Rear window surround crack.

Had my rear window replaced in December 2019, 2 cracks, one leaking. My theory was the install at the factory on some units was not handled properly. The glass specialists that installed did a great job - I watched the whole process.

Sorry to say 5 months later it's leaking again in the same place (driver's side, by the sliding window frame). No crack this time however. I'll inspect on the next sunny day from the truck bed (last time, I could see the crack from the outside). My replacement was the latest "E" denoted part. Very disappointing. At least for me this rules out install problem as the cause. These windows are clearly designed wrong or using weaker plastics.

At this point I'll try and fix myself with some of the great products recommended on this thread. Ordered the Tesla weather stripping and may consider applying silicone from the outside if I can see the crack.

I don't see a point in going through the multi dealer visit hassle to get a window replaced while they are still using these faulty rear windows.

finally noticed a leak coming from the top center frame on the inside when I was using the power washer to clean truck the other day. mine is a 6-19 build. there has to be a huge percentage of trucks with some sort of leaking.

I really hope by the time mine cracks and leaks they will have fully redesigned the window so it no longer cracks and leaks. I can't believe it's been this long and they still are using the same window with the same design flaw.

I put a poll on Facebook about a week ago. It was a shockingly low percentage of people with leaks. Granted, a very non-scientific poll...buy it was something like 150 no to 13 leaks. 8 additional had leaks that were successfully fixed. Here's the poll if anyone is curious.

so if my leak was seen on the window frame and my headliner was dry it still may be the 3rd brake light? I don't physically see a crack yet on the bezel....

The rear window leak it seems does not hit the headliner. Water comes in from the top of the plastic/glass.

Headliner wet would indicate brake light leak.

This picture of the crack i took back in January, it show cracked line but i never seen water or wet spot anywhere. Today i bring the car in for 2 recall (W33 and W25) so i show my advisor the crack, he said he will have tech looking into and call me. Anyway after couple hrs he called, recall taken care and the rear window need to replace, they got 1 in stock so he will keep the car and replace it, should be done next day.

OK, so got the 'Tesl;a' windshield noise seal: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N1DXSH5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It fits very well, you need to stretch it a bit to get it through the gap between glass and cab, but it slips in very nicely and you don't see it at all. Maybe this $9.00 fix will eliminate the risks of having it replaced. Also, if you don't want to mess with RTV, this might be a cleaner solution. I have 2 more seal/trims coming this week but this tesla one will be hard to beat. Since we're dealing with tiny cracks, I hope this is enough to block the water.

It's too damn windy and cold for me to put all of it in and take photos today, but i tried a 3 inch area and it worked well.

@LimitedGRR how’s it holding up? Reviews on it are pretty bad through the link you provided but most are actual Tesla owners... maybe better fit for our trucks? Lol

so far so good. its a snug fit but it wouldn't take much to push it in behind the glass. So far the tension on it is good but I'm keeping an eye on it. don't worry about the amazon reviews, this one seems to fit well for us. The only thing is if the tension softens and it slips behind the glass. I think maybe a few dabs of silicon adhesive on the top edge of the glass before inserting it will solve that problem and hold it in place. That might be this weekends project.

So far my replacement isn't leaking, been since Feb, and we've had plenty of rain. Barely any miles though due to this CV19 ********.. I don't think I'm past 3k miles yet, purchased late Dec.

M****** F***** !!!!!!!! window was leaking today for the first time, even with those seals squeezed in. Took to dealer, they have one in stock. Waiting on FCA approval since they will contract the work out to a VERY GOOD local glass shop. It looks like even if you seal the area between glass and cab, the water will seep in around the 3rd brake light area and behind the seal unless you RTV the S**T out of the area. Oh well, lets hope the replacement works.

Keep us posted. I have your recommended parts on order to address.

I just tried to duplicate/pinpoint my leak using a tea kettle full of water, which worked last time pouring it all over the brake light and rear window.

However, I cannot duplicate this one. Not sure what's going on here.

There is a big rainstorm coming tomorrow so I'll go out and see if it's coming in again.

FCA approval came within a couple of hours and I dropped the truck off tonight. Should be wrapped up tomrw along with recall items (camera update and wiper arm torque) and an oil change. Glad to be able to bundle it all up in one visit.

My entire rear passenger side window spontaneously shattered while driving and FCA is refusing to warranty repair it. Can you assist me in som eway? I believe these hairline cracks were on my window as well which resulted in a weakening that left it susceptible to failure. THANKS!

Im am battling FCA regarding what seems to be a catastrophic consequence of having these cracks: the entire rear passanger window shattered while driving last week and FCA says its not able to be warranty repaired because "an outside force acted upon it" Trucks are designed to be driven right? How would outside forces not act upon the tires and travel up though the suspension and frame? Would anyone who had these cracks or a blowout of their window be able to help me by providing the last 8 of their VINs? FCA is debying that they have repaired any 2019Rams for this issue but clearly this thread proves otherise
