Price negotiated from MSRP

@sflindsey i second what Eldodroptop said. Give Carvana a try. Last summer when I was selling my previous Ram 1500, Carvana beat CarMax. The whole process went very smoothly.
Carvana is absolutely nuts right now. I made a deal January 2nd on a new ‘20 Fiat Spider ($32,585 MSRP) for My 82 year old Dad and his Wife (I know, crazy). The out the door price including Tax and all fees was $27,345. On a whim I submitted to Carvana last night for a bid, they came in at $29,422... I have NEVER even heard of a situation like this on a normal car. Super rare? Sure, they can appreciate. But not this. I checked the dealership where I made the deal in January and they still have ‘20 spiders in stock, for the same OTD price I worked in January. You could literally buy one and run it through Carvana and make a profit!

My 2016 Mazda 6 is just a couple hundred under what retail for it was two weeks ago. It had been losing 2-3 % a month since Nov.

Hey guys/gals

I've enjoyed going over this thread the past few weeks, lurking behind the scenes as I have been contemplating "pulling the trigger" so to say on a new 5th gen. My 2006, she's still running like a champ and still 'young' at only 188K, but I think it's time to put her out to the farm (donate to the American Legion). I bought a new to us, super low mileage 2017 Durango RT AWD at a smoking deal last May with all the bells and whistles and it's ruined me.

Right now I'm kind of working a few deals, two primarily. One I love as it has nearly everything I want - but is missing the 33 gallon tank. Thanks to the guys/gals on here I seen people are retrofitting the 33 gallon tank in place of the 26 gallon. So just a small fix is needed. Here with this dealer I have done some slight negotiation.

The other is a similar build with the exception of the Night package, it being not my first choice of color and again having a 26 gallon tank. I have yet to negotiate with this dealership only stopping in to get my toes wet and express interest a week or so ago.

I don't have to buy, but I would like to buy within the next three months. And with supply being the way it is - I think it may be the time to pull the trigger now before there is no supply... these trucks have been moving fast here in Arizona as just about every truck I fall in love with - is gone the day or the day before I call on it. Purchasing, I'm not opposed to financing, but I also don't mind paying out in full. This will be a business expense for my company I own/run. But, the cash is king mantra is kind of dead. So whether I take advantage of the 0% or rebates is something I'm still debating. It'd be nice to take advantage of the 0% interest so if I want to take my time paying it off, I can. But if I take advantage of the rebates, put say half down now and pay it off over the course of the next 9 months and save ~2K compared to the estimated final cost over time financed at 0%, that's something I definitely can get on board with as well. To be honest, ~$2k saved over 36, 48, etc months is really kind of inconsequential in terms of my finances. Just having the option of paying it off with no interest is nice. But then again, the thought of having a payment scares the life out of me as every vehicle, motorcycle and power sports toy I have bought, I pay in full or finance and pay within the year so I can include it on taxes.

First up, my first choice. 2021 Limited 4WD.

This dealer I've had some back and forth with and I've got some things nixed from the typical dealer add ons and feel like I can work on some others. He sent me two quotes one with 0% financing the other taking advantage of the rebates.

1) OTD no rebates (the theft reg fee is one of the things I have gotten tossed out so far in addition to others on the typical side sticker add-ons)
OTD - No rebates.png

2) OTD financing - but with rebates (same here, theft reg has been tossed out in addition to other sticker dealer addons)

My only complaints against this one are the lack of the 33 gallon tank (no biggie, retrofit), color (vinyl wrap) and the lack of the bed cover the Night Package adds. So I feel since they are roughly the same build, I should be able to get this about $4000 cheaper since it has no night package while the other does. The cover I'd get is ~$2k so the night package kind of makes sense in those regards (and would match our blacktop Durango amazingly!).

Anyways, in doing some research, I have found the following "Fair Values" for comparable builds and recent purchases:

I'm thinking if I can get the Black 1500 down to $60-61K before TTL (currently at $62963) that's reasonable. Or my second choice down to $57K before TTL (citing the lack of the $4k night package from my first choice) I would be okay, yeah? I have still yet to see what the 2nd options dealer add ons look like and really don't like the idea of having to do that all over again with another dealer. I also have not discussed any further incentives with either dealership such as me being a veteran, a full time student as well as a small business owner (yeah, don't know how I find the time either haha). But I'm thinking that would knock some off as well, $500 for the veteran discount as far as I can see.

