PARK SENSE/SERVICE SHIFTER CODES

I see you're recent, I just posted this morning the fix that worked for me: I had almost identical issue, got so bad this week that truck (2019 Rebel, 5. 7) would put itself in park. Anyway, I opened up plastic on driver side wall under dash and reseated Park Sense Module wires and both problems are fixed. Idea came from this thread, pg2 with Ground wire issue, apparently just loosened up. Take our your floor mat, pull the plastic wall under dash towards you to pop out 2 clips, Monitor is box mounted to wall, pull those wire plugs and reseat, or maybe start with just pushing plugs in, good luck
there are three different plugs that go to that module. Is there a specific one or did you reset every wire on all three plugs?

New to the forum, my fix may not be for everyone but here is what has been the fix for me (as of now).

I started getting park sense unavailable which then progressed to service shifter, then progressed to getting both notices along with a check engine light. Downloaded a U001 which is a High Speed CAN Communication Bus error.

Replaced my Park Assist Module, ordered one directly through MOPAR and didn’t require a reprogram. But the problem stayed the same.
I checked the RF Module behind my back seat with no defect, checked all my fuses, checked all grounds running along the left side of the truck, had battery tested, checked alternator output, and could find nothing that would cause it to happen.

Two days ago I had the errors pop up, then decided to use it to my advantage and feel for harnesses that may cause it to go in and out. Pull my light assembly panel left of the steering wheel and grabbed the wires going to the star connector that’s mounted on the drivers side. I was able to get the service shifter to come on when moving the wires to the star connector.

I then bought a new star connector (Can Bus Connector) PN:68321746AA paid $86. Swapped it out and have not had the errors come back yet. I am an aircraft mechanic but this part was extremely easy to replace and can save hundreds rather than taking it to a dealership.

I will post an update if the errors come back, but for now everything is good!

Sounds like the problem I'm having as well. Only seems to occur when it's hot out (around 90F). Starts and drives fine, then Park Sense error pops up, immediately followed by Service Airbag System, then Stop/Start Unavailable Service Stop/Start System. The latter two have their own icons light up in the cluster as well. Bringing it in at the end of the month (first appointment I could get with a technician). Fingers crossed they figure out where the gremlin is. My fear is there's no 'memory' of the error in the computer, and if they don't see it themselves, they'll say there's nothing they can do. I have photos of the errors, and will be showing them links to this forum. Hoping that's enough evidence to dig deeper.
Brought mine in for service and described the issue. Here's the diagnosis: "Code P1495 found in the PCM for an open at the left front seat belt switch. After replacing the seat belt switch the light on the dash goes away with the belt attached and the start stop function works properly."

This fixed the problem for me.

I have a similar issue.

  • Service Shifter Message
  • Front and Rear Parking Sensors Temporary Disabled Message
  • When at a stop truck will shift between 1st and 3rd on its own
  • When accelerating it will sometimes fail to shift to a higher gear if the previous bullet points have happened
Have it at the Ram dealership for the 3rd time and they think it is the Star Connector behind the lights knob having an open circuit. They are going to replace so fingers crossed.

Edit: Confirmed that was the issue. Same as the guy above the dealership replaced star connector (Can Bus Connector) PN:68321746AA and I have not seen any problem since.

Ive had that replaced at one point I’m pretty sure

I had the problem when I bought my 19 used. The dealership replaced the Parksense module and when I went to pick it up the error message came back on before I could back out of the parking space at the dealership. The electrician found a bad ground wire in the wiring harness. They fixed the ground wire and I have not had any issues after the ground wire fix. This fixed my Parksense and Service Shifter error message.
Hey there! I'm having service shifter every minute because its summer, don't know why on winter I Almost don't get this message, please if anyone had this issue fixed please let me know. my truck is a Rebel 2019. thank you.

Just got this fixed yesterday. Same deal, star connector. Wish I had seen this before the labor they put in trying to find the issue. Wiggle test on the connecter throwing alarms is how they found it was a problem.

