Start of 2022 Production.

. When I asked my salesman, he assured me that it would be equipped with the bigger tank. I’m not convinced.
sales people only seem to care about making a sale

if it is not on build sheet it is not on truck, sometimes it can be on the build sheet and not on the truck.

i had a sales person tell me the truck might show up with something and it did not.

Ok I’m a little late to the gas tank size discussion but was hoping I might find some folks who ordered the 26 gallon tank option. When I ordered my truck(s), there was a $0 option to upgrade the 23 gallon tank to 26 gallon. I asked my salesman to select the larger option seeing as it was a free upgrade. However, all signs point to 23 gallon on my build sheet and window sticker. When I asked my salesman, he assured me that it would be equipped with the bigger tank. I’m not convinced.

Have any of you ordered a 26 gallon tank but all documentation called it 23 gallons? Can anyone help me know how to tell when I take delivery? I’m hoping I can get an “oops” discount from the dealer.
I have a hard time believing it would list 23 gallons on your WS if that isn't what was installed. I'll check mine tomorrow to see if there's an easy way to tell.

Aside from that, we just got the truck back home this afternoon. I'll say I never felt like I was shortchanged with 23 gallons. I needed to stop before I was ever close to needing fuel. The eTorque was very nice to have during dead stop traffic on I-10.

I got the 33 gallon more for bot having to fuel it as often, not necessarily for road trips. But I also like being able to take advantage of cheaper gas when I can and if I can get 10 extra gallons it makes going a little out of my way more worthwhile.

Yep, definitely understand that. I wanted to squeeze all the payload I could out of it or I'd have gone 33 gallon just to have it.

I realize this debate won't likely end soon, but I'll throw in my two cents.

I am not convinced that Ram is focusing on later orders because of money. I fairly firmly believe that their system is VERY messed up, due to the "order simplification" process that they instituted a few months ago. I've seen a few snippets of correspondence from FCA, stating that they have to manually rework several older orders to align them with their current system. So my theory is that they're slowly reconfiguring these older orders while building the streamlined ones in larger volumes.

I'm sure that some of the issues stem from parts shortages. Not necessarily empty shelves, but the package substitutions that they made early on (Level 2 vs. Level B, as an example). You should see the mess that has been created on the TRX packages. There are quite a few people who are now taking delivery of $90k-$100k trucks that are missing several items (like the Harman Kardon stereo, Head Up Display, and Digital Rearview Mirror). FCA appears to have completely botched the conversion of the packaging there.
I talked to Ram Chat and they said all the components needed were available and it was waiting to go into production. Hard to say how far back in the brush it was sitting and waiting. My salesman may have been a tad optimistic...for my benefit.

this is a standard reply from ram chat

ask dealer for a copy of the poc.

Sounds like the exact message I got when I went D1. As @bigdodge said, I'd ask your dealer for an updated POC. Should have your ESD listed which will give you an idea of when yours should be built.

I ordered the 26 gal tank. Zero cost to upgrade to it. I haven't gotten a POC in a while but it was always listed on the POCs I got shortly after I ordered. Like you, I opted for the 26 over the 33 to maximize payload. Took my 2019 Bighorn and camper to the CAT scales one time and I was right at the 7100 GVWR max for the truck. Would have loved the 33 but had to compromise.

was told that the cost to upgrade to a 33 gallon in the future was up in the 5k range. I’m not sure if this is accurate. I’m happy I went with 33 gallons now than later down the road.

My first Rebel order had the 26-gallon upgrade. But when I reordered, that option was unavailable. So I had to choose between the 23 gallon tank and the $400+ upgrade to 33 gallons. I chose the 33 gallon option.
Given the fact that Ram has sneaked in other substitutions (like deleting power folding mirrors), I wouldn’t be surprised at all to hear that they’re downgrading the “free” tank size to 23 gallons. If your build sheet says 23 gallons, then that’s what you are getting.

Yes but the weight of those extra 10 gallons ends up costing you about the same in gas mileage as you saved in fuel cost. If there is 5 cents different in fuel cost it takes 20 gallons to make a $1 difference. For 10 extra gallons every 2 times you fill up you save $1. $445 for a larger gas tank you would have to fill up roughly 900 times to recoup the money. For most of us that fill up once per week that would be 17 years to recoup that cost. For those that do a lot of towing the 33 gallon tank makes a lot of sense. Other wise you are just paying extra for a larger tank so you can brag that yours is bigger.

Sorry for the breakdown. I'm an engineer and project manager. All I do is look at and crunch numbers all day mostly for cost benefit analysis. Those of you that wanted a 33 gallon tank I don't judge you at all for getting what you wanted. I really only wanted a Laramie but I really wanted the HUD so I overpaid to get the limited when they made the package changes. As much as we are paying for these trucks you should get what you want and what makes you happy and love your truck.

In California it’s a 40 to 50 cent per gallon difference to buy gas from Costco ($4.15) and a top tier ($4.59). I would have gotten the 26 gallon if I had known it was free though. I’ll just trust your math and assume it will take me 100 fill ups at 40 to 50 cent a gallon savings to break even.

Today's cryptic answer from Ram Chat:

Thank you so much for holding. I am showing that your vehicle is in the shipping stage however a Dealer ETA has not been provided. It will remain in this stage until delivered to the Dealer.

Do y'all suppose this means it's on a train car or truck somewhere? My contact at the dealership is out until Tuesday, and as much as I've been blowing up their phone, I don't want to start over with someone else there...
