Has anybody added the factory intrusion alarm system?

DId you get the LED indicator light to flash? Is the switch this setting in the AlfaODB menu: “CBC I/O: **VTA Warning LED Output Present”?

I did activate my alarm. The LED Warning LED is: “CBC I/O Warning LED Output Present“ If the vehicle theft alarm (VTA) is not activated with the Bighorn, or Tradesman, the status of CBC I/O Warning LED Output Present will be set to NO in the AlfaODB menu. Switch that to yes, and the light will blink. It also comes on when you turn the truck on.

I found the AlfaOBD on Amazon for about $50. What are the other "required bits and pieces"? Thanks.

Update...
I got AlfaOBD, and the required bits and pieces, and got the VTA programmed (tested and worked) but I did NOT get the instrument panel "security" indicator. So I backed it out. (There were a couple of options that I didn't recognize. One of which included "ITM", I think. But the system didn't like that option anyway.)
I also do not have a hood switch. When I enabled it, it showed "open", so obviously it works backwards from how I expected. (N.C instead of N.O.) So, it would appear that I need that switch. (On second thought, maybe that's why my security light did not come on.)
In any event, I will revisit this later.

The Trailer Brake Controller programming appears to be a success, OTOH, so I still got my money's worth out of the programming package.
So... onward and upward.

To quote one of my favorite movie lines...
"Let's see... what we can f_ck with next!" --Eddie Murphy. 48 Hours.

You need a Bluetooth OBD II adapter and Secure Gateway Module bypass. And an Android phone / tablet. Many threads on the forum about AlfaOBD and connecting it to your truck.

Search for "elm327 obd2 bluetooth" on Amazon, any of these should work.

When it comes to SGM bypass, I use this one

Konrad nailed it, on both counts.
Just Android and Windows. (If you can find a windows emulator that runs on iPad, it might work, but I'm not suggesting that. Can't vouch for its operation, since I don't speak i-language.)
The required hardware is a bluetooth OBD2 adapter of some sort, and the Security Gateway Bypass module, posted above.

Sorry to revisit this thread and bump it, but I'm somewhat stunned here. I just got into a $61K Ram Rebel that does not have a factory alarm? Am I reading this correctly? I just went outside and checked my dashboard and I can see a very faint red light blinking to the right of the speedo. Would that be the alarm? If so, does anyone know why FCA made this light so dim?

I'm having a very hard time digesting that a truck with this MSRP doesn't have a basic alarm that comes equipped standard in every entry-level car I know.

Am I wrong to expect the classic honk/lights alarm to be included in this truck? I don't see it mentioned in the window sticker and haven't tested it since it is late here and I don't want to wake up the neighborhood.

If the scum breaks your window, like they did to me and they do not open the door, they can clean you out without any horn/siren. The damage done, to break my rear window, new paint on the door, (they scratched down to metal with glass shards.) and a complete new door card (2600.) All the damage cage to ~$4600. The collision center had to remove my rear door and turn it upside down to get out all the glass. What a nightmare. I have to go see the Geek Squad at Best Buy the augment these crappy, useless "alarms". I haven't done it yet because of all the bugs in my Uconnect, its a real nightmare!!! I'm sure FCA dealer will tell me I caused these problems with the alarm.
This situation was a real stomach turner for me. Went into CVS to get a script picked up, less than 6 minutes break in all completed.

And this is why I have a viper alarm hooked up to my train horns on my truck

Once you deal with this garbage, you will think differently. The thieves know HOW our crampy alarm system works. Sheriff told me they NEVER open the doors. Therefore no Alarm sounding.
This mess cost just for new complete door card, new factory glass, all new chrome and rubber moldings and complete repaint of entire door. $4600.00
When they break the glass, they jump into the window. The broken glass will destroy the paint, chrome and all the leather and plastic bits inside the door. My collision center is owner by a German immigrant who is a perfectionist. That made me happy to keep the truck. What a nightmare. I hope to get to see the Geek Guys this month. I want glass, shaker and perimeter if they could do it. I'm afraid of the small shops, Yelp has real nightmares. I don't want electrical issues.

I would go to a reputable audio/alarm installer shop before going to geek squad if I were you.

The Geek Squad around here they actually do better job then some of the audio/alarm installer shop or audio/alarm installer shop want arm and leg to do the job. Mine will have Compustar security/remote start install soon.

I contacted an Alarm / stereo Specialist in Houston via Yelp. His response: "We can add sensors to your factory alarm. We cannot make it as sensitive as you want it to be but we can make it to where if someone tries to break the window, it will go off. The price would be between $450 and 650 + tax. " I'll do my best to stop by his facility next week and discuss what he proposes to do for me. I really like adding to the factory set up and not adding a complete new system to compete with the factory one. The Yelp rating was 5 stars , about 130 ratings.

What??? $450 and 650 + tax. to add sensors to your factory alarm and cannot make it as sensitive as you want it??? With that money you may as well go with after market and adjust it as you like.

I will work that out. Cash speaks volumes. My truck has ~7K miles, I don't want to screw my warranty with a complete Viper or Compustar and a new remote. I want to keep it all factory, with real protection, not FCA crap, I cannot believe for 70+K list, I couldn't get basic glass protection. What's with these dealers, they have NO One who customizes their alarms. They don't even care. Back in 2011 I bought a Lexus Hybrid 65K, for $100. they snapped in a Lexus module that gave me full glass and shock/towing. FCA seems so old.

My viper alarm still activates and deactivates with my factory key fob as well as arms and disarms when I touch the handle just like from the factory.

I head over to the Houston Stereo & Alarm, Guy has several hundred 5 stars ON yelp. I'll look into a Viper addition. I put one way back in my youth on a 91 Acura Legend and just LOVED the Viper system!

Well, this morning I dropped by Houston Car Stereo & Alarm on Hillcroft off of Westhiemer Rd.. I got to meet and speak to the owner Mohammad. A man who was very knowledgeable and quite affable. Mohammad has a large operation and its very organized and clean. Lots of electronics. We discussed adding to the factory system, where as I can use my factory fob for everything. They are installing a Viper System with three modules, Glass, towing, and vibration. The job would take ~5 HRS. l told Mohammad I would have to come back Friday since I needed to get home about 18 miles west. He told me the Lexus SUV in the front of his building had a key in it and told me take it home, " I'll call you when the Tech is done." I did mention how I was very particular with my Truck and I didn't want any electrical issues, he laughed and said don't worry we know what we are doing here. He has a F150 in the service area which had the security all upgraded. He said Ram /Jeep is the most difficult. Gm and Ford was easy. About 4.5 hours later, Mohammad called me to pick up my ride, it was all set. I drove back and they showed me what they accomplished. Indeed they put in a Viper, siren that also chirps and all the 3 modules, I noticed a microphone under the steering wheel nicely placed, also I saw late last night a glowing blue led next to the rear view mirror. It was very well placed and the wires disappeared into the headliner. Mohammad told me the Technician he assigned to work on my truck has worked for him for over 25 years and the knows installation process without issue. I am very impressed with the work. I have not found any scratches or damage anywhere. (Its sad I cannot take my car to the dealer without getting something scratched or broken.) I'm glad this is done, a break in is quite a hassle. I want to avoid that from happening again. The job cost me $600.00 total. Some may squawk, but for what I got its good insurance and peace of mind.
