Not sure if I have a legitimate air conditioning issue...

Someone had mentioned this in a post, but it was a few pages in and not easily findable, so my question is. This is my first crew cab, and first dark colored vehicle. It lives in the sun while I'm at work and the AC has really been underwhelming. Now, it has been sunny and 92 degrees, but I just drove it for 15 minutes in city and on the highway and I cannot get it to feel "cool" in the cab. I really am not the kind to complain about much, but I have a 9 month old and my wife has been pretty particular on keeping him alive and im guessing hard boiling him is also out of the question. So is this something that just goes hand in hand with have a bigger, dark colored vehicle (my gut says no with the amount of black escalades/denalis that are in this town) and additionally, is this an issue that other 19' owners are having (ie. RamCares should pass up the food chain to have someone check the AC process on the assembly line?). Any input would help, I only hesitate to bring it in because my dealer is 90 minutes away...so I'll be bringing it to a dealer that did not win my business locally. Cheers

A bigger cab and darker exterior/interior require more time to cool off. Just makes sense but a modern auto should be blowing quite cold at the vent within a minute or two, especially if the truck is moving. If you are not getting nice cold air from the vents after 2-3 minutes while driving you definitely have a problem. Most probably low freon on a new truck.

Something I find with my 2016 is that the A/C seems to work better when I take the system out of auto mode, and choose the settings myself. Might be worth a shot if you haven't done that yet.

My feelings as well. A very simple fix (and appreciate the tip Jared! Tried setting it to AC manually out of desperation lol) But just wanted to bring it to light since I had seen a few posts on it. I will take it in Monday or so and report back. Hopefully they'll make it a pretty quick process. Will keep everyone updated!

Definitely. Keep us updated how it goes, hopefully they get it sorted out for you. I believe one members truck was found to be low on refrigerant.

I'm assuming you have the roof or rear window cracked to allow some hot air out? It makes a big difference when I do that.

Yikes! Negative, once im inside im so mad at the outside it hasn't occurred to me. I will definitely slide the rear window open tomorrow and give that a shot. Appreciate the idea!

You'll notice a lot more air coming out of the vents as soon as you do.

I always open my rear slider and the front windows to let the hot air out for a couple minutes. Turn the AC on recirc(max AC) and let it go about a minute or so on medium speed then roll up all the windows. I let mine recirc for about 10 minutes then turn it to normal AC and adjust fan speed accordingly. I do have a 2014 but will do this with my new one too. Maybe doing it for heat as us Canadians(me) can't order a 2019 Rebel with E-torque or Ramboxes yet:( so won't see it til November.

As @firecadet613 says crack that roof ( heat rises ) and it will exit more quickly. Try keeping the shade part partially closed so you're not fighting the sun. Also, don't know if your last vehicle had leather seats but they can take longer to cool down. Does your truck come with the perforated climate cooled/heated seats?

I missed that service that appointment because of an ear ache on he little one. But....the car blows penty cold air now. Not sure if it's because I have 600 miles on it now, but I also hadn't been putting it on "max ac". The climate, 99% of it can be controlled by hard buttons on the sides of the radio. I am coming from a 2015 Overland uconnect system where I rarely if ever, clicked on the climate section outside of what auto climate could do. Well a few days ago (I had just been turning fan all the way up and temp all the way down) I went into the climate section and found a max AC button. I dont know if this does anything more than high fan and coldest tempo but, like clockwork I was getting super cold air in the cabin. It is an absolute non issue now. Embarrassed I didn't click farther into the climate settings to press the max AC button, but I thought I had been doing that in a round about way.

Good to hear. I think people are being a little over critical of the car because it’s not blowing Antarctic like temperatures. Mine gets plenty cold but it’s does take a few minutes at times depending on the outside temp and it’s not the coldest I’ve ever had. It’s a HUGE cabin though and takes a little time.

I've got just under 600 miles on mine and have the 8.4" NAV display. Plenty cold on auto. I keep my house at 69 but the truck is at 71 or 72.

I’m roughly 200 miles into ownership and I find the air to be on the weaker side even on Max AC it takes a while to cool the cabin down. My 2016 Ram would blow colder air upon ignition I feel as if it takes a good while for this cabin to cool down. I do have a sunroof now so might be a cause to temperatures being warmer to begin with.

Another issue is I live on the face of the sun in Miami lol time will tell...

I agree, I feel it takes a little longer to get cold. I'm at 400 miles, ok one other thing I have noticed is that what ever smell is out side, I smell it inside, weather it be fresh cut grass, or the car in front of me with poor emissions, or even a big rig exhaust.. I will look into this one with a dealer visit

That's always happened with every vehicle I've owned unless it's been set to recirculate...

If you end up going into the dealer to get this inspected, let us know. Our team is available via direct message and would be happy to help.

I believe unless you have the recirculate mode on, it is by design pulling air from the outside.

This happened to me, that max AC button makes a difference for sure. I felt like a dummy when I realized the button on the Uconnect existed. I think most of my AC woes now are just because it is just hot as hell outside.
