Has anyone shattered their back glass just by closing a door?

This same thing happened to me today, 841 miles on my 2020 Ram 2500, Limited Black Addition, only owned it for 3 weeks. Closed my drivers door and cracked, heard pieces of glass hitting the cab and bed. Heading to the dealer tomorrow to see what kind of customer service they offer me??? Well happened to me over the weekend. Going to try the warranty route first. Hopefully @RamCares works
Hi there,

I talked to the dealership. I’m taking it in tomorrow so they can take pictures and submit the claim. They said they’ve never seen it before and she didn’t seem too hopeful warranty would cover it. But clearly it’s happened to people. So we shall see.

Based on what response they give me tomorrow then I’ll ask for @RamCares help. Thank you

Well im not too hopeful after my dealer visit. The warranty person went out and took pictures of my truck. Mind you i didnt touch or clean up any glass just to be sure i wasnt trying to hide anything. What i got was "ive been doing glass a long time i see an impack mark, was it really parked in your garage when it happened? ive never seen this randomly happen before"

when i showed her this thread of the exact same thing happening "well i can google pictures too"

@RamCares I sent you a DM, thanks for helping.

Some more pictures from the day it happened. With the glass bowed OUT from the inside of the truck.

If you had a passenger, lets say a kid and it exploded - would this fit as a safety issue and could it be filed with the NHTSA

I would think this is a safety issue regardless of passenger age. Pretty crazy this happened a few times. I've heard about the sunroof doing the same thing. Glad everyone's good to go. Good luck!

It's tempered safety glass. Unless a kid ate it, it's not going to cause any major injury. A tiny cut at worst. NHTSA is ridiculous, they would laugh at you, when safety glass broke the way it should instead of in to slivers. More than likely, if nothing hit it, it didn't have a good connection, arced, over heated the glass, and it broke. All tempered glass breaks in to a thousand pieces when over heated.

Good grief....

It couldn't possibly be a cheap flexible plastic frame or improperly tempered glass

ram denied coverage, said it was "outside damage"
The terminal in the jpg e24, looks burnt to me. Heat will shatter tempered glass. Go higher up. Who was the "warranty Person"? Just a service advisor? Service manager? Factory rep? Don't just contact Ram Cares, call Customer Service. There are higher departments to make decisions.

She handles all the warranty submissions for the dealership.

I already made an insurance claim. Getting it fixed Saturday. I’m not going back and fourth with ram while my truck sits in my garage.

My next door neighbor has a 22 BH with a non slider window and it fractured and bowed out. He has 14,000 on it. He had the full glass coverage on it(minus the sun roof glass) and he had it replaced in the driveway. Glass guy said he has seen this on several brands of vehicles.

I guess with the slider they wanted it done in a shop. Anyway I’m here waiting on it. My window shipment got screwed up and they sent an oem window vs an aftermarket so it works out better. The glass guy said there was glue separation around the edges and it was a factory defect. And ram cars just gave me other numbers to call
