I’m not ready to jump ship. I agree they need a fair shot at making it right which will take time. I’m just going to escalate the issue as best I can so if others are having the issue maybe it will be easier for them to have it handled. I’m encouraged your dealer was aware of this. The more awareness the better, hence my creation of this thread.

I for one appreciate it. I took your advice and decided to contact the dealer. They said they are aware.. So Im in holding pattern. I always appreciate those willing to take the time to work on trying to get issues fixed. It takes time it takes effort and it takes patience and it takes a good dealer you trust. I hope it gets worked out. Im at a high percentage of confidence that it will.

UPDATE: Heard from my dealership today. They have reached out to FCA to try and get something going on this as they have already had other trucks back for service for the same issue.

I have opened a case with Chrysler and should be assigned a case manager within 24 hrs. I am going to bat for everyone having this issue to try and reach a resolution. Dealership says they are confident the issue is with the rack and pinion and believe a redesign of the rack assembly is needed to correct the problem. Will update after speaking with a case manager.

Thank you for the updates, I have been following this thread for two months now. I did want to ask what was the build date on your truck? I purchased a Laramie 4x2 back at the end of June the issue started for me immediately! At the time no one could tell what the issues truly was and or how to fix it. I am really interested in knowing what your rep says once you make contact. I thought maybe I was the only one because at the time I could not find anyone with this issue anywhere. A redesign is a major overhaul and not sure what that would mean for us having the issue and or what that would mean period for the truck. Things like when would the redesign be complete, ready for install, tested? etc. Crazy to think about it all honestly especially seeing that there is still a note to pay on a $50k+ truck.

I dropped my truck off tonight ( 2nd time for this issue) left them a laundry list of all the crap wrong with it ( clunk, AC sucks, centre console squeak, and fuel economy modes messed up)
I told them about the number of people having issues online and they nearly laughed, the comment was there are 50,000 of these trucks on the road and 5 people complaining. I said perhaps but everyone complaining is having the EXACT same issue with the EXACT same symptoms, same with the AC and centre console. My salesman isn't to happy either.

We'll see what happens, I'll post as soon as I know anything, or don't know anything.

I also private messaged Ram Cares on here because they said they were going to do something for me and they never got back to me, Go Figure.

I still have the issue also. I’ll be going in soon for a cup holder replacement and will take the mechanic on a ride this time. He wasn’t able to hear it the last time because the advisor didn’t explain it correctly. Mine isn’t all the time but it’s there. I believe there will be a TSB.....at least I hope because I love this truck and I freaking ordered it how I wanted it.

I guess the good news for us with the 2019 trucks is the 18s will end production soon and all the trucks sold will be 19 models. That will force FCA to deal with these issues or it will cost them dearly in sales.

Ask the mechanic about the possibility of it being the U Joint on the intermediate steering shaft making the clunk. My guys insist it’s the rack and pinion but I’m not so sure. I’ve gotten the rack replaced, no go. I’m hoping someone can swap steering shafts and see if we have any luck with that.

Off this exact topic: Exactly what is a STAR case and when should we be asking for our problems to be elevated to one?
a STAR case is opened by dealerships that when they cannot fix or solve a vehicle's problem and need an FCA engineer to get involved to figure out a solution for your vehicle.

Thanks. Yep this is sounding like one of those cases...

Well, drove the truck last night and the clunk has returned. Did it several times. Usually happens on low speed turns near full-lock of the wheel. I’ve already got a call into the dealer. My service advisor has already uttered the words “buy back.” I really hope it doesn’t come to that. I love my truck but am super disappointed in this issue that we are having a tough time resolving.

Anybody have any updates on their trucks? I know several of you were going in for service for this issue.

Are you planning on working with your dealer again? I can escalate your inquiry to a Case Specialist who'll work with you, the dealer, and STAR toward a potential solution. Send me your VIN in a direct message if this is of interest.

Got a call today that my dealer heard a small noise but everything is tight, their top mechanic says it can't be the rack and pinion because younwould feel it in the steering wheel. They want me to go for a ride with them. They said AC works fine also, it takes nearly a minute to get cold, the rental jeep I'm in takes 6 seconds, I timed it.

I concur on the rack and pinion. I’m thinking that’s not it either. I just crawled up under mine and took a look at the intermediate shaft. Seems very small for such a big vehicle. If you can, ask them about replacing the intermediate shaft. Wondering if there was a bad batch of them that made it to the assembly line.

I'll look into it, I think I'm going to stick a go pro under the truck and move it a lot and see if I can pin point something happening. The service advisor changed his tune in the phone when I told him I was a Licensed Mechanic (Heavy Equipment) by trade and i wasn't just dreaming this noise up. I said it costs me 30 bucks a day in payments so every day they have it is a bunch of money I'm paying for F*** all.

I think a huge part of the problem in my case is that the advisors aren't relaying exactly what I'm telling them to the mechanics. I spoke with the mechanic working on my truck and everything I told him about the clunk, AC and fuel economy modes was a surprise to him, I told him the exact same things I told the service advisor.
