Problems with 2019 Laramie... so far

Picked up a 2019 Laramie 4x4 which now has about 2k miles on it. Even though I love the truck and I think Ram did a good job with it, I have had a few issues and wanted everyone to be aware. If you are experiencing the same issues I would love to hear about it.

  1. When the truck is turned on and you fold in the power side mirrors; the drivers side mirror bangs against the glass and tries to correct itself, over and over. Practically the mirror is rotating too much.
    1. Took it in to the dealer. Dealer had it a whole week and couldn't fix the problem because they need to replace the whole drivers side mirror, yet the mirror isn't manufactured yet. (But every truck on the assembly line gets one put on??) AKA a bunch of BS from the dealer/manufacture in my opinion. A defect they can not even fix so just gave it back to me and told me to pretty much wait. Talked about pulling a mirror off another truck on the lot, yet we all know that didn't happen.
  2. Brakes squeak when breaking from around 40 mph. From day 1.
  3. Back seat USB ports did not work (dealer fixed when the truck was taken in for the mirror issue).
  4. Weird "cold start" noise after truck has sit over night. I live in Texas and its 100 degrees everyday, yet just sitting over night (7-9hrs) sometimes a "Clunk" noise when starting. Sounds like it comes from the middle of the truck, but hard to pin down the exact location. Happens about 80% of the time.
  5. Rear back up noise sensor "Beep" turned off and the button shows it is still remained off yet once you turn off and back on the truck the button still shows off yet it still beeps.

Im having the same issue with my mirror. They replaced a sensor in the door thinking that would fix it but no dice. They had to order a new mirror for me, which will be replaced this coming up Tuesday. Hopefully, that fixes the issue. I have the same issue in regards to the cold starting noise.

Hi Texas415 and marcd118,
we're very sorry to hear about this happening to your new trucks. Please send us a private message with your VIN and current mileage so we can have this documented and looked into for further handling.

Yes my brakes "Squeak" also along with my 8.4 alpine radio problems. However my mirror does not do that. Have not noticed and weird noise when starting it up.

I too have the random clunk noise on engine startup. It's only happened about half a dozen times total in my two weeks of ownership, but it sounds and feels destructive when it does. I haven't been able to pinpoint any consistent contributors or condition yet. My best guess so far is it's either a cat heat shield or something with the transmission.

If it’s a loud pop type noise after starting it’s probably the transmission park lock mechanism. You don’t use the park brake do you? If you don’t , try setting it with your foot on the brake before shutting it off and you probably won’t hear it again. It’s normal. There is a message I’m the center console like auto park lock enabled or something like that. It’s not like the old days with a shift cable and park park.

I was test driving a RAM earlier this week. I tried folding the power folding mirrors and DID notice that when folding it, it did hit the glass. It just touched it with a light thud and stopped - didn't go back and forth. However I found it odd that it was designed to not stop before it hit the window. Are you guys seeing this with your trucks too?

I don’t normally use the parking brake since I park on a flat pad. I’ll try setting it like you suggested and post if it helps. Thank you for the info.

Yes, my mirrors lightly tap the windows.

My power fold mirrors also touch my windows when they fold. I honestly never considered it a problem and I fold mine everyday.

My mirrors get really really close but I’ve never heard them tap the windows. My only complaint is poor mpg of 11.5/12, I haven’t taken a road trip yet, it’s all city with 10-15 min interstate stretches.

I am getting 15 mpg when driving in the city. On my 1200 mile road trip recently I got 18.4 to 20.2 mpg.

I really like my longhorn. I do though have a few issues as described.
1. My brakes squeak also when breaking at 40 mph.
2. My mirrors lightly touch the window when folding.
3. My weather map on uconnect only works part of the time.

I already had the truck in service three times. Also called FCA and opened a case but not sure what good that does. Never heard anything back.

Unfortunately for me, the parking brake makes no difference. Thankfully it doesn’t occur very often, I think. Until I figure out a consistent trigger, there’s almost no chance it will occur when a tech is checking for it.

I really Love the new truck, but the new truck is certainly having some teething pains. While I’m at it I’ll list all the other issues I have noticed in the first 1300 miles of ownership.
1. Both front seat covers were not attached to the front of the seat frame. Easy fix.
2. Intermittent Clunk on startup.
3. Clunk below drivers foot while turning over unleveled pavement.
4. While rolling through low speed corners, the truck slams into first gear violently jerking the truck. This only occurs if I almost stop before accelerating. There is some play in the rear end or transfer case that I’m sure isn’t helping.
5. Slight wine in the transfer case or front differential when in 4 auto.
6. Minor rattle with the drivers air conditioner vent.
7. Poor AC performance compared to my 2012 Ram 1500. I estimate about 85% capacity compared to my previous Ram. I have installed ceramic tint which helped, but it’s definitely a weaker system.
8. Passenger rear door makes a rattling sound when closing.
9. Occasional lifter rattle on startup.
10. Excessive wind noise from drivers window pillar seal area.

I plan to present all these issues to the dealership soon, however most of the real issues are so intermittent, I know the chances are slim it will act up for the tech. I’m hoping that those that have some of the same issues that occur more frequently will share their resolutions.

Thanks in advance!

My mirrors did the same thing where it would keep running after reaching the folded position. Dealer replaced both mirrors, don't let them tell you they can't get the parts because my dealer did.
