Loud Noise on Startup

My 2019 ram makes that same exact noise..I noticed if I remote start no clicking noises happen until I click the start button then the clicking sound occurs.

That sounds good to me. I don’t hear nothing abnormal about it. All engines make a little noise when they crank up that’s only normal.

The clicking sounds are the relays turning on (or off as the case may be) and are expected. If you don't hear the clicking sounds after start up .... run :D

Add me to this. Bought a 2019 Rebel last week, 302miles only and has been doing the start up clank since the 3 day. Mine is doing it at cold start and in inclines. And would the driveshaft recall has anything to.do with this.

Add me to the list, also my 17 F150 did it ocassionally and it was considered normal, it was the slack on the driveline when starting the engine.

Interesting

Mine just started doing it - I can't seem to replicate the conditions to get it to do it or not do it reliably

Hi willpr1012,
As stated to your fellow forum members, we would be happy to get a case escalated for you should you decide to have your dealer address this. Please send our team a private message if you are interested!

Add me to the list as well. Intermittent clank on start up. No real pattern I can find. To RamCares - so many seem to really find the dealer experience a dissatisfier. The time and trouble it takes to bring in the vehicle, only to be told either, "They all do that", or, "We couldn't replicate the issue" discourages me from even trying. What I'd like to see is for FCA to figure out what it is, and issue a TSB. Then we can go into the dealer armed with a symptom and hopefully a solution.

Hi david55838,
I certainly understand your reason for not wanting to visit the dealer. We would like to have this looked into further by the appropriate team. If you are experiencing this, please send us a private message with your VIN and mileage.

Add me to the "startup clunk/clank" group. A little less than 2 weeks off the lot, and a little over 200 miles on the odometer. Troubling.

I'm at almost 600 miles on a 3 week old 2019 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L built on April 20th 2019. It has happened 5 or 6 times. Like others I can't really replicate it, it just happens randomly. First time was at 450 miles or so. Some are louder than others. Other than that the truck runs great. Sounds like maybe the engine is hitting something in the engine bay when it jolts on the start up. It hasn't happened once with remote start.

I have a mechanical sound at some start ups as well. Weird, my Ford didn't do it lol.

The thing is with the bang on startup being random I already know the dealer is going to keep my truck for a day and say they couldn't replicate it. I have to bring my truck in for the airbag recall anyway but I know about the bang I'll be told to kick rocks.

The bang happened again last night on an in cab start up but the 5 or 6 other times I started the truck yesterday by remote start, some hot some cold starts, it didn't make the bang noise once.

Just made an appointment for this and other things since I'm due for my first oil change. My has done it since new, I now have 8000 miles on it. I have not notice a set pattern, seems random but does seem worse when not use remote start. Mine was built in June.
Dealer told me it was normal and other trucks on the lot sounded the same. I don't think they heard the "clunk" because there is no way that could be normal. I have over 11000 miles and it continues to do it at random. All of the other issues were fixed from squealing breaks to HK system etc and gas mileage is up so this is the only remaining issue.

It just happened on mine while I was out running errands. It sounds like it's coming from the rear to me, not 100% sure at this point, though.

Mine was doing it everyday after work for a long time. It also does it when I'm parked in my driveway (at an angle). Anyway, I have been experimenting with the way that I park it at work and I swear that it has something to do with the transmission and/or drive train slack. Before, I would park at work (back in), then maybe go forward a little, stop, and throw it into park. It seems that when I back in, adjust by going forward, and then slowly cycle the gear knob from D to N to R to P rather than just quickly throwing into park; the clunk does not occur. From my observation, I think that either the transmission isn't going into park completely or that quickly throwing it into park creates drive train slack. I'm curious if anyone else has noticed this. Either way, when it does occur it surely sounds violent and it is definitely not normal.

Yesterday on the one bang I did get I backed into the curb stop, let it roll forward a couple inches then put it in park and that's when it banged on the in cab start. Then this morning I parked the truck the same way but did the remote start and there was no bang. I'm hoping there's a TSB for this issue eventually.

Are you thinking you'd like to bring this to the attention of your dealer? If you end up getting an inspection, let us know. We're available via direct message and would be happy to help.

Add me to the list. Been doing it since new. Same as everyone else, metallic bang on start up, does it about 7/10 times. I have a good ear for hearing issues on my cars/trucks/bikes. Wife thinks im paranoid most of the time because I bought a lemon zx14r. But even she can hear and feels this and says its not normal. Called the dealership, truck is going in monday for the restraint recall. They made a note of my complaint but im not getting then to look at it just to say “cant dupicate” and then charge me $169

Why would you get charged $169 for a warranty concern? Since Tuesday when I got my last bang on start up I've only used remote start and it hasn't banged once. I was parking my truck and I saw a red 2019 Ram Rebel a couple spots away. I parked and lowered my windows right when the owner came out and started his truck, guess what? Big loud bang like we all been getting.
