I’m been researching the radar detectors, what brand you all recommend? Where are you mounting it? I’ve seen several rear view mirror mounts where it isn’t as noticeable meeting cops. Has anyone had any luck with it?

Like everything else in life, it all depends on your budget...

You can get a decent RD for about $300. How much are you looking to spend, and what features are you looking for?
A good place to start looking is Vortex channel on YouTube. Boatloads on videos and info. More than we can ever provide here.

I personally run a V1 on a mirror mount, along with V1Driver iPhone app for GPS lockouts.
Once Radenso comes out with their AI model at the end of the year, I will upgrade to that if it’s as good as they claim it will be for eliminating false BSM alerts.

I just tested the Escort 360C and Uniden R7. I kept the R7. Escort has some serious QC issues (still....ongoing for years)

You can buy refurb Escort 360 units on ebay for $250 I believe. Good unit.

The new Radenso Theia will make them all obsolete later this year.

I have a couple blend mounts and the sticky cups. I switch around. The stickies are nicer as the unit can be mounted high where it's not easily seen.

Most of my miles are commuting on the highway to and from work. I would just be looking for a quality one that might help me stay off the gas if there is a trooper near. That mount on the mirror looks clean, was it very hard to install?

This is the one I keep going back too, would you all recommend the escort over thIs?

I haven't really had any complaints with my Escort 360, but they are expensive, and the cheaper competition has likely caught up/beat them... haven't researched in several years, but Radenso looked promising too at the time.

Man that V1 looks ancient...

In that case the R3 is a great choice. That’s the one I had in mind when I mentioned the $300 price.
Mirror mounts are easy to install. Just take your time running the wiring around A pillar.

Cheers,

The R3 is a very good detector. You'll get annoyed with the BSM falsing, tho.

Honestly using the Waze app while driving has been very effective for me. It's rare to see a cop running radar or parked on the highway that I'm not alerted to...and I drove 60,000 miles for work this past year.

Yeah and with instant on tech that cops use these days, I dont see how a radar detector could be any better than waze. Not saying Waze has every trap and is perfect but it's not like the old days with a cop hiding behind a sign with his radar gun pointed out the window. By the time you detect it, he already clocked you.

As good as Waze is (I run it along with my RD), it’s still not as good as having a dedicated RD, since you are depending on other people reporting to Waze. For new threats, you could be the first car that sees it.

Also, if you have a RD with good range, you will pick up instant-on from the radar gun lighting traffic ahead of you. Nothing’s 100% infallible, but you will be more protected using both.

Cheers,

Uniden R3 is very good (and the unit I have) I also use in combination with Waze. For me it's about information gathering to make decisions since no detector or app is going to make you immune to the risk :)

This heavy weighted Beanbag friction mount has been perfect for the basin on the front dash and I was able to tuck all of the wires underneath.

It has not moved since I placed it there and I live off a curvy road.

I had a Uniden R3 for a year and LOVED it...best detector I ever bought and I had a V1 and Escort and sold them both. When the R7 came out, I sold my R3 on facebook and bought the R7...AMAZING detector and blows the Escort Max360 out of the water along with the much outdated V1. If you are going to buy a detector and don't look at the R3 and R7, you are making a huge mistake.

Pic of my R3 using a Blendmount and custom hard wired...haven't taken a new one with my R7 yet

Blows the 360 out of the water how, exactly?

Most testers and reviews on places like rdforum find them comparable. I ran the 360C and R7 side by side and back to back for a month recently. I didn't see much difference other than the Escort being much quieter around BSM, but it's $200 more so I returned it for now and am running the R7.

I go by vortexradar.com reviews and use that as my level set. There is no disputing real world testing and data. For me, price has never played a role in my making a decision to purchase...as an anal EE, that researches electronic purchases to death, there is no additional value to me in the Escort and the R7 outperforms the Escort. I am all about sensitivity and flexibility and not all the "bells and whistles". We all buy things for a specific reason. However, if you are looking for performance, the R7 should be at the top of your list.

So your claim is based on someone else's testing and not your own experience?

That is correct as there is no way for 99.99% of the population to have the necessary equipment, time and testing parameters to maintain consistency. There is no disputing real data versus you putting two detectors on your dash and doing your best to determine how each reacts to specific situations.

I'm looking for a good mirror mount for my Escort Passport 9500IX RD that works good with my 19 Rebel mirror.

The Blendmounts are VERY pricy but well made and work great. Highly recommend and have been using them in several vehicles for years.
