I’ve owned my 2019 Ram 1500 for about a week now and I don’t like the performance. Transmission hesitation and something feels like a kick in the back when stopping. Also does the miles per gallon get better?

Yes miles per gallon do get better. Did you drive any other new Rams, or just the one you purchased?

This is one of the best transmissions on the market IMO. Maybe you’re not used to trucks? Otherwise it’s possible something is wrong with yours. MPG tends to get better but that depends on your model, tires, etc.

I’d suggest going and driving another one to see if it’s your truck specifically.

I have driven other new rams but only for a short test drive. I don’t recall all of the hesitation.

I’d take it to the dealer if you have any concerns. The transmission does take a bit of time to “learn” your driving style (with something like 48 different shift maps), but the “jerkiness” when stopping could also be a driveshaft or rear differential issue. It doesn’t hurt to do a “ride along” with a mechanic and demonstrate your issues.

For comparison, what were you driving before?

Theres posts and threada about trannybumps both upshifting and down, “learning” or a reflash would be the first 2 things.

As far as mileage, usually that varies by all the normal factors, however I will say that since a family member bought essentially the same truck last week, with a build date mid-March, he is only seeing 13 mixed with a couple hundred miles on it. I had 17 mpg at about the same point so there seems to be engine variances. (Both of our driving styles are similar so thats not the issue).

Yeah, it's a 6000+ pound truck, it's just not gonna perform like a 3800 pound car. I do agree with what was said above though, this transmission is silky smooth compared to the competition.
As far as mileage, my 4x4 Laramie is averaging about 17.5 mixed city/ highway driving.

Hey kevin1914,

Sorry to hear your sentiments expressed here. Should you continue to experience this transmission hesitation and you decide to have your dealer address it, we would be happy to add an additional layer of assistance to this process. We’re just a private message away.

I am assuming you have the Hemi v8, you will need to keep your foot out of it. and learn to ease into it.. I drive all kinds of ways, and still get over 17 mpg mixed driving.. while cruising, try the cruise control, I get better when my foot is not trying to compensate...

Hopefully this isn’t a transmission issue. I bought this vehicle 6 days ago. I’d definitely explore options to return this vehicle

You’re being a tad dramatic, And if there is some sort of trans issue, it will get fixed. You can’t return a car like a pair of pants. Are you in 2wd or 4wd auto? I have zero issues in 2wd but notice a little bit more jumping in 4wd auto.

I’m not being dramatic dude lol. Yes, I’m driving in 2wD. I hope it works out for i really love everything else about the truck.

You are, talking about returning a truck without even knowing if something is up, not to mention you can’t return a vehicle but that’s besides the point. Take it to your dealer and have them figure it out.

My truck has 200 miles and the display is showing 18.6 mpg average. Thats mostly highway though
