After taking my truck in for service for the infamous clunk sound and had zero positive feedback from the dealership. I have just started doing the lightly press brake pedal method and it's worked perfectly for the last 3 weeks....zero clunks. I'm loving my truck again
You can do it easier: push start button and then completely remove your foot from the brake pedal. I do like this.

Well I got my truck back after a week at the dealership and it seems like the clunk sound is gone. The dealership replaced the starter initially but that didn't fix it. They ended up re-torquing the suspension and a few other things and so far so good. It's been two days since I heard the sound so fingers crossed.

Yes that is it, I just purchased a 2019 ram crew cab HEMI lonestar and its doing the exact same thing, not every time, but almost always at first start of the day, and sometimes a couple of times a day after its been sitting for awhile with the engine off
Yep, starter disengaging from the fly-wheel. My Rebel does it as well as my co-workers Ram Hemi. For now, I consider it the nature of the beast unless something comes apart, then I`ll start whining :)

Hardly a starter. How does depressing the brake pedal change the operation of the starter?

Ever since I started releasing brake pedal upon start, the clunk has gone away. Thanks Max!

Well that didn’t last long. The noise came back after a couple of days. Was really hoping this was the fix.

I've never have kept the brake pedal pushed in after starting sequence and haven't had the clunk everyone is talking about.

There are two different "clunk" sounds that I have experienced.
One is the starter drive-gear disconnecting from the flywheel and the other is
drive-line slack taken up when shifting to drive, they do not happen very often.
I might set up a go-pro under the truck and try to capture it.

As far as the big boom noise that everyone seems to have honed in on lately, I think it's the brake booster and some type of pressure slamming into it at start up. Not sure why it only happens intermittently. As for the high speed valve train clatter that is definitely the lifters. Being a die hard Ram fanatic, I hate to say it but it is embarrassing to buy a brand new truck and have that kind of noise at start up. And for you guys that say, no big deal it's under warranty, some day it won't be and some day you will want to sell the truck. If a buyer comes to look at your truck and you start it up and boom, tick tick tick tick...no one is going to buy the "oh, it's just a Hemi thing, haha.

I'm a 564 miles ( built in April of 19) and just heard this clunk for the first time. the truck was warm only been off for about 20 mins so it's not a cold start issue. redline oil will get rid of those engine noises after about 500 miles for those of you with lifter noise.

Alex, dealer had my truck for a week to fix overhead console lights not working, bad shifting in 1st and 2nd gear, radio cutting out and noise on start up. They fixed overhead lights even though they put dirty finger prints on my head liner. They flashed transmission and it's a lot better. They changed wiring harness on back back up camera and radio is not cutting out. Even though I made the start up noise in front of the service manager after a week in the shop they couldn't replicate the noise. They said maybe after the flash on transmission it was fixed. I drove it home and the 3rd time I drove my truck it made the clunk. Hopefully fca will figure it out and do a recall item.

I've started letting my foot off the break before the truck starts and haven't heard the noise again but I have a new noise now. I think I'm getting some piston slap til it warms up. I'm at 1500 miles now

Hey Shane,

We certainly understand why this would be concerning. If you decide to have your dealer look into this, please know that we are just a PM away and happy to provide you with additional support for that process.

After almost 3000 miles on the truck now, I haven't heard it in a long time. last time was probably at 1,500 miles.

I don't bother even releasing the brake pedal anymore or being light with the pedal when starting, it still haven't heard it.