I speak for a growing number of 2019 and up 5th Gen RAM 1500 owners. We are having serious electrical issues with the "PARK SENSE & SERVICE SHIFTER" systems. The Park Sense shuts off without warning, then turns back on along with a SERVICE SHIFTER message (and check engine light) appearing on the Dashboard Message Screen. There are no codes being held in memory, but yet our trucks continue daily to have these issues. They continue to shut off the PARK SENSE and or lock the truck into PARK...........WE NEED RAM TO GET AN AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRICAL DETECTIVE, NOW!!!!!!!....................So far I've have had to deal with the INADEQUATE, IMPROPERLY TRAINED employees, that cant find their butts with a map and both hands!...All RAM knows how to do is BREAK YOUR BANK ACCOUNT by throwing unneeded parts at your vehicle....I have spoken with numerous 5th Gen Ram 1500 owners recently, that are having this same ongoing electrical system issue, and the only thing any of us are getting out of RAM, is "WE DON'T KNOW WHATS WRONG, BUT KEEP GIVING US YOUR MONEY!"
Im in the same boat

I just started having this issues. Has anyone found the real issue

How much was it to
Have it fixed?

How much did it cost to get yours fixed

In the exact same boat as everyone here.

It has slammed it into park multiple times after very hot days or driving it even under 80 degree for longer timeframes. It has also shifted it automatically into neutral while turning at 5mph. Almost got hit from oncoming traffic and just barley made it into a parking lot.

Why this hasn’t gotten recalled is beyond me.

*Update here*

I had problems with the “service shifter” , “park sense temporarily unavailable” and a few others of it auto shifting into park and auto shifting into neutral at low speeds. This would happen during hot weather. The problem looks to be the replacement of the Star Connector part (central point of the module).

There was a re-call and mine was actually recalled, but on the recall it says “ABS” comm problem. So I will keep everyone updated on if this recall fixes the alarms on the dash.

2024 Ram Power Wagon: After adjusting my tire size with ALFA OBD a couple of weeks ago, today my front park sensor is turning off on its own after driving for a few minutes and the sensor switch shows off and wont turn on. The message it shows when turning off says "Front Park Sense Unavailable." When I click the switch to turn it back on, a message shows up on my dash saying Wiper Sensor. Not sure if this is related to the tire size change using ALFA. The dealer did have to take off my bumper about 4 weeks ago to replace a DTR light, but everything was fine after that. The dealer also had to replace my battery three weeks ago and after that is when I adjusted the tire size with ALFA.

Today when I shut off the truck and turn it back on and drive, the sensor seems to be active for about 5-10 minutes then it shuts off on it's own again. Also, my sensors are clean. Alfa shows no codes for BCM or ABS.

This evening the "Front Park Sense Unavailable" message came on briefly then it started working again.

Sounds like I need to have them replace the star connector....correct?

It is the Star connector that needs to get replaced. An aircraft mechanic on here said that's what he traced it to be I printed this whole thing took it the dealership after the 5th visit since Oct 2023. They changed it on Thursday and so far so good

My 2019 Dodge Ram Limited started malfunctioning, causing me to wreck when the shifter unexpectedly went into park while I was driving. The brakes locked up, making the truck slide, and by the time it switched back, I was already sliding off the road. (It had just rained and the roads were wet.)

I contacted the dealership about the issue four times prior to the accident. The body shop repaired the truck, but the shifter problem persists. The dealership claims the issue stemmed from the wreck, despite my explanation that it caused the wreck. They are currently attempting to fix it, but they still haven't identified the root cause.

I switched dealerships because the first one seemed incompetent. I'm hopeful that the current dealership's technicians will be able to solve the problem. Fingers crossed.

Did the can buss need to be flashed or was it good to go out of the box?

Does anyone think that the bypass cable I have plugged in to use ALFA OBD could cause this problem?
