Wow, I thought this was just another thread of someone complaining about very minor problems as if the world were coming to an end. But that is really bad. Sucks to see such poor fitment, and even worse to hear of such a terrible process to get it resolved. I don't expect perfect body lines like you expect on a German car, but that is not acceptable. Hope your resolution comes easy. I have no idea if those lids are adjustable.

Why did you have to point this out, now I see that mine are similar, but I'm living with them until i see how your process goes. I don't pay that much attention so I don't think it bugs me as much as it bugs you but if it can be fixed ill do it.
The slamming had been a problem since day one but now its getting better, driver side shuts good with minimal force still working on the passenger side.

I was told the process to replace the kids was to take a bunch of precise measurements, go to a body shop, get quotes, send them to the factory, wait for approval, then order the lids. Recieve lids, get them painted and install. Will take months.
I don't understand why you'd have to go through this process.

If your lids don't fit and it's a problem with how that particular set of lids was manufactured, you'd think Ram would just let you order new parts to replace them, no body shop involved.

If it's a case of poor design, I would imagine a STAR case would be opened and an FCA engineer would come out to obtain the measurements.

Sending a customer to a 3rd party body shop to get measurements/specs to send to FCA sounds like a horrible process that is ripe for errors, and I can't see FCA signing off on a 3rd party design for remanufacturing a component.

Fully agree with you.

You know I was considering getting the ramboxes on my possible future truck but I'm starting to have second thoughts lol. Maybe just using the bed with that partition will be good enough.

Quick (unrelated) question. How do they lock/unlock? Do they have a electronic system like the doors/tailgate or do you have to use the physical key on them? I see both a button and a key so I assume they work either way?

I love this truck. Best truck I've ever owned. But let's talk about these ramboxes. SLOPPY! Just unsat sloppy. The gaps are way off, they warp and rub when it's hot outside, and they are nowhere near flush with the rest of the body. Oh, and you have to slam them. Just sloppy. And there are swirls in the paint on the rambox lids. Any suggestions? Spoke with my dealer and the process to get new kids is insane and I will be transferred to California by the time they could get anything moving with replacement parts.
Mine are not 100% aligned either as the top rails are slightly curved on both sides. After my first wash I did notice some swirl marks in them. I attributed it to the same ordeal I had in a black 4 door wrangler with a painted hard top with swirl marks all over it. I just assume they are both painted separately from the vehicle and the quality is not the same. I was able to fix it with some polish and wax

Do you have to slam yours to close?
For the price of these trucks that is totally unacceptable. If it were me I'd be pushing hard on the dealership and RAM... A Porsche Boxster can cost less and no one would accept if the doors weren't aligned.... Best of luck getting that fixed -

With my 2013 ram boxes I had some similar problems but the dealer was able to adjust the hinges and the latch to allow the to look and work correctly . I speak with the service manager about getting them adjusted. I've ordered a 2019 Long Horn with ram boxes. We'll see how they look. 2013 ram box lids were made of fiberglass.

The ramboxes lids on my 2014 ram 2500 limited were made of thicker plastic or had more internal reinforcement than the lids on my current truck. They were simply much sturdier than the current lids in my experience. I wonder if this is part of the problem with the current lids in that they seem to warp and twist easier and need to be slammed to close. Obviously if the current lids are made differently than the previous lids, then some type of reinforcing fix would need to be employed in order to address these issues.

What material are the new lids made of?

I jumped all over my 09 rambox lids which is probably why they eventually lost their alignment. I eventually had to slam them closed but they held up well for 9 years and still are in good shape. Minus the plastic fading being fixed with edge dressing (magical btw).

Hopefully these new lids are not debt and warp prone like the f150 Mexican military grade aluminum beds. The lids really should have dual latches one on each side.
