Pulsar on a 2020+

CMil527 : To answer ur question as for cable to update software. It isn't included with unit purchase. It's a optional accessory

Pulsar OBDII to USB Update Cable - 98105

Thank u sir.. any idea what the charge? Always found it handy with my handhelds as you could get the most up to date software on their "canned" tunes.

You can find it for different prices on internet. Just do a search for Pulsar 98105 update cable. Here's a screenshot of edge products price. You'll have to download the software update agent 1.0 for PC to use with cable for updates the software is free to download.

Are they all the same part number for the 19-21? I can only find one online that says it works with all 3.
Yes, amazon also has it incorrect for their filter. They replied to my question asserting the fact. Additionally, I've had it on my truck a couple of days now and has worked great

Any pedal commander users that switched to the pulsar? Is there really a performance increase or just a snappier pedal? Worth upgrading fron the pedal commander?

what is the part number for the PC for 2021 Rams with 5.7?

I'm not sure of the PN but the model is PC78. Loving every mile!!

I would REALLY like to know too. I've only been in Sport+ one time on the PC. Spun the tires from a stoplight!

Are you guys running premium fuel while in performance mode? I normally run 89 I know some guys were saying if you run performance mode to use premium. Can anyone explain why? I know higher octane is cleaner and more power but as far as running performance mode without premium is it going to hurt anything? Thanks.

I am running 91 as advised. Due to the advanced timing, you want to run premium to avoid spark knock/detonation.

All gasoline grades have the same chemical energy, octane is a scale of how quick and easy that energy is released.

Higher octane equals more resistance to knock. Since it is a bit slower burning, the timing advance allows the engine to light the charge earlier without damaging the rotating assembly.

Timing advance is where the "more power" comes from.

I’m sorry can you explain this to me like I’m stupid lol the rotating assembly as in the drive shaft? And what exactly is timing advance?

Rotating assembly will he your pistons, wrist pin, connecting rods, and crank.
Detonation that occurs too early can send a shock wave into the rotating assembly while the piston is still on the compression stroke. This can cause the wrist pins to get loose/break, bend/break a connecting rod, bend/break a crank, etc etc. The worst case scenario is you destroy your engine and all the guts that rotate inside are now outside.

There are really good write-ups and videos to explain how a four stroke engine works and how timing comes into play.

so In short not running premium could potentially destroy your engine while in performance mode.

Absolutely, if it gets beyond what the computer can account for. I don't specifically know how FCA monitors the engine, but your knock sensors are supposed to pull timing to keep you safe. Although, there could be a situation where a really aggressive tune and low octane fuel grenade the motor anyway.

On top of the timing advance from the Pulsar programming the motors have a compression ratio of 10.5:1 which is certainly in premium fuel territory. My truck is stock and I only put premium in.
( still waiting on more reviews to get the pulsar) Timing advance is a term for the computer “advancing” when to send the spark to the spark plug so that the fuel and air in the cylinder starts to combust just before the piston reaches Top Dead Center or it’s highest point in the cylinder. Since the fuel and air doesn’t burn instantly you want the spark to happen just before it reaches TDC, but this can cause a lot of knocking if the right grade fuel isn’t used. I think the Pulsar manual says to only run premium if in Tow or Performance.
Hope that helps :)

It does a lot ! Thanks!

I haven't been using premium but I will next tank.

Saw they came out with a new model not too long ago, anyone know what’s different?

Mine was acting up and I returned it and they sent me a new one. They said it has a new and improved board. From the outside it looks a bit different.

same thing happened to me, I read that this one can clear codes?

Sure would like some feed back on this.
