How big have you towed? w/Pics no tricks!

One way trip for my son.

Did not do a cat scale and overloaded on advertised tongue weight, 1,325 lbs, per manufacturer.

Tape measure, Timber Grove Air Bags at 14 lbs and Snugged/Compressed the Andersen Red Spring until I measured 1/4" from unloaded.

Travel Trailer was level, tested brakes on lot, off I went.

Two fingers steering at 55 and four at 65.

Lots of traffic for mid day on the highway, drove between 55 and 63.

Luckily the winds were 5to 10 mph, ever once and awhile you could feel the gust.

Operating Temperature normal/same as towing my 5k, 22ft long TT. 10mpg per lie o-meter.

Certainly would not transport or tow a 38ft camper but you do things for your kids.
Do you happen to know how many threads were exposed on the Andersen? Trying to figure out how tight I can go without calling them.

For the thread, heaviest I've towed with the Ram:

Sadly to say number of threads shown on Andersen WDH will very depending where the brackets are mounted. I had to order brackets for my son's trailer and I mounted best I could per directions. I wish Andersen would give a limit on how much you can compress their spring. I probably have compressed said spring more than the one shown below towing his Big Camper, 8 threads.

PS I have previous read some of your thread and thought you ordered a different WDH but were ordering Timber Grove Air Bags.

Try at your own risk, I didn't not like the camper height, tongue high, when setting ball height 1.5 in higher than coupler per Andersen WDH. I played around and set the ball height the same as coupler and then added air in the Air Bags to raise ball 2 in. Works well for me..
There is a poster name Verndiesel is said he compress the spring alot. Found a pic where I had compressed mine alot before I repositioned my brackets.

For sure. Just trying to see how tight I can get away with.

I'm going to put some new tires on, then probably the Timber Grove bags.

Feels like I'm close to getting everything nice and solid, but towing on 84 through Idaho has my wife wanting to go up to a 3500.

The Timber Grove Air Bags definitely helped. Eventually I will replace Tires on Ram and TT which will help. The good thing it's easy to pull off an exit to tighten or loosen the nut.

My 22ft trailer with a 4,800 lb try weight still gets pushed around with the wind on windy days. Old school tongue weight, heavy 13 percent, and tongue below level. But as Verndiesel says 2 finger steering you know you have it set right. 👍

First time hooking up my trailer to the new truck. 2020 Rebel. Still making some minor adjustments. Went ahead and put some leveling bags on the rear to help with any sagging issues. Was just a sort 20 mile drive but was impressed with the towing capabilities of this truck. Buch better then my 2007 1500 megacab. The trailer is about #6500-6800 pounds. What was your max weight while towing?

E3484843-E929-4479-BF35-BB535A3CE56A.jpeg Most weight at a Cat scale was 15,380 combined. Trailer weight is about 10,225 fully loaded. Towed round trip from Arizona to South Florida, 5340 total miles on the trip. Installed air bags and a gooseneck hitch, Anderson Ultimate hitch. Trailer empty is about 8200 pounds.

Pulled a 23-24’ Shamrock pilot house for a buddy last year. Only ~ 30 miles trip but the truck pulled it like a dream. Only thing I’d change is maybe I’d like helper springs as the trailer was pretty tongue heavy. Was told the boat weighed 6,000 pounds and the trailer was another few hundred.

Our 212QB Jayco that's had way too many problems. 26' bumper to hitch, 5,500 lbs loaded up for camping. The 1500 Big Horn does a much better job than my 22 Gladiator max tow.View attachment 150874
Yup…. Jayco’s look nice on the surface but are garbage underneath. We had so many problems with our we had to sell at under market value. Total junk.

37" Coachmen Catalina. 8100lbs dry close to 9400lbs loaded. Put over 1200 miles with it behind me. Timber Grove airbags help with the crappy roads here in Michigan.

Thanks for all the info. I kept doing more research and discovered that timbren makes a similar product. I do not favor either brand but happened to find a set of timbrens for $180 on the etrailer site which were significantly cheaper than sumos so I went with those, I hope I don't regret my decision. I didn't know anything about this category of helper springs so thanks for posting. I'm excited to see how my tow experience will be now.
The Timbrems are better in you live in Snow country. The other brand will wear out from all the salt they use on the highways!

26’ 2 story pontoon boat. It’s my friends, not mine, so I honestly have no idea what the weight is. I know pontoons aren’t crazy heavy for their size.
But being a huge sail, I could definitely feel it behind the truck.
