In these auto applications, it's media files (audio), data for Android Auto (screen duplication, contacts, media, etc.) and possibly for firmware updates. Not sure if Ram does this but Ford has shipped owners fw updates for Sync on usb sticks for updates.

My '16 F150 can update over wifi, although I downloaded to a USB drive when I upgraded to Android Auto.
