Bought a new 3500 Laramie and the drivers side running board is having difficulties immediately after delivery. It sometimes doesn’t deploy and often when it retracts it stops and redeploys. The display reports a possible obstruction but that’s not an issue. Dealer had it for a week and they couldn’t get it to repeat enough to diagnose even though it doesn’t work for me more than it works properly, go figure. dealer said they tested everything and the passenger side works flawlessly. I wanted them to preplace the motor and hinges but they said Dodge told them to send it back to me if they couldn’t reproduce issue. Dealer said they are liable for cost of parts taken off if Dodge tests and confirms they were good but I’m getting really tired of it not working. It will be going back into shop soon but if they again say they can’t reproduce I’ll go crazy. I’ve sent them numerous videos of it not working. i think it’s a failed motor. Anyone else have this issue?

Hi @FL-Ram & @Skater - I am more than willing to escalate a case on your behalf to a customer care specialist if you address this concern further with your dealers. Our team is always a private message away!

Thank you. My dealer had it in their ahop for a week addressing this issue and two minor others and sent it back saying they couldn’t reproduce and they tested everything. I’ve informed them it continues to fail consistently. i won’t comment on their statement it didn’t fail for them and even if that’s true they saw the videos I sent. Anyway, they are contacting an “FCA Engineer” to determine the course of action as I told them next time i send this they need to replace some hardware. I think it’s a bad motor which is both hard to diagnose and matches the symptoms of it slowly deploying sometimes. I doubt the computer is sending variable voltages. It’s either on or off and a slow motor screams of being bad. Computer reports a possible obstruction when trying to retract. I’ll give my dealer another shot at this. I was hoping others experienced same such I could be more informed.

Thank you, Mark. I intend to drop it off next week at one of my local dealers to have the running board fixed. If the service department is unable to correct the problem, I will PM you for assistance.

What does that exactly mean? I’m having a bit of difficulty getting my dealer to commit to a date to bring it back in. I’m going to give them much longer to consult their FCA Engineer whomever that is

Sounds like a great plan to me, I will be on the lookout for a follow up from you!

Thank you for following up to provide these details, it is great to hear that your dealer is already consulting with our internal technical resources! If you would be willing to send over your VIN via PM, I would be more than willing to look into your situation on my end and get a case escalated on the customer care side so that one of our specialists could work alongside you and the dealer while they consult our engineering teams.

Hey FL-Ram. Same problem here. 2020 3500 Limited. Driver's power step started working intermittently as soon as the paperwork was signed (go figure lol). Dealer has ordered a replacement board for that side and I'm waiting for it to get in. However, these are just AMP Research boards and I was checking out the YouTube video of a guy with the same problem......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGw9aXaJKss. Looks like it may be a control board problem. Not sure where it is on the RAM since it's OEM, but just thought I'd share. Good luck!

I finally was able to get my Limited into the dealer today. Service Rep. told me there was dirt stuck in the hinges causing the need for replacement. He stated it will take two to three weeks to get the parts, and he would contact me when the parts arrive. I'm not a mechanic, so I cannot controvert the diagnosis. He did inform me the technician lubed the hinges well and it was working. I should have checked it before I left, because it was not. Nevertheless, I will patiently wait until the new parts arrive and provide an update once installed.

PM sent. More than two weeks have passed and I have not received any response from my dealer that the parts necessary to fix my passenger side running board have been delivered.

Thanks for any help you may provide to get the parts to my dealer.

Notwithstanding some forum members believe Mark (RamCares) was unable to reasonably assist in remedying their warranty service issue, that was not the case with my running board malfunction. If you read above, you will see that I took my Ram to my local dealer to have the passenger side power running board malfunction repaired. I was told by my service representative that a couple of weeks would be required for delivery of necessary parts from the factory. I was shocked at the stated required length of time but understood the time necessity having been a member in this forum and read about many members’ lengthy waits for factory replacement parts for a 5th generation Ram.

Since more than two weeks elapsed without contact from my service representative, I called him and texted him; however, I received no response. Sensing a lack of concern and customer care by my service representative, I contacted RamCares in this forum and explained my dilemma. What happened next was pleasantly surprising. Within 48 hours of contacting RamCares (which time was comprised of a Saturday evening, all-day Sunday, and this Monday morning), he responded with a case number elevating my issue (although I am not sure what that means). Additionally, within that same 48 hours, my service representative called and texted me to request that I bring my Ram in to have the parts installed. Moreover, I received a call and voice message from another Ram Cares representative reassuring me that action had been taken ensure the parts required to repair my running board were delivered to the dealer and a request that I call him back to discuss my issue to confirm I had been contacted by the dealer to have the repairs performed.

Contrary to the negative experiences I have read about being endured by other members in this forum, RamCares was responsive, courtesies, and took immediate action to assist me.

Thank you, RamCares. Your presence here in this forum and your assistance in resolving my issue are very much appreciated.

I have scheduled the installation of the parts for this Friday afternoon. I will provide you with an update once the repairs have been completed.

As an update—

This morning, I was finally able to get my Ram into the dealer to the get the passenger side running board hinges replaced. Brian, my service rep., has been wonderful. He has been responsive to my texts and called me a couple of times to confirm my appointment and to reassure me that if I missed it for any reason, I just needed to let him know and he could reschedule for whenever I was available.

The repairs to the running board were performed in about an hour, far faster than I expected and the running board is fully operational and functioning as expected.

Nick, from Ram Cares, also called again on Wednesday, but I missed his call. I was unable to call him back since he was out of the office yesterday and today. I will call him Monday to thank him for checking in with me to make sure all my concerns were addressed.

Once again, thank you, Mark. I very much appreciate all of your personal attention in this matter.

Happy and Content Ram Owner…. (y)(y)

I picked up a 2020 LTD two weeks ago. Passenger Side running board intermittently deploys. When it fails it will usually come out approx a quarter of the way then return to the stowed position. Hopefully my dealer won’t try to blow me off.

Following this as I am having the same issue on a brand new 2020 Limited that I've had for only a few days. Passenger power running board works good 65-75% of the time, only comes put a few inches and immediately retracts when not working. No obstructions.
