Hi Blackoutram,

Thank you for reaching out. We can't necessarily change the diagnosis you were given as the dealer but understand your desire to reach a solution. Are you thinking you'd like to visit another dealer for a second opinion? Send me a direct message and I'll escalate your inquiry to a case specialist who'll work with that dealer toward a solution if this is of interest.

Mine does it about 25% of starts.

Couple observations:

1) Never does it on a remote start (could holding the brake pedal for normal starts be part of the issue?)
2) Mine only clanks when engine is warm - contrary to others, I never have issue on a cold start
3) I have had it occur and not occur on inclines and flat parking lots

I intermittently get the same sound as in RAM805's video: a single metallic clack, loud enough to be get my attention as unusual. The theory about it being the bendix hitting the flywheel seems the most likely to me. It seems like it could cause a bit of additional wear, but would it be enough to be significant?

Hi Jasmine

I know that was directed at me but I have a suggestion. Since putting our trucks on the computer isn't showing an issue (and seriously why would it if it's mechanical and not electrical?) tell the dealerships not to bother putting them on the computer. One of the biggest pitfalls to our technologically advanced cars and trucks is that nobody knows how to ****ing diagnose anything unless a computer tells them what's wrong and how to fix it.

So my suggestion would be to tell the dealerships to actually diagnose the physical parts on these trucks. Get them on a lift and touch EVERYTHING that moves. That's how my dealer found out my sway bar is bad ... any word on how long those are on back order for?. It wasn't my service manager though, the tech is a bright kid who decided to take the time to touch stuff. The service manager at my dealer is a condescending moron.

I can definitely make note of this and pass it along to the appropriate parties. From a customer care perspective, we utilize every resource available to us to help in the dealer work toward a solution. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to send us a direct message.

Following. I have the same issue (loud bang noise) on startup.

Have you gotten this inspected yet? Don't hesitate to connect with me via direct message if you end up going into the dealer. I can formally document this and escalate for further handling.

Boy's, it's a losing battle in a digital age. The FCA system is dependent on the acknowledgement of the corresponding VIN, build date and trim. If one of those parameters is not met while diagnosing your issue compared to known TSB's, the tech will reject the vehicle as healthy since the system will not approve the repair. Hence the tech will not get paid unless authorized by the service manager. The service manager uses the same system to verify the tech is correct.

You have to be vigilant and lead them by the hand. Very frustrating system for those of us who know how to turn a wrench.

"Road test did not replicate complaint" for radio issues and howling morning brakes was the last straw for me before I elevated my concerns to the service manager and physically walked him out to my truck. Problem solved. Parts ordered.

Firm but friendly gentlemen, but mostly firm. Good luck.

Some additional findings. I still get the noise sometimes, even when I ensure that the truck is not resting on the transmission (ie, I'm about to park, press brake to stop, hold brake, engage park brake fully before shifting into park on the trans).

I completed 3000 km on my limited RAM, same issue on the startup specially early morning or when car is resting. Dealer is telling me that it is normal! Will do you few trials and inform you about the output and let help RAM overall it is a monster

So, has anyone figured this out and found a fix yet? Mine continues to do it and seems to be clunking louder. In addition, it has a rattle that follows immediately after the clunk; which tells me something is loosening up or getting ready to break (and no, it is not the startup lifter rattle).

Add me to the list, also my 17 F150 did it ocassionally and it was considered normal, it was the slack on the driveline when starting the engine.

Here is a video of my startup this morning. It had a bit more of the crackle/popping when it was brand new - I'm at 3,700 miles now. This all sounds normal to me.

When I did my 1,000 mile oil change I used a Mopar filter that caused a ton of lifter startup noise. Promptly changed it to a Fram and it's silent now.
My 2019 ram makes that same exact noise..I noticed if I remote start no clicking noises happen until I click the start button then the clicking sound occurs.
