Weird cause mine came right out with a simple twist and pull clockwise, it’s opposite what you’d think.

I just received two new Gen 3 filters and neither will come out of the canister. pulled, twisted CW. I will change the oil using one of these, keep the original canister bottom, and get a Gen 2 filter and see how it fits. My guess is that its the same cartridge.

That is very strange, I wonder if there is a few different versions of these filters. What are the part numbers on the housing and the cartridge itself?

Both housings looked identical and had the same part numbers but the filters had different numbers on them, they look nothing like the Gen 2 filters and have different attachment points inside the housing.

I received two at the same time. neither separate. see photos of PN. Made in China is all over both but I love the packaging labels that say made in Undefined.

Part numbers are different on your cartridges and boxes but the main filter housing is the same.

I took some better pictures of the factory filter I replaced with the mopar filter.

So you replaced this factory filter with the new Gen 3 cartridge/housing assy? Was there a PN on the factory cartridge that could be removed from this cartridge by lifting and twisting ?

The pictures I posted were from the filter that came from the factory, there are instructions printed on the cartridge on how to remove. Turn clockwise and pull. There were two part numbers, one from mopar 46346299 and one from UFI 25.175.01.

The filter housing had the same part number as the replacement mopar filter and the one you posted 46344766, which makes me think they changed the cartridge itself and it should be removable even tho it says not to.

Once there are more filters available in Canada I will take one apart and compare all 3. The factory filter, mopar 68498720AA, and the newer version

So I got a call from my sales buddy at the dealer and he told me they had filters in stock so I had to pick on up for my next oil change. This one has a different part number, one I haven’t seen yet.

The oil filter cap has the same part number as the factory and first replacement filters 46344766.

the cartridge once again says “do not remove” but comes out easily in a clockwise direction. The part number on that is 162127665, this is different from the factory filter but the same as the first replacement.

I made a video of the removal for those interested.

The inside of that filter cap was very interesting. Would like to see a closer view of that. Looks like another o-ring seal inside there?

I believe the anti drain back and pressure relief valve are built into the filter cap, maybe this is the reason for replacement? Could have been a bad batch maybe?

Talk about confusion. Now the online suppliers, like Dieselfilters and others, show that this PN 68507598AA , replaces the one you just purchased from the dealer. Possibly the dealers are the only ones that get the removable cartridges (69498720AA).

If your filter housing is the same part number as the 3 filters I have seen I see no reason why the cartridge wouldn’t be removable. Sometimes it gets hung up and you have to wiggle the filter for it to release.

My original factory was removable. 2 of the ones I ordered from DFO are, 1 I'm pretty sure if I twist it harder will break. so I dunno. The 2nd gen filters fit in the factory housing just fine, and looking, I can't tell a difference.

Add me to the list. I finally changed my oil today and my factory installed filter was a removable element, but the one I bought online is not. However, the caps have identical part numbers. So I'm thinking ordering the filter element may be all we need to do. The UFI element should twist into ALL the caps. Correct?

The replacements come out the same way the factory filter does, they just don’t have the instructions printed on them. Caps have all had the same part numbers on the 4 different filters I’ve had. Different part numbers on the box and filter element each time tho.

I think ram wants to cash in on the filters while they can so they had UFI stop putting the instructions on the filters for now.

The caps also contain what I believe is the bypass valve so maybe they want those changed each time? We haven’t heard from anyone at ram about this so it’s all a guess.

Yeah, an internet search doesn't turn up the filter element by the part # that was stamped on it. So if I can't get just the element, then it doesn't matter.

ID parts says they can get them from UFI, they already sell the UFI filters for the gen2. I'd expect availability to be soon, but covid19 and every BS thing made in china to save a buck is annihilating the just in time production and business model and I hope it dies the death is deserves. No thanks to Trump and his polices but by divine intervention.
