Price negotiated from MSRP

Update to all. I ordered Sept 12th, and my truck arrived on the dealer lot in SW Ohio Oct 22nd. I am waiting for Nov to take delivery in hopes incentives improve. (not holding my breath) So all in all about 6 weeks from order to delivery in my case. I was shocked it when my salesman called and said it was on the lot. I was convinced he was mistaken and doubted it was actually there until I verified the VIN with my own eyes.

After MANY months of shopping around and deciding what I wanted and having COVID change which direction I was going to go several times, I placed my order for 2021 1500 Limited this past weekend. I shopped around a few local dealers and worked pricing with Criswell and Koons. I went with Performance Ram in Centerville Ohio as they ended up having the best pricing. I know it doesn't match the pre-covid deals, but I think it might be a good sign we are starting to head back in the right direction in Ram Truck market.

2021 Ram 1500 Limited
5.7 eTorque
Night Edition
Granite Crystal
Limited Level 1
Pano Sun Roof
Tech Group
Bed Utility Group
Anti-Spin Diff
33 Gal Fuel Tank
Trailer Brake Controller
Engine Block Heater

MSRP $73,000
Dealer Discount ($9,265) = $63,735 before rebates (~12.7% Off)
FCA Affiliate rewards ($500) + assuming current rebates will apply at delivery ($1,500) = $61,735 (~15.5% Off)

$61,735 + Doc Fee ($250) + TTL = ~$66,633 (~8.8% Off MSRP after TTL included)

If anyone is interested in getting the contact info for my salesman, please let me know and I can DM you.

Silly question: is it possible to transfer my build to another dealership? the dealership closer to me was able to match the same offer and instead of re-creating my build, I was hoping to just transfer it. Plus I already invested 2.5 weeks in waiting. the current status is D1

Did you leave a deposit with the 1st dealer?
If so, I would be curious to know if after the switch if the dealer returned your deposit.

I think I made have a deal, have a dealer I found with a 2020 silver rwd limited, 266miles, pano roof,22in wheels, body color bumpers, level one group, it does not have the 33gallon tank, msrp 64,500 , sale price 54900 with national incentives, also may still qualify for a few more incentives, is this a good deal.

Just my opinion from my efforts over the last few weeks looking at trucks typically in the ~$48K to ~$58k MSRP price.

In the price range I was looking at, if you can get about $10k off MSRP Window Sticker Total Price AFTER you have netted out dealer fees, then you are getting a good/great deal. Your MSRP is a bit higher, so you may be able to squeeze a few more discount $$'s out, I don't know for sure. But I think that if you are getting over $10k I think you have a great deal - how great depends on how perfect the truck is for you. For example, I wanted a factory trailer brake controller. If factory installed it costs $295 on the window sticker. But if you find a truck without it and expect to pay a dealer to install it you, will be paying around $700 for the same part and install (I got two quotes). If you are installing it yourself, then it nets out about the same as the parts are almost $300 I believe.

The best deal I found (which is now sold btw), wasn't the exterior or interior color that I wanted, didn't have the trailer brake controller, the 3.92, the protection group (skid plates), the Premium lighting. I weighed it out. I would have had a total of about $3500 better deal on paper in discounts. I could have put aftermarket skid plates, installed the factory brake controller which would have eaten into those savings substantially. Then I would have a truck in non preferred colors inside and out, not have the premium lighting that I wanted and most importantly no 3.92. So I decided against the 'best deal on paper' and went with the 'best deal on the truck that I wanted'.

Also, these trucks are selling. The 2020's where you can get about $10k off MSRP are disappearing fast from what I can see. Maybe its different at the $60k+ MSRP range that you are looking at, but at the range I was looking at, people are grabbing them up. Three of the ones I was considering had been sold over the last four days. Four counting the one I bought.

This may be the fastest production schedule i have heard of for the 2021 model.

