Until Trip B is reset, it should match Trip A as both should be reading MPG since new.
I reset trip A every time I top off the tank. I will reset Trip B when performing oil changes. They should not be the same.

Maybe one of you can help with this estimation. What if we said that the 3.92 gearing enabled MDS to be active 25% more often (or insert your number there.) How would that impact the MPG difference between 3.92 and 3.21? Seems to me this factor would make them closer than we're discussing because we're not taking the more "eager" 3.92 MDS into account.
Obviously this number will vary based on where you live but in flatter roads I think it would come into play.

What we need to more accurately determine this are the parameters of when MDS engages. I've never seen technical documents on this, just hearsay. I do agree there may be unrealized mpg benefits to the 3.92 depending upon your configuration and environment.

Actually, last I heard/read that EVIC only trails the last 300 Miles; not the life of the truck. At least for the 4th gens it was that way.

Agreed. They shouldn’t be the same. BTW, I use A for oil change intervals and B for each fill or trips I need to track mileage.

According to the owners manual, the Trip A or Trip B information will display the following:
• Distance
• Average Fuel Economy
• Elapsed Time

On my recent 400 trip, I didn’t experience any evidence that only the last 300 miles of fuel economy was tracked. I’m open to learning if that’s wrong.

Back to MPG

Just complete a 600 roundtrip, mostly Highway. Including 20 miles of stop and go traffic hell on the 5 freeway through Los Angeles this afternoon.

And with my Rebel 5.7 etorque the trip mpg average was ........18.7 mpg

I'd be interested to hear from owners who have the ORG with 3.92 vs 3.21 on a standard truck. I read through this thread and really could not concretely determine if the 3.92 gets lower average mpg than the 3.21.

I've got the truck ordered that I have listed in my signaywith a 3.92. I don't know what to expect...

I've now averaged 16.7mpg with 90% city driving. I believe the eTorque helps but I strongly believe that your right foot is the big difference.
I was very light on the throttle during the first tank and a half and have seen it drop since then as I've been playing around with it.
I also think eTorque has been training me not to punch it off the line while it's restarting the engine.

I've got a few road trips coming up and looking forward to seeing what she'll do on the highway.

I’m well aware of the variables. My f150 had 3.55 gears and Nitto g2 tires. Same time of the year, both crew cabs. Obviously the Ford was lighter as the Rams are absolute pigs compared to Ford and GM. My Ram has the 3.21 gears and stock highway tires. My Ram has just under 4K miles on it.

Your posts have me wondering. If you knew from the start that "Rams are absolute pigs," why were you thinking that a heaver truck with a larger engine would give you comparable fuel mileage to your now departed F150?

Dusty

Obviously this number will vary based on where you live but in flatter roads I think it would come into play.

On early 4th gens, MDS cuts out a 1100 RPM as the vehicle de-accelerates, and will not engage until 1300 RPM at 10% load momentum. I am not sure if the software affecting this was changed in later 4th gen years.

I've owned two 4th gens (2010 & 2014). Of course, in 2010 there was only the 545RFE 5-6 speed, and my 2014 had the 8HP70 8-speed. Both had the 3.92 diff. From my experience I could be in top gear at 40-41 MPH in both and trigger the MDS mode at speeds lower than my 2019 with the 3.21 axle. This '19 doesn't like to shift into 8th gear until I reach approximately 52-55 MPH and is more sensitive to throttle pressure that drops the engine out of ECO mode.

Oddly, the fuel mileage is better on the 2019 with a relatively same driving style and pattern. I have recorded 25 MPG once on the 2014. So far I have only had one tank under 20 MPG on the '19 within nine tanks, and one tank at 23.06 MPG.

I just took a day trip in the '19 where I saw over 27 MPG on the EVIC. I won't have the tank average until I fill up either today or tomorrow.

Anyway, my apologies. I don't think this answered your question directly.

Best regards,
Dusty

Dropped to 19.8 on this tank--50/50 light city/Highway, but much colder. I've noticed the transmission is not fully to operating temps until I've driven 20 miles (40 degree outside). I am driving with a very light foot to get these results.

800 miles and overall average from the dealership lot 19.2. First fill up was a 375 mile road trip mainly on a 55 mph two lane road with 70 miles total interstate driving at 65 mph, start elevation 3800' then climbing over a 5000' pass and descending to 400' then return home which resulted in 22.0 mpg. Hand calculated to 21.6.
The second test has been mainly a 24 mile loop with 55 mph and 45 mph roads going into town and back with only 1 stop sign and 2 stop lights. Showing 20.2 mpg hand calculated at 19.8

I drive easy and coast into stops.

Great results on a new truck with 3.92 gearing. Will you be signing up with Fuelly?

I recently took the '19 on a day trip that was limited to county, village, and state routes in Western New York state. These routes included varied terrain with minor to some medium hills. The trip total was 179 miles and at one stretch the EVIC was indicating an average of over 27 MPG. Speeds were confined to the highway speed limits, which ranged from 30 to 55 MPH. Fortunately the number of stops were limited (I did not count them) and we were held up for road construction once.

By the time we got back home I had gone through a city cycle and made a few complete stops and restarts for shopping, which ended up accumulating a total of 219.8 miles at the next fill up.

The truck took 8.884 gallons of 87 octane which hand calculated out to 24.74 MPG.

Is your truck the e-torque or just standard 5.7? I ordered a standard 5.7 with 3.92. I'm trying to find out what to expect.

Currently at 17.5mpg overall. Currently at 1300ish Miles with 80/20% city/hwy. I drive easy with occasional sprints. It’s getting better over time.

I’ve been following fuelly but haven’t signed up. Maybe I should to add more 3.92 and eTorque trucks

Could you do me a favor and check to see if your Trip B overall mph tracks your trip A mpg. I found that my Trip B mpg changes by the same amount as Trip A which indicates that Trip B is not a true mpg for mileage logged on Trip B. I reset Trip A at each fill up. Your trip mpg difference is 0.4 mpg in the picture. Does the difference stay at 0.4 mpg? Thanks

I took pictures of both my Trips, then drove 14 miles on the highway. Trip A mpg increased by 0.2 which is normal, but oddly my Trip B also increased by 0.2. Since there are 5 times the miles logged on trip B, it should have only changed by 0.04 mpg. Trip B and maybe Trip A don’t appear to be calculating true mpg for the entire miles logged. Curious if this is normal behavior.
