The two sides of my MFT are not flush at the top when closed. The 60% side is slightly lower where the two sides meet than the 40% side. As a result, it has be closed hard get it to latch securely. See the following video:

Dealer says that all other trucks with the MFT they have seen are the same way - that there is no adjustment for this issue and there is nothing they can do. Essentially, I was told nicely to just live with it. I have a hard time believing that this is the norm for a vehicle at this price point.

Curious if it is just me, or if others with the MFT have this problem as well.

Allo!
Mine is even but my latch sensors don't always see the gate as closed. We (them, dealer) are taking steps to address. Right now I'm just slamming it and double checking. It's not end of world but it does throw lights on the dash, and more important you have to open it the way you closed it (hor or vert) as it won't release the other way until the latches say they are closed.

Just curious, does anyone know why on Ram's Build & Price website, as soon as you tick the box for two-tone paint, it deletes the Multifunction Tailgate? You folks that actually own MFT's, can you see any reason that the two-tone paint would preclude the MFT option?
Thanks.

Functionally, I don’t see any reason why the two-tone would affect the MFT.

This is how mine is aligned when the doors are closed. I suppose I’ll just keep slamming it shut until something breaks.

Mind align correctly. I just have one cable that is longer than the other when the tailgate is functioning in the traditional tailgate mode. Supposed replacements are on order.

Just bought a 2020 Limited with MFT and mine is misaligned the same way. Both doors need to be slammed excessively hard to get fully closed. Anybody find a solution yet?

No solution here. Dealer dismissed the issue and doesn't seem to want to look at it again. I just slam it now. Maybe it'll become a bigger issue down the road. Maybe not. If it does, I'm sure I'll be told it's my fault because I was closing it too hard.

Hi Steven & Creighton,

I am very sorry to hear that you both are experiencing this.

Creighton - if you would be interested in getting a second opinion from a different local dealer, please know that I would be happy to connect you with a case specialist who can work alongside your dealer to explore all potential solutions for this concern.

Steven - Please let me know if you decide to address this with your dealer. I would be more than happy to escalate a case for you to get you connected with a case specialist as well for further assistance.

Our team is always just a PM away.

I had the same problem and it's been driving me crazy. Been putting off going to the dealership out of sheer laziness. Finally decided to try to fix it myself and it couldn't have been simpler. On the inside of the small (right side) door, right in the center, is a guide attached with two 10mm bolts. That guide is adjustable. Loosen those two bolts and adjust the guide height. It took me 5 or 6 tries to get it perfect, but it's perfect now and I feel so much better. Hope this helps.

That's great info, thank you for sharing it. Will you take a photo of the guide you were able to adjust and post it here? I'm sure you would receive a lot of gratitude from the several 5thgenram posters who have misaligned MFTs.
.
I worked one at a Ram booth at an expo show the other day, it was perfectly aligned and operated smoothly. Of course Ram factory employees were there at the show, so it stands to reason that the display units worked perfectly.

I should have done that earlier. The guide is in the center of the photo. It's just above the handle that opens the small door. It's not obvious by looking at it that it's adjustable, but it is. I believe this is the actual fix, and not just "something that works", given there are so many people with the same problem. That guide probably gets slapped on there pretty often with no attention paid to it's height position and then sent out to the dealer lot.

Just wanted to give some people here some tips to help out adjusting ...just got a 2020 bighorn with the multifunction tailgate and didn’t like how it shut and of course the salesmen just told me they all do that ...I didn’t agree but knew it could be better ...ran across this post and proceeded to adjust the guide noticed a lot of trial and error found the easiest way to do this so here we go

first to start open both “doors” of the gate pick up on the bottom edge of the doors and see if there is movement between the main latch for the normal tailgate if there is then close and open your tailgate in the normal position and adjust the strikers for little to no movement ( you’ll know what’s too much or too little just by feel )
Once you get that all set then proceed to adjusting the alignment guide the fastest way to get this perfect is too loosen the 10mm bolts just enough to hold the guide into place but not too loose where it can’t hold its own place ...once you get that just close the “door” multiple times and the guide will adjust it self and your good to torque down the bolts
Also just want to add do this at your own risk if this feels to involved to you then you probably shouldn’t mess with it

Not sure I am exactly following the part I edited above?

It's just like color options with the night editions. Evidently two paint combinations will not allow the MFT to function properly. I think FCA gets confused easily and wants to limit choices so they are less likely to build the wrong vehicle, that the purchaser wont pay for. Any paint should be available with any option. Unfortunately should and is are two different things.