When I was talking to the dealer they told me current lead time 4 to 6 weeks, I thought it was crazy as well
I checked on my build and was quoted 7 to 9 weeks from order....i got a vin and parts on order status....have not been able to confirm this but i had one dealer tell me if i ordered the night edition there was a wait on parts and dont expect till jan....said he had one on order for himself and thats what he knew....guess time will tell

Yea I think that’s what they did. It’s not the exact build I wanted but it being a 2020 i was hoping for a better deal. I can build the night edition that I want for about the same msrp from Koons and depending on incentives at the time of delivery it would be in the same ballpark I would think. I can’t find a deal on night edition anywhere in billet silver
I ran into the same thing back in June. I just ordered the truck I wanted from Criswell (also check Koons). It was super easy, truck as I want it, and the price was still better than anything I could find in inventory that wasn't exactly what I wanted anyway.

I ordered a Laramie with Night Edition on 9/10. Received build sheet on 10/20, window sticker on 10/23 and checked today and it is officially "in transit" to dealer. So at least "now" they are still on the 7-8 week schedule (assuming it does not sit at a railyard).

Lakeland Ram in FL is the cheapest atm with 7% discount off invoice plus rebates/incentives.

This seems like a good deal considering the times, I paid $54,7 out the door on a $64,530 limited thats sounds like its equipped the same. They were firm at the price of $55,700 then on a Thursday (3rd week of July) told me they could use coupons and get me OTD for 54,7 if the deal was done before CoB that Saturday.
Someone else got a good deal on a Limited about a month ago, 53 ish IIRC. Thats not a bad deal, there may be another $1,000 in it for you but not much

Limiteds are plentiful, Laramie not so. Betting the 20 Limited’s will be on the lots months into the 21 year

If you're able/willing to do a fly-and-drive, you can get 6% off of invoice (or 6.5% if you qualify for Affiliates Rewards) on a factory order through Koons in northern Virginia.
Is this something that I have to aggressively negotiate? I am wondering how to best approach it with the sales rep at Koons knowing this info. Here on Long Island, I haven't had 1 dealer even try to come close to this type of offer on a 2021 factory build.

No negotiation needed. Just email Craig ([email protected]) with your config and street address. He'll quote you at 6% below invoice and give you an estimate of TTL.

Going to put a deposit down on a build tomorrow. Laramie night edition. The msrp is 62K and it’s discounted to 53,475. $500 doc fee plus tax and tags. Then any available rebates including true car and tread lightly. Seems the best I can come across. Does that sound good? This threads helped a ton thanks

got a quote for a 2021 Laramie Mega Cab Night Edition - MSRP $63.1K, discounted 7% down to $58.7K, from Long Island, same as your when it arrives with any other rebates. Looks like your price is 4K lower, would like to get the same offer.

thanks

There two local vendors in this forum..criswell and koons.....they bothnoffer agressive pricing to forum members..you wont find many dealers to match them before rebates and dealer discount...if you have affiliate rewards you can get little better on koons. Up to 6.5 percent under dealer invoice... get your best price from them and if local dealers wont match then take a drive south.....i ordered from koons after trying my local dealers and they wouldnt match or come close...so im driving south... you gotta put some knowledge and effort to get a good price..sometimes you hut a dealer on the right day and it will fall in your lap...others you have to walk from several dealers over several weeks to find it...i could have had a 2020 laramie for close to what im paying for my 2021 with more options.....i would have been pissed at myself if i bought it then found this forum after.

Ok awesome, thank you for the insight
NP. If you have an FCA affiliate discount (via Tread Lightly or work) he can take an additional 0.5% off FWP, and he'll include any rebates available given at time of delivery. I'm choosing to apply a $1000 PenFed rebate at delivery though, which apparently doesn't stack with affiliate? Then there's a $250 BonusDrive rebate you can claim as well after delivery.
Also be aware that you'll need to either pickup the vehicle at Koons or independently arrange for it to be transported to Long Island. Your drive is far shorter than mine though (I'm in Houston) :)

Nice - thanks for all the info. I do have the affiliate discount via Tread Lightly and hit the 30 day waiting period on Nov. 4th.
Im definitely lucky my drive isn't too far all things considered. Not Houston far! It's all good when it's to pick up a new truck, though. It sure seems to be worth it. I have a 2008 Altima that Ill trade in, likely for peanuts, but that will at least get me down there to pick it up!
