I just saw a picture of a Gen 3 oil filter from dieselfiltersonline.com that was delivered today to a member of the Gen 3 owners group on Facebook....so they must finally be shipping!

Looks like they are only $44 for the oil filter now?

I have a little over 1500 miles so far, wondering if I should go ahead and order one just in case?

Dealer mark-up is 200%. You can figure the dealer paid half the price they're charging you and FCA paid half of that price is what it cost to make it with some margin included. Parts is a good business.

Did you receive the Gen 3 oil filter from dieselfiltersonline?

I called them Friday afternoon. Lady told me that she got an order of fuel filters in, but no oil filters. She also said, "With things how they are in the world right now, I have no idea when we'll actually get our oil filter order."

I'm at 1,700 miles now. If my oil filter doesn't arrive by the time I get to 5,000 miles I'll start calling dealers around here to try and find one somewhere.

Well. I got a fuel filter I didnt order. A oil filter and cover each separate. Im guessing it's the 2nd gen. So it would work.

So I emailed them and they asked if I wanted to keep my order open and didnt say anything about the stuff they sent me so I dunno.

It's so small for a diesel engine! My wife said it was "cute". Hard to believe this thing lists for $92.

has anyone been able to compare the Gen 2 cartridge (PN 68229402AA) to this one? the Gen 2 is the one used in the retro kit and cross refs to WIX
WL10060 that can be purchased for $20.

Somebody on a forum (can't remember where I saw it) took apart a Gen 3 oil filter even though it is stamped "DO NOT REMOVE" just to see what's inside. He concluded that the oil passage way is created very differently on the Gen 3 filter, so, retro-fitting a Gen 2 filter might not be healthy for the engine.

To me, it's completely asinine to make every oil change require throwing a plastic cap into a landfill.

The filter you buy from mopar has “do not remove” printed on the cartridge, while the filter installed from the factory has directions to remove it from the housing. Simply pull and turn clockwise. To reinstall the cartridge you simply push and turn counterclockwise.

This is very interesting! Especially when you consider that the dealer charges the full $92 list price even though they're only changing the filter element inside. So the next obvious question is, can the general public purchase only the filter?

I’m sure we will see the cartridge itself available for a much lower price, but with no competition and shortages in supply I think it’ll be a while.

The filters did arrive today. Would love to know who came up with this design. Yhe
Mopar PN 68229402AA) is the Gen 2 cartridge and the one used in the retro kit. It cross refs to WIX
WL10060 that can be purchased for $20. I guess when you change these out keep the canister bottom so it can be reused with the new cartridges when its sorted out. my guess is that the Gen 2 cartridge can be used..

I tried to twist and remove the filter element from the cap. No luck. It's clearly not designed to be removed. I could have twisted harder to remove it, but risk breaking a $45 part I just waited a month to get.

I'm pretty sure the upper part of the filter isn't the same as Gen 2, but I'm not going to be the Guinea pig.
