If you've had the rear window leak...

******UPDATE******

I have another leak. I came out to the truck today during the rain and all interior windows were fogged. I guess I have to start this process over again. 21,000 miles and a year and a half old or so.

For those of you who have owned a Ram with a leak at the back window and had it fixed by replacing the entire rear window, did it return eventually?
Just replaced mine at Apple Auto Glass.

Time will tell but it is definitely a different frame/window. Hoping this will fix it. If not, Im done with RAM.

Just had the replacement installed at dealership, was contracted out to local auto glass installer. Keeping my fingers crossed I don't have to deal with this in another 40k miles.

Well, I now am having an intermittent start/stop disabled service light since having the rear windshield replaced. I will be calling the dealership Monday morning to see what they say.

Well mine is leaking again. Got a leak in the middle directly above the slider and no visible cracks. Seems to be a small leak so far.

The first time it leaked was in June 2023, fixed under bumper to bumper warranty by replacing the window. At that same time I replaced the stop light as well with the version that has the rounded gasket. I figured it would happen again :(

So now my choice it to contact the dealer because I believe they told me the replacement window has a 2 year warranty. Or I could try the DYI sealant. I plan to call the locally owned auto glass shop to see if he knows much about this issue and see if can get info on the "Ford" style glass or maybe just go with the a solid window and call it done. I'd hate to lose the slider but would welcome not having to think about this ever again.

edit: just realized this time the water is running down on top of the plastic frame whereas the first time it was behind the plastic. Maybe it's the 3rd brake light instead?

For what it’s worth and every leak is different….I had the same leak as you are describing. I sealed the brake and window and it still leaked, I sealed the shark fin and all seems good now.

Like BLACK19 mentioned, sounds like the shark fin.

yeah I think it's the shark fin this time. I poured several glasses of water around the window and no leak. Then moved on and poured several glasses around the brake light and no leak. Then moved on and poured around the shark fin but still no leak. However with the rake of the truck it's hard to get water under the fin. I've only noticed the leak after driving. So I'm thinking wind and or vibration might be letting the water under the fin. I'm guessing the best way to seal the fin is to carefully apply silicone. around the base.

On the shark fin, the actual water seal is inside near the center of the base, the gasket around the inside edge of the fin to keep the fin from scratching the roof. They also gapped the rear of gasket to allow water that gets under the fin to drain out. Not sure if you want to seal the outer edges of the shark fin.

Here is a good video that shows how to remove and seal it, you can see the gasket seal design at 6min 17sec.

What an absolute :poop: design on the shark fin. All they had to do was make a better rubber seal around the edge and they can't even do that. Or, just raise the area around the fin on the sheet metal itself!

I just checked my rear window, headliner and fin and so far so good, but I also have the sunroof and I know that seal isn't great either. There is always moisture in there and around the mesh bug catcher pop up thing. So I opened it up and let it air out but I'll have to test for leaks make sure it's all clean again this spring. When I got the truck (bought used) it was a disaster in there. All kinds of debris and dirt. But in my initial leak testing everything looked good and all the drains functioned as they should.

So I'm really just hoping I don't have to deal with the leaks anywhere else. I've already taken off the 3rd brake light to change the bulbs and the seal around it was pretty soaked, but it was working at least and I didn't see any evidence of leaks at the time.

Kinda sucks to have to monitor all these things yearly.

Thanks for the video!

I did some more water testing. Again poured several glasses of water along the glass seal and the light seal, no leaks. Then I poured over the screws in the light and then it leaked. Screws are tight, probably too tight. I vaguely remember a slight cracking sound when I replaced the light in 2023 but it never leaked. I might try some silicone in the screw holes but it's cheap enough to buy a new light.

@RamCares Im currently trying to get this issue resolved. The dealership completed the TSB repair and it failed. Stellantis is now refusing to cover the replacement of the windshield, won’t file a good will repair, and is forcing me to pay to cover the cost of a manufacturing issue and replace the rear windshield assembly.

Welcome to the club. Warranty would not cover mine or any consequential damage. Mine had been leaking since I bought the vehicle. I found out after I had catastrophic damage to the RF Hub after Hurricane Milton last year. Mine was leaking along the top edge of the glass. I got mine done at Safelite and when they took it out they showed me and we could see it was installed incorrectly at the factory. Lots of area along the top edge that had no sealant at all. Long story longer they installed the new one correctly and it comes with a lifetime warranty that includes consequential damage if it leaks. Also because I was able to make an insurance claim for mine because it was related to the storm, they covered the RF Hub and carpet damage. Wouldn't cover the window because it wasnt directly related to the storm. I didnt do the carpet replacement and used that money to do the window. I actually came out ahead in the end.
