Imagine an IWB with the spring clip on the outside. The clip would go on the console rather than your belt and the orientation is still right hand draw.

If you don't want to use screws to mount something underneath the dash, might be worth buying a cheap holster and keeping it in the map pocket as shown. Are you transferring your EDC from the holster you're wearing to the truck? Or do you plan on having a separate gun that lives there all the time? Either way, the holster for the map pocket doesn't need to be a nice leather piece. Any thing (cheap) will do. And now you don't have to worry about the magnet pulling out / screws in the dash etc.

Personally, I wouldn't leave a handgun there all the time. The advantage to the under dash mount is that it's difficult to see from outside the vehicle.

Another option would be a console safe for storage when you're not in the vehicle.

I don’t plan on leaving it. Just easier to pull it from the dash than from my hip with a seatbelt.

I use a magnet that’s mounted to the right of the wheel so it’s accessible with my right hand. I used the 4 screws that came with the magnet. If I ever do trade this truck in, I’ll just leave it there just like my last RAM. I live in rural Texas and I’m sure the next owner would appreciate it .

This is what I’ve always used in all of my vehicles including my patrol vehicle and that one holds my Mossberg Shockwave. Cheaper than a holster, and easier to access.

You talking about the magnetic ones? If so, they work through the plastic of the console & allow you to draw from the holster in place?

The magnets are really strong. When IWB the magnet flops over your belt and catches against the magnet in the holster. Cool thing is that it is nice and soft as opposed to plastic clips and much easier to toss back into IWB carry when you get out of the truck. I will take some pictures/video when I get motivated.

I clip my universal holster onto the map pocket by your right knee and my Glock 43 lives there

If I did that with my IWB holster, I feel like it would just slide forward and backward a little, plastic on plastic. I havent actually tried it though.

Plus the thought of clipping it there several times a day makes me feel like it would wear scratches into the plastic.

The thing that makes me apprehensive to putting it by the knee is its visibility to a police officer. I dont want to make anyone nervous unnecessarily by it being there.

And fiddling around relocating it during the brief time while being pulled over isnt the smart thing to do.

I understand advising the officer once he/she approaches and keeping wrists crissed hands at 11 and 1 oclock, but all that to me seems like its more worrisome as a result of its location in sight.

I have been pulled over, with mine in a center console, or other secured location away from my papers. Since its not on me, nor in a compartment with my papers, it doesnt even become a factor.

I am prior LE.

As far as having it THAT available in prep for carjackings or similar, its out and on me given the environment calls for it, if its that shady.

I have a magnet mount on the bottom right hand side of the steering wheel dash area. It’s a very strong magnet in which I added felt to it so it doesn’t mess up the finish to either my Glock 42 or Glock 19X. Everyday as soon as I get in my vehicle, weapon goes from my concealed holster to my mount and when I dismount from the vehicle the weapon goes right back into its holster.

I can easily reach my weapon while driving around without anyone even noticing I grabbing it. I work in a bad area so I have to be always ready

THIS...but I have a MagTuff magnet from Amazon and they are super strong. I pull my in-waistband holster and stick it under the dash with the gun inside. It holds perfectly. Had the same on previous trucks and never had an issue.
I used 2 small screws in opposite diagonal corners and it holds great.

I just insert my padded case in the small cubby under the door handle. I leave in unzipped but pushed closed. With the black door and black pistol case it is hardly noticeable, even when the door is open. Yet it is readily available.

I had this holster made for me with a RAM mount attached to it and then bought the rest of the RAM mounts I needed to run the seat bolt through it and attached everything. this was in my 17, but I am planning to add it to my 19 shortly

I have switched to crossdraw holsters due to shoulder injury. Makes drawing from a seated position much easier than from your strong side.