I have tried looking at some of the discounts (Tread Lightly, Penfed(?)) and a few others but not sure if I can get them. I'm not trying to squeeze the dealership for each and every penny as a business owner, I know you're in business to make money - not charity. But I don't want to get raked over the coals either. So as long as I can find a good compromise to where they make some money, I get a good deal I can live with that. And that my friends is where I ask for your help.

I really, honestly do appreciate all your guys/gals feedback on my proposals to make at the dealerships. If you think I'm off base or these are good deals already, let me know. Again, thanks everyone I look forward to your feedback and personal costs on similar deals you all got.

Kind regards,
-AAA

Sorry if my answer doesn't really help. But for what it's worth. In my experience with AZ dealers especially Earnhardt. Anything you buy from them is a rip off. Being a AZ/IL resident, in Illinois I have 40+dealers while in good old phx I think there's what 10-12 dealers and none of them compete on price. And the kicker for me is I bought my truck in Louisiana cause I followed the money. As far a deals, anything above 20% off MSRP is what I look for. Right now with lack of inventory I'm not sure what's doable out there. If you haven't yet, read Silent Bobs post they're very informative on getting the best deal. He'd complied everything in a thread. Good luck.

Appreciate it - we've recently moved from the Midwest (Minnesota). So all the friendships we've established over the years with dealerships because our parent's parents went to such and such dealership because Barb on the corner has a nephew who works there is all kind of out the window. We're a fish out of water and I feel the same way with pretty much everything being a big rip off. When I was first stationed here back in 2003, I got took to the pound house really bad by a dealer buying my first car and that kind of put a sour taste in my mouth.

I'll review Silent Bob's post and hopefully can gain some insight there! Thanks for the advice!

Hello Folks, I just returned my Tundra this month. Now looking to new truck and Ram Rebel attract me and my wife so much. We like black color with black edition. It is so cool whatever exterior or interior. We are in long island,NY. Could you share any good deal or dealership? We can go to pick up out of state as long as price is good enough. Thanks
James, I'm on my third 1500. This time a Bighorn crew with night edition and level 2. Check with Julie Swarter at Bergey's in Souderton PA. Excellent online and delivery experience. Discussed price on Saturday and picked up on Monday delivered to the penny of quoted price. They inventory.
Good luck with your search

They have inventory, sorry missed a word

Vroom is usually better than both CarMax and Carvana.
Be careful with Vroom though. I’ve heard/read some unfavorable reviews. From what I’ve read, Vroom doesn’t provide payment until they’ve been able to inspect your vehicle at one of their facilities. Once your vehicle is picked up, It takes 2 to 3 business days to receive payment. Carvana will give you a check on the spot when they come to pick up your vehicle. @sflindsey

If you are not getting a special financing incentive from FCA they are usually not the best deal. Always get your financing preapproved with your lowest rate before entering the dealership. You need a number for them to beat.
I am aware, the 0% FCA financing was what drew me to the lot. F&I informed me I could take 0% or 8k off MSRP. I just do not like how they didn't even apply with FCA when they said they did.

Vroom is usually better than both CarMax and Carvana.

Carmax gave me over $1k more than Vroom or Carvana. Carmax also asks way less questions to get a quote and I know its almost assured you get the quoted price...not sure about the other two and how much they stick to the quoted sale price.

One should always check all three places though...pretty much assured it will be a better price than any dealer will give, by quite a bit.

I've gotta stop reading this thread. Just checked the value of my truck and Carmax just gave me an offer at what I paid (including taxes and tags).
I found there's no rhyme or reason between CarMax, Carvana or Vroom. Some are higher, some are lower.

The only problem with all three is they all make me drive 100 miles south if I want to sell my car. I'm outside of their coverage areas where I live. Considering the nearest theatre is 60 miles away, I'm not that mad.

Everyone qualifies for PenFed and Tread Lightly. Access Fund is $50 less than Tread Lightly. Use the link in my signature to find all the information.

Don't worry about the dealership. They make money on every deal. You are doing them a favor by buying from them. If you find the deal of the century, and get 30% off MSRP, that dealership is still making money or they wouldn't do it.

Think about it, if you financed, you could sell today and you would have only paid the monthly interest to use the truck from when you bought it!
You could consider it the cheapest car lease anyone ever had.

How to lose a potential customer - when someone inquires about the price of a truck, then when the number comes back too high and the customer tells the dealer this price is out of range (hoping to get a better deal), don’t tell the customer “shocking if you haven’t purchased a rig recently”....

😜
