Hi Wasney17,I was dealing with this issue for 2 years!!!
New battery
New shifter knob
Programming nothing worked finally I took it to a 3rd ram dealer and they were really cool explained the problem to them and instantly they told me it’s probably the green star connector on driver side I took it there part was 60 bucks they charged me 250 total and finally my ram is alive no issues any more no service shifter and no park break sensors temporally unavailable so it’s been 5 weeks no lights 1st time in 2 years if this helps anyone!
Can confirm this worked for me as well. I have a 2019 Laramie 2wd with 70k miles. Started getting the front and rear park sense errors, which escalated to getting the ‘service shifter’ message, which then escalated to a bunch of dinging and throwing the check engine light. This all happened over a period of about 2 weeks. I replaced that exact part PN:68321746AA (it took me about 10 minutes) and I’ve driven the truck about 2k miles with no issues.New to the forum, my fix may not be for everyone but here is what has been the fix for me (as of now).
I started getting park sense unavailable which then progressed to service shifter, then progressed to getting both notices along with a check engine light. Downloaded a U001 which is a High Speed CAN Communication Bus error.
Replaced my Park Assist Module, ordered one directly through MOPAR and didn’t require a reprogram. But the problem stayed the same.
I checked the RF Module behind my back seat with no defect, checked all my fuses, checked all grounds running along the left side of the truck, had battery tested, checked alternator output, and could find nothing that would cause it to happen.
Two days ago I had the errors pop up, then decided to use it to my advantage and feel for harnesses that may cause it to go in and out. Pull my light assembly panel left of the steering wheel and grabbed the wires going to the star connector that’s mounted on the drivers side. I was able to get the service shifter to come on when moving the wires to the star connector.
I then bought a new star connector (Can Bus Connector) PN:68321746AA paid $86. Swapped it out and have not had the errors come back yet. I am an aircraft mechanic but this part was extremely easy to replace and can save hundreds rather than taking it to a dealership.
I will post an update if the errors come back, but for now everything is good!
My 2016 1500 is doing the exact same thing. Has anyone experienced it with models older than 2019? It just started about two weeks ago. Have had the ABS warning on my dash for a year and driving fine, but was told that part was back ordered. Cannot find one.It is the Star connector that needs to get replaced. An aircraft mechanic on here said that's what he traced it to be I printed this whole thing took it the dealership after the 5th visit since Oct 2023. They changed it on Thursday and so far so good
Hey everyone, so I just got a ‘19 ram lone star 5.7 almost two weeks ago. In the process of purchasing it I found the most recent recall 75B that pertains to a bug in the abs software that disables the electronics in 19’ & ‘21-‘24 1500 models. I researched and found that stelantis is saying it will just be a “software update” to remedy the problem so I continued with buying it. Before I took it home the dealer I got it from took it to our local dodge dealer and had the battery replaced because it wouldn’t start one day for them before I got it. I get the truck and take it to wash it, (that’ll be important later)So about 3 days after bringing it home it finally happened, went out to start it and no power. Push to start would not even come out of off. I disconnected the neg cable and waited about 30 min, connected and still nothing. When I was sitting there researching I found that these years and a few others have problems with the back window leaking and water getting into the rf hub. While I’m sitting there reading, bam, full power and truck starts no messages nothing. Oh and I was sitting in back seat close to the rf hub when it came on randomly so that is the first thing that led me to believe it was the rf hub. Okay so the second time it happened I had just used my wipers just cleaning the windows, then I about 10 min later I get the service ESC message and every other light come on and finally it dies at a major intersection. So I start trouble shooting, dc neg again, wait. Try. Nothing. After doing that a couple times I hooked it up, went to the back where the rf hub is and gave it a few small taps with the key fob and bam , full power truck starts. So that night I pull all the back seats out and take a look behind everything and sure enough, water marks everywhere. All over the rf hub and everything. I then follow the water marks up and come to find two cracks on either side of the window frame on the outside. All this stuff to me so far is no big deal really because I am more mechanically inclined then the next person with a full resume of shops under my belt so small fixes like this didn’t deter me from the truck, just a side note. Anyways rf hub story short I rtv all the possible places could enter both inside and outside the back seat and window and plastic wrapped the rf hub for good measure. Called dodge explained them that and have an appointment on Monday to have that looked at and the software update for the abs. I thought I figured it out there… come today. Im driving to the pharmacy to pick up meds, on the way use my wipers for probably about 5 secs, just cleaning them. 2 min later I pull into the store, in the drive thru idling and service shifter, tpms, service Ecs light, everything came on and the truck just died. Embarrassing af because for the second time it died in a spot with a line behind me, oh well tho. Anyways I start to trouble shoot, usual stuff. Only this time it’s not coming on with the usual stuff, tapping rf hub, waiting, etc. so I remember reading about star connections on the driver side kick panel, I got to thinking what if water is running down some how into there and shorting out the connection because for the second time it only happened after using my wipers. So I reach down there wiggle and push some wires in and then bam, here an arcing sound then the truck comes on full power and starts right up. Only this time I have the service power steering message on which is the first time for that. Im going take a look at everything down there now and see if anything is out of the ordinary but now with this I’m thinking it’s just the star connector and not the rf hub, despite the Water leaks or a mix of both, I know some people have had good luck with replacing one or the other and it fixing the problem. This is my first hemi and damn do I love this truck, newest one Ive ever had so I’m praying it’s one of these. Just thought I’d share my experiences so far also. Thanks yall
Just did that myself and it worked, no issuesCan anyone post a picture of where the part goes. I’ve had the drivers side panel off and reset all the connectors at the module
So familiar with the area. About to order the part hoping it’s obvious when it gets here.
Thanks

This may only be a temporary fix to get you out of a jam like I was in this afternoon. But the 10 mm wrench wll go with me everywhere I go from now on. May keep the tow truck away. I saw one of these posts where this caused a wreck. Also there are 3 posts on page 3 where a part was replaced behind the the headlight switch that cured the problem. They even included the part number to buy. Thanks for posting your solution.Hello everyone, I just had this happen to my 2020 Ram 2500 this afternoon in my back alley, hooked up to my cargo trailer.
I was blocking the back alley with 4 way flashers on for maybe 2-3 hours. My battery was too weak to start the truck up. Will need a new battery. But the boost with the battery pack got me going. And that's when the service shifter message showed up.
I ended up on this forum, just to see that there was no solution. My son was here with me and he mentioned something that a friend told him that makes absolutely no sense. I got my truck to move and it's parked in front of my house now with no issues.
Are you ready for this?
- shut down the engine
- disconnect the negative battery cable with a 10 mm wrench
- using the 10 mm wrench, short out the negative cable to the positive cable which is still connected to the positive post of the battery. I held it for like 10 seconds. (Apparently, this is a Dodge trick to reset issues)
- reconnect negative cable to battery
- start truck
- drive away
