If you've had the rear window leak...

Thanks. Dealership should have the adhesive and third brake light this week and I have my follow up next Tuesday. Anything I can do to help prevent water intrusion until then?
Gaffer tape or masking tape on the rear window, around the light, park in a garage if possible.

Once they replace the 3rd brake light.. Home depot or Lowes get a strip of marine grade rubber and remove that stupid foam gasket they’re probably still using that will eventually hold water and never worry about it again or just do that to your original one and keep the new one on the shelf.

We are getting that winter weather here in Florida so I had to do something quick. I Cut a contractor yard bag in half and covered the window and brake light. Then used some magnets to hold it down.

My prior 2019 bighorn I found had a rear window leak after I purchased my lease out (I'm confident have been doing it for quite a while but I never realized it at the time) I ended up trading it in shortly after. Now my 2022 Laramie also has a rear window leak and I'm still under my 3/36 warranty. Silly me I took it in for a repair thinking that it would be covered by my bumper to bumper. Dealer inspected informed me that they did find the leak and that thet had to order the window but unfortunately it is not covered under warranty and is only covered by the one year 12,000 mi and to replace it I could pay $1,700 out of pocket has not covered by my bumper to bumper and considered a customer caused issue due to the track being dirty. Mind you my frame is not cracked on the inside where the tech showed me they typically are and it appears the window is separating from its seal because when he pushed on the window outward water began to drip in. Also spoke to my salesman who had told me that his also had to be replaced previously and he was rather shocked that it wasn't covered.

Dealer service dept was no help at all other than giving me a phone number at corp to call. Sure would love to see the numbers on how many people have actually had this problem that they know of, not including those that probably don't have a clue etc. How there isn't a recall or a class action at some point if not at this point?

My current lease is up in about two and a half months.... At this point there's no way I get another one. I realize all car companies suck to at least some point but this is pretty offensive
Something doesn't sound right here. If your truck is leaking they need to address that. If this dealership refuses to help then take it to another dealership. A leaking rear window is covered by the factory warranty. Lots of other people have had this replaced under warranty, outside the 1yr/12k glass warranty. Ours was replaced with two months left on the 3yr/36k factory warranty. Add to that the fact that's you're leasing the truck and it doesn't make sense to me that they're unwilling to replace an obviously bad rear window.

******UPDATE******

I have another leak. I came out to the truck today during the rain and all interior windows were fogged. I guess I have to start this process over again. 21,000 miles and a year and a half old or so.

For those of you who have owned a Ram with a leak at the back window and had it fixed by replacing the entire rear window, did it return eventually?
Mine was replaced around 15,000 miles, at 42,000 still is not leaking.

One would think you are correct and I sure thought that too. Unfortunately reading through this thread along with others there are plenty of other owners that have had the same experience. My salesman gave me the phone number to ram care to reach out to them for help. Service gave me the phone number to warranty support... Though I've had no time during the day to call either of these as I work 12 hour nights haven't had the energy to do this during the day yet. I'll have to call another local dealer and try them as well I guess.

I just got back from my dealer having my rear window re-sealed due to this rear window leak.

They charged me $352 to re-seal the rear window leak, even though I showed them the TSB that said my 2019 RAM 1500 was covered by this for 8 years based on its date of manufacture (I purchased this vehicle in December of 2019, it was built in 2018, so its covered by the TSB)! 🤬🤬

They said if my specific vehicle was covered by the TSB (TSB 23-098-23 Rev. A) and the warranty extension, then it would have come up on their report when they entered my VIN into their system.

But my vehicle should have this covered based on my date of manufacture per the TSB.

I just ticked over 65K miles, and my vehicle is over 3 years old, so it's no longer covered by the initial warranty. I paid for the extended warranty, but they said this issue isn't covered by the extended RAM warranty.

They said I can call RAM and complain, but there's nothing the dealer could do about it.

It's a well known issue and documented by the TSB , they even admitted this, but since my VIN wasn't tagged as covered, I had to pay.

I d call Ram and think you d get a refund. Good luck.

So it seems that after my 2nd replaced rear window, it's leaking yet again. I've never had any cracks in the frame, my leaks have always come from the upper corners. So at this point I can only assume that the technician is not properly removing all the sealant/adhesive during removal and installation of the new window. This permits water to get in between the 2 layers of adhesive...and when temperatures get into the single digits (rare here in TN), freezing water expands and breaks the seal.

This AM I went to my local Ram dealer with the extended warranty letter in hand, I was told that they no longer replace the window but seal it up. I'd rather do this myself instead of leaving it to some technician who may be disgruntled and do a half-*** job. I attempted the Permatex fix after my first replacement window failed, but I couldn't get it to flow consistently down into the small recess along the whole window. Is there another sealant anyone can recommend or another applicator that will help place it smoothly into that gap? Thanks.

What time of year was it when you tried the permatex flowable silicone?

I've read that Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure is another alternative. Might be worth a try...

Just picked mine up from being sealed today and they did a pretty good job. My Dealer subs it out to a certified window installer and they used the 2 part urethane sealant required by Stellantis in the TSB. We will see how well it holds up.

It was June of '23....so plenty warm enough. It just made a mess, was a nightmare to clean out.

UPDATE: It took 40 days and countless calls and an email for Ram to finally approve the repair under warranty and make it right. The dealer did their job and followed everything in their power. Ram Cares stumbled, and fumbled, but finally pulled through.

Figured I would add to this. Just began to have this issue roughly 3 weeks ago. Rear window has now been resealed 2 times and third brake light replaced. Continue to have a leak in two separate places on the rear window. Just got the call from my local dealership they are replacing my rear window, however it is on backorder so it will be roughly 45 days of waiting now.

I’d permatex it in the interim to salvage your interior as best as you can. Couple of buck for 2 tubes should do it

So far after two hard rain storms there have been no further leaks after dealership sealed the window and replaced the third break light.

Maybe this was my issue, my dealer did the sealant themselves both times with no success. Thankfully it is a window installer once my rear windshield arrives.
