Checking in to see if anyone is having the same issue I'm having. On startup, I would say 7-8 out of 10 times, there is this really loud noise! My wife even commented on it...she said that does not sound normal! I haven't recorded it yet. Anyone else having this issue???

I've heard the snap crackle pops on cold startups...figure it is just stuff expanding. Coming from 2 turbo F150s in a row...I'm used to start up noise.

Can you take a video to compare? IIRC, I haven't noticed it as loudly here recently....I did switch to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum about 2500 miles ago though. I'll pay attention in the morning when I start up again.

I believe the e torque uses the generator unit to start the truck using the drive belt, that’s why it’s so smooth etc. hybrids don’t use the starter unless the hybrid battery is low then the 12 volt runs the starter.
As for the noise could be lifter oil pressure bleed down, rattle noise that quits when oil pressure is reached. Next they have a few things I hear going on when starting one is a loud clank which is the park pawl mechanism I believe there is a message somewhere in the cluster I’ve seen it but can’t recall exactly. I notice it after starting more so on a hill. I use the park brake before putting into park if you dont you may hear it more often. The old trucks didn’t do this. Third is there are some clicks and stuff cycling when starting under hood and the fourth is what I believe is the evaporative emissions pump. Some of the newer cars and I believe the 19 rely on a pump that you can hear running along wth he engine. The 17 Honda CRV came with that new system it would run after the car was shut off. When I first came out people brought them in saying something stayed running with the key off. It took some research to figure out what it was and it as normal. I’ve mainly heard that noise when first starting in the morning but it might be because it’s in my garage and more noticeable.

I tried to record this morning, and of course, no luck!

I think you hit the nail on the head with the loud clank!!! That's a good description for what I'm hearing. Sounds like something's going to break! So this is normal then?

Here is a video of my startup this morning. It had a bit more of the crackle/popping when it was brand new - I'm at 3,700 miles now. This all sounds normal to me.

When I did my 1,000 mile oil change I used a Mopar filter that caused a ton of lifter startup noise. Promptly changed it to a Fram and it's silent now.

Hard to tell fully from the video on my phone but it sounds like various actuators etc engaging, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

I'd agree with that assumption. Different the turbo's spooling up (Ford) and it's gotten quieter the more miles I've put on.

Trying to bring this Forum back. I have this issue almost daily with the loud clunk. I feel like something is going to break and it just doesn't sound good. Especially when a friend gets in your truck and goes what was that noise and you have to explain that your brand new truck has a problem that no one has figured out. I feel like its something in the tranny. Maybe the torque converter once it starts spinning?

I have a mechanical (metal) crack sound at start up also. I have regular 5.7 Hemi (no e-torque). The sound happens often, 7/10 times like @mjharden mentioned. It is a very distinct sound like metal teeth or gears crashing together. Maybe a starter issue? Not a grinding, more like hitting solid metal with a hammer. It is one more "anomaly" that I have on my brand new 2019 RAM. Love the truck but hoping FCA / the dealer can resolve.
