New 2020 Ram Engine or exhaust ping/noise

My apologies, was not going to comment here again but... that is so wrong at so many levels. You are worth what YOU can pay back. NO ONE owes you or me a jack ****.
I believe I am working on getting sent to the basement to cool off :(

I have the exact same signs sound as you describe on my 2020. Is your Eco light on when this happens? Mine does it when MDS is active under slight load. Goes away once mds disengages.
Eco light not on. Not sure how to turn off mds. But a tank of 89 and pinging is gone!!!

Just purchased a 2020 Ram 1500- love it. Technically it was used because it had 4900 miles on it. I've noticed, as best as i can describe a ping/chirp/fluttter/rattling sound on acceleration at low speed. Sounds like its coming from passenger side. I've only had the truck for about a month, and just noticed it this week. It sound like an old engine with 200,000 miles on it! I read a little bit and saw info on 89 fuel, i'll try that- I've been using 87. Troubling thing is I called 2 dealers, neither of them are the one I purchased it from , because they are an hour away, but both gave what seemed like a canned response "that's how Hemi's are" Not what I wanted to hear!!!! But the noise is driving me nuts. Can't tell if its coming from motor or exhaust. Thoughts.

There you go. Could be a variety of variables that caused your truck to ping on 87, but in your particular situation it's fixed with 89 octane.

You can only turn off MDS by either setting the gear limiter (set to 8 to access all gears but disable MDS) or activating tow/haul mode. However if the light is not on (assuming you turned it on in your Uconnect options, its off by default), than it is not active during those times.

The pinging is gone with the 89, but I still notice a ticking/airy type of sound under acceleration on low speed - under 40 mph. If I jump on it I don't hear it. Plus if it's in park and I step on the gas, it doesn't do it. I don't know if this is just a characteristic of HEMI's

Well, sounds jut like it did before using the 89, I even went up to 93, and same sound is back. Not sure how to described it- airy/whistle/rattling/. Sounds like an old truck. Very disappointing. Feel like I wasted a small fortune buying this. Now I have a 2020 with 6000 miles on it and I'm going to have to start dealing with service departments. That's why I sold my 2011 F150, and it sounded and ran better than this thing. 😡

I've had the same issue. 89 helps but does eliminate it. Moderate driving, but def a ping when under slight acceleration. Love the engine performance otherwise. Octane booster additive clears it up entirely, but is not feasible for long-term. Disappointed as this is an excellent vehicle. I've had Fords...last one F150 v6 Eco, but got bored. They never pinged. Dealer checked and said there are no codes. Was suggested that I trade it to get rid of issue. Def want to keep and will press on to get it resolved. Truck has 11K...2021 Ram 5.7 Hemi eTorque.

That shouldn't be happening, I don't get a ping even with 87, you shouldn't be getting it with 89. Though most people state light pining from time to time is fine.

Have you tried Costco 91? It's usually cheaper than most stations 87 and would clear up your problem. Though honestly there shouldn't be an issue in the first place. I would also consider speaking with another dealer to see if they have another alternative.

hi all! i read in the manual "The manufacturer recommends the use of a 95 RON for optimum performance." I'm use it, but have a same problem, like a topic starter. 5.7 hemi etorque 2020

This is from the owners manual, maybe I read it wrong.
This engine is designed to meet all emissions regulations and provide satisfactory fuel economy and performance when using high-quality unleaded gasoline having an octane range of 87 to 89 as specified by the (R+M)/2 method. The use of 89 octane “Plus” gasoline is recommended for optimum performance and fuel economy. While operating on gasoline with an octane number of 87, hearing a light knocking sound from the engine is not a cause for concern. However, if the engine is heard making a heavy knocking sound, see your dealer immediately. Use of gasoline with an octane number lower than 87 can cause engine failure and may void or not be covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
