Get the Best Price on a Factory Extended Warranty

Just curious, why the rush to buy an extended warranty with a brand new truck. You’ve got 3 years of bumper to bumper factory warranty, why not just wait until it’s close to expiring before making a decision? Your extended warranty doesn’t even kick in for three years. That at least gives you some time to decide if you even need one based on how your truck is performing. I do understand the price goes up as you get closer to the expiration date, but does it go up THAT much? Maybe a couple hundred $$.. may be worth it to wait and save some short term cash. Then if you decide you don’t want or need one you’ve just saved yourself over a thousand dollars. Just a thought...

Well, as I recall, you bought your's earlier, refunded it, bought it again, and refunded it again. Not sure what you're preaching! LOL

For me it was just simple peace of mind and knowing that I plan on keeping this truck well past the 3/36k factory warranty. Waiting til just before the 12k/24k/36k warranty price increases ($200??) only adds to my final extended warranty costs and not worth it for me.

It's cheaper if you do it within I thought the first year or 12,000 miles. That's one reason. If you wait past 12K, the price will go up.

The main reason I would advocate for a 7 year warranty is if you keep it for 5 years then go to sell it, you'll have an easier time selling it because there's a one time transfer allowance to the next buyer for a $50 fee so you can sell the truck to someone and they'll know they have 2 more years warranty on it. That may be the difference to some buyer out there.

so i have a question why is everyone buying extended warranties right as soon as they get their truck i have always waited till close to the end of the 3-36. your truck could get stolen, totaled out or you just trade it in . is their some advantage to getting it early? does having 2 warranties at the same time get you more coverage? also all the gm warranties i have bought in the past the time & mileage starts the day you bought it so my 50k warranty bought at 36k miles takes me to 85k miles not just 50k

There a few benefits if you purchase early (before the 3/36 warranty is over).
The MOPAR ESP begins at your "in-service" date. Most OEM esp do. Third party warranties may have different provisions.

Just to clarify, my understanding of buying an extended warranty, it does not necessarily become valid until the factory warranty expires at 3/36k (you might get certain provisions like rental coverage, etc). Then, based upon the extended warranty time (years) and mileage you select, this gives a total from the inservice date of the vehicle. In other words, waiting until a day before the 3/36k warranty expires to buy the 8/85k Mopar extended warranty does NOT give you a total of 11 years and 121k miles since it starts from the inservice date. Hope that helps...

I *JUST* posted the provisions above, an ESP starts when you buy the truck, aka the "in-service date".
If your truck has 113 miles when you bought it, and you bought a 7 year 75,000 mile ESP, then your coverage is for 7 years or 75113 miles, which ever comes first.

correct, but it does cost money to do that transfer:

In most, but not all, cases, remaining coverage may be transferred to a second owner of the vehicle at the time of vehicle sale. A $50 option transfer fee will be applied (in most states). Your personalized plan provision describes the transfer rules applicable to your plan and the transfer fee in your state. If you have financed your Mopar® Vehicle Protection, the plan needs to be paid in full before you can transfer it.

sounds like parties interested in a longer warranty purely for the value of its transferability assuming they're tired of the truck should inquire what states have limitations. This would be me. I'll have to call them up before I commit to anything longer than 5 years.

Ah thanks, for some reason your photo didn’t come through for me the first time, I could only see the very first line. Must have been an Internet glitch.
I had to crop it, so the pricing for cancellation might not have displayed correct, especially on a mobile device,
but you were correct in your earlier statement, $50.

yeah this is the totally different from my gm extended warranties they started when you purchased them & added the millage & years to your current miles. gm's factory standard 3-36 paid for rental cars or loaners trip loss, free towing etc. ram sounds pretty cheep on the warranty end of things

Correct, for me it took me two tries to realize that it was a waste of money for me , At least until my factory warranty runs out. Much rather invest that money in something that provides returns instead of an extended warranty that doesnt even kick in for a couple more years. Maybe when I get close to the end of the 3/36 and if the truck keeps breaking down or has issues, I’d have a solid case.. but right now I’m earning nice returns on that money I would have wasted on an ESP that wasn’t even in effect yet. But hey I get the whole “it’s cheaper below 12k miles” concept... it’s just not for me.

Just took delivery of a 2021 Ram Limited V-8 . Looking into extended warranty now rather than at 3/36 due to potential price increase & potential change or cancelation of program as is. I have what to me seems a good quote from Tom Winkels at hayescars.com but here in the forum I saw people mention talking to Sam or Bob Cline at Zurich. I called Zurich but they indicated their warranty is sold only through authorized dealers & I could not speak directly to anyone there.

The first post of this thread can be really handy - https://5thgenrams.com/community/th...-factory-extended-warranty.28851/#post-406096

Keep in mind inflation as well. I know the guy above is making money in the market but every time I drag-*** on buying a warranty, I generally will pay more down the road. $2200 today becomes $2700 in 3 years. if you spend $2200 today for an 8 year warranty and use it on year 7 for a $2500 warranty claim that you have to put $200 down in deductible, yeah, he's right that you should have invested that money instead but the part that costs 2 grand today will probably be 3K in 7 years.

Just food for thought.

Possibly should have called Ziegler, they are a dealer.
