I'm looking for a good mirror mount for my Escort Passport 9500IX RD that works good with my 19 Rebel mirror.
Check eBay for some good quality mirror mounts. Just picked one up for less than 25.

I had a Uniden R3, and while it is a good detector I got so many false alerts it was virtually worthless for me. I sold it and got a Escort Max 360C. Night and day difference in false alerts. The app for Escort is a good idea, but the implementation sucks. I never use it because it's too buggy. Escort customer service sucks. Known issues with the app and they won't do anything about it. That being said I'd never go back to the R3 because of false alerts.

I had an R3 and now have the R7. Both are fully customizable through the various menu settings. If you go through the menu, you'll find numerous ways to tweak the Uniden's sensitivity to your liking. The R7 now allows you to balance front and rear antennas or adjust the sensitivity there as well. There are also videos and information on vortexradar.com that will walk you through the setting and help you decide which are best for you. If you leave it at factory default, you are asking for false alarms.

Yes I went through all the settings and used Vortex Radar's suggested settings. No amount of adjusting got it to work well for me. I'm not saying Escort is better/has longer range or anything like that. It is better at filtering. Much quieter. I used to have a V1 and Escort 9500ix. Kind of the same with those two as well. V1 had better raw power/range but the Escort filtered better. It all depends on what you are looking for. The R7 sounds nice.

I’m been researching the radar detectors, what brand you all recommend? Where are you mounting it? I’ve seen several rear view mirror mounts where it isn’t as noticeable meeting cops. Has anyone had any luck with it?

I bought a Cobra RAD 450 Detector at one of the popular Freeway Gas Stations. Paid, if I remember $150, and have not been disappointed. It has taken me safely through more than one Radar situations. As someone said in this Forum "Depending on what you can afford......" could be your decision maker..

I use to run a radar detector back in the day and I then decided to buy one on a wim last year, a Uniden DFR8 but have only used it once, just don't really have a need for it anymore. Probably going to put it up for sale if interested.

I have the Uniden R7. I mounted on the Velcro they gave me and stuck it just to the left of the dashboard center cubby on the top of the dash board. Now I have noticed strange things happening to the console display. The speaker balance screen pops up, or the phones number book. I had an incoming call and had to push the answer button on the phone for it to answer, neither the on screen nor the talkie face on the steering wheel would work.
I did notice the speaker balance pop up when I moved the coiled power cord. It was/is hanging in front of the HMI. Is this thing sending out RF via the coiled cord to the HMI cauing this or anyone else have or had and issue like this? I do plan on moving it up near the mirror but now want to be sure that I can get rid of this strange activity.
Thanks.

Get it off the dash and up on the windshield or use a mirror mount. All radar detectors emit RF. Te higher the mounting of the detector, the better the range and performance.

Yeah, I plan on doing that when it warms up.

I have a V1 with the OBD power adapter and Bluetooth. I ran the cable up the A pillar and tucked in the headliner against the windshield. Up high next to the rear view mirror and can fully control the false alarms and settings through the V1 app (Bluetooth). I mostly use it for off highway alerts, driving on state routes and back roads where on the move detection is happening. For the highway Waze does a pretty good job as a supplement or even as the primary. With the 2 I’m feeling pretty good about coverage and have very few false alarms.

When I bought my truck, I decided to get into the RD world. I ended up picking an R3 for the superior detection. I’ve tweaked the settings to significantly cut down on BSM falses at the expense of K band sensitivity. Where I live, I’ve only come across one small town running K band so I don’t mind the trade off. Ka band detection is great and hasn’t let me down.

In my Subaru Legacy I drove back in 2013-16, I had a RD in a Blend Mount mirror mount with power for the RD and my dash cam tapped off the mirror. I never got around to putting one in my Silverado from 2016-19, but when I put one in my Ram, I was hesitant to go the mirror mount route. Something about the combination of my height and the position of the mirror made it seem like a mirror mount would be too low and intrusive in my view. I opted to get a metal mount with 3M VHB tape and put it up near the headliner. Perfectly in reach for me and completely out of my view when I’m not looking up at it. It’s super easy to run a wire across the front of the headliner and down the pillar to the fuse block under the dash. I’m pretty sure it was less work to do that than it would have been to try to disassemble the mirror to get to the wiring.

I noticed one for the first time in a LONG time this week and I was quite surprised. I haven't used one in 20yrs and didn't even think they were relevant anymore. Personally, I don't drive very fast these days. Doing so in a truck never made sense to me and that's all I drive now.

Sounds like you guys are pretty up to speed on detectors. No pun intended. I haven't had one in a while and would like your opinion on this one.

Our sheriffs department uses K-band a lot. I run my R-3 wide open in HWY mode and the "false" alerts do not bother me.
The Ka-band sensitivity is fantastic, picked up a radar from roughly 5 miles away on the Alligator-alley Florida last Christmas.
