering wheel pulling. If you turn it to the right it is perfectly fine.
I set up an appointment with the dealer drove the truck to them and while it was running I brought the service advisor out to try it. He was able to feel it in the steering wheel. They took my truck in, they checked the ground that was part of the recall.(which another dealer was supposed to have already checked out) . They ended up ordered me a new rack pinion steering assembly. Should be in next week.

1.5 years later, 6 visits to the dealership, rental vehicle for collectively 8-9 weeks, and at the stage of getting a lawyer. And now, I’m driving my truck with a brand new steering rack. Drives like it did when I bought it. Patience’s has prevailed.

Got it FIXED!!! Had to take it to a more competent dealer and they immediately found and diagnosed the problem as a bad rack. It was fixed under warranty at no cost. Took a couple of days to get parts, but all's well that ends well. All better now!

RamCares, I sent you a PM (I think, new to forum) on here to escalate as my dealer has not been able to recreate the issue, and are clueless. Sending here also as a second attempt at contacting you so time is not wasted on a lost message. Thanks in advance!

I have the same issue with my 2019 Ram 1500 with steering sticking when turning left on highway. Took it to the dealer when it only had a few hundred miles on it and they stated that's just how electric steering works and you just have to live with it! I haven't done any upgrades to the truck, still all stock.
