Yea I got the 26gal so most of it was similar like the fuel pump. So my 33gal should be here in 2hrs (driver just called me) so will see what it looks like what Im seeing I need from under the car without removing the old tank just yet. Then I will need to start ordering these hoses and vent tubes, etc.

Just odd that one member (@bcpsw) who had the dealer do it and screenshot their invoice doesnt even show those two extra hose parts we just discovered in parts diagram cross referencing unless it truly isnt needed or they just pulled the house to make it fit or something.
I agree. I asked about getting more detail from them and they never responded. I hate to get this all tore apart and not be able to complete it due to a missing hose.

Well boys (and gals) looks like I lucked out.
Tank arrived. And it came with damn near everything. All three straps. Entire fuel line assembly. Pump. Evap canister. Hell even has some gas lol. I doubt I will need much in parts now. Just need to analyze the diagram to see what’s missing.

I’m going to update the parts list tonight for you all. But I can tell you right now parts are missing from the original invoice the previous member posted. Definitely going to need hose and vapor lines (like me don’t need it thanks to them giving me the whole damn tank assembly). Even canister part is listed different. But won’t know how different till I pull my old one.
But sounds like better option would be to get a junkyard to just give you this whole assembly like me. Sourcing all these other parts I’m going to say easily going to hit now 600-700. If we add in the hose and vapor lines needed for sure. Even canister as that is listed different then mounting clips for the canister. This could be easily 10-15 parts off the top of my head looking at this tank and looking at the bottom of my truck as well as what I see on parts diagrams.

Alright folks, here is what Ive gathered so far after looking at this tank and parts diagrams. Here is what I really think you all going to need. I will modify or update this later once I make the swap, but will be slightly different for me since I got a good bit of parts already.

Here are all the parts and costs I found for them that I believe you will need as the parts diagrams show them as different part numbers for 33gal tank vs 23/26gal.

---------------------
68408876AC - 33gal tank #1 on diagram (fuel tank) $411.60
68312139AB - Hose Vent #4 on diagram (fuel tank) $40.65
68312140AC - Hose Fuel Return #5 on diagram (fuel tank) $30.86
52030458AB - Strap Fuel Tank #8 on diagram (fuel tank) (Third strap needed in addition to the two existing from 26gal $20.07
06104717AA - Nut Flange Hex #9 on diagram (fuel tank) Need this for strap above $2.53

68307831AA - Tube Vapor for Crew Cabs #1 on diagram (hose fuel) (Mounted to drivers side frame rail) $20.76
52029908AB - Hose Purge #2 on diagram (hose fuel) or #3 on diagram (vent canister) (Cannot reuse 26gal one, too short) $31.35

52030443AB - Bundle Fuel Line #4 on diagram (vapor canister) $44.72
52029888AB - Canister Vapor #5 on diagram (vapor canister) Shows different part number from 23/26gal $103.53
52029909AC - Hose Filter to Canister #8 on diagram (vapor canister) Shows different part number from 23/26gal $13.57
---------------------

Thats 10 parts I see. The cost on all that is $720 or so before any tax or shipping. Probably will be easily over $800-850 if shipped with tax. Im attaching the diagrams as well as I reference them in the information above.

I know for me looking at my tank from the junkyard, Im going to need the 52029909AC since that didnt come with it, and will need the 68307831AA, this one I know I need cause that vapor line right now is against the drivers frame rail and its going to be too long and will need this part number to accommodate the quick disconnect fitting on it. Then I will pull my tank down and hopefully compare some parts to see if my list above holds water or not, but according to the diagrams, it seems like they are needed.

Thank you for taking the time out to list your findings for us. This will go a long way towards saving those of us that want to do this some mental anguish. :)

Great info but bad news for me haha. I ordered all the parts on the list plus the couple we saw yesterday. But I have a 23 gallon tank and now if I have to get the fuel pump and vapor canister is another $450 putting all parts just over $1,000 to do a swap on a 23 gallon tank.

Thank you for detailing this. Looks like I need the vapor canister now too. I didn’t even think of looking at salvage yards since these are so new and not all have the tank I need. Great job finding that as it’s definitely going to save money and time.

Well I ordered my 3 parts (forgot above to mention the Nut/Flange which I need since we need to use all 3 straps) at a local dealer, unfortunately no one has two of the parts around us, so has to come from Michigan, so guess that will be 2-3 business days. So maybe Saturday (then could do it this weekend) or Tuesday (apparently they dont take deliveries Monday) or so I can get all this ready to swap out like an in and out swap so I dont even need to move any parts off one and the other, except I believe just the main fuel line thats attached to the tank which is the same on both, but it has to come down with the tank anyways.

Well don’t ask me why but I randomly decided to pull my fuel pump today. I was intending on just swapping the whole tank as I got it. Well I open it and this is what I find.

First a fuel pump that looks super crooked. And a baffle sitting inside the tank just loose.

So lol if you get one junked and been In a serious crash, uh check the inside.

Man I’m glad I did. If I didn’t Id be up a creek after it would’ve been installed and only getting the same gallons and fuel gauge all jacked up.

Just in case y’all didn’t get the gravity of the situation on the pump assembly I pulled out. Here is what it SHOULD look like. So yes what I pulled out was bent almost at a 45degree angle. If I didn’t pull this out and popped the tank in, man I’m lucky if I even had access to even 15gals cause the fuel level float was like 6” off the floor on its lowest point which would’ve signaled empty.

This is simply amazing it happened. The truck it came off head a head on collision and basically like wrapped around the pole from the front. Imagine how much G forces it took to do this with the assistance of fuel in the tank as well. Simply amazing.

Can someone here help me on how many tanks are actually available. My build sheet says 27.4 gallon tank. Is there a smaller and then of course bigger 33 gallon?
im trying to order rock sliders and they say 26 gallon tank compatibility and I don’t want to order stuff that’s expensive to ship and it don’t work with the tank I have.
any help / insight would be appreciated

23, 26, 33 are the only options I’m aware of

if the build sheet states 27.4 how the heck do I tell if it’s the 26 gallon? Is there any way at seeing the difference just by looking at them. Stupid Dodge build sheet wrong?

that is odd I haven’t seen that. Let me check my build sheet. I would say it is 26. If it were 33 it would have been on your window sticker since it’s considered an option whereas the 23 & 26 are standard based upon the config of your truck. Going to check mine now.

update: mine says 26 gal fuel tank on the build sheet. Yours says 27.4?

Use this to verify. Make sure you're signed in. You may have to create an account if you haven't already.

Well old one out. New one in. Here is a teaser of them side by side. I’ll write a more detailed post later.

Only took about 2hrs. Dropped the whole tank myself actually.

27.4 imperial gallons = 33 US gallons, more or less. Are you in Canada?

Nice job. I am really looking forward to your write up. I am waiting on a few more parts and hope to get this completed soon. I’m still afraid I’ve missed something
