Fingers Crossed...Brake Squeal Resolved

Following this thread...my Limited is at dealer getting the steer box replaced at 17K miles and service manager said they replaced the pads for free. If I get the truck back tomorrow and the have to argue to have the calipers and rotors repaired due to the problem persisting then this will be my first and last Ram.

Hi Axedawg,
If this concern persists once your dealer has attempted to address it, please send our team a private message. We would be happy to get you connected with a Case Specialist to assist.

How's everyone's brakes who had the new pads installed?
i did and it didn't help, still makes the same noise, and now the brakes squeal when applied while driving. I waited 6 months for my parts and it didn't make a diferences when backing up. Only added an additional noise when driving and brakes applied. Im so tried of calling the dealership, I give up. I'll never buy a RAM again... This is my 3rd new purchase. I called the manufacturer customer service and they were no help either!

They had it in a file kept on the servicer desk for six months.

I'll be taking my truck back in this week for the brake squeal while they change the oil. I don't have time to take it every time they start squealing, but I might start doing that until they fix it. I tried to help them last time with TSB information but they seemed offended that I even brought it up. So this time I'll just let them "fix" it and see how it goes.

RAM CARES, do you want me to PM you NOW or after I get my truck back and the brakes start squealing again?

I’m now getting a squeal with light braking below 40 mph or so (8000 miles). It seems to occur mostly in hot ambient temps and when the truck is dusty/dirty. I’m keeping an eye on this and will inform my service advisor.
I had my truck in last week for another issue. I mentioned the rear brake squeal to my service advisor, and he said he had just done the TSB (which I didn’t mention) on another truck. So while they had mine, they performed the repairs in the TSB (pads, brackets). So far, so good...but I’ve only driven it home, and I haven’t yet received paperwork on the repair (I had to pick it up before they had the documentation completed).

It won’t help, mine has had pads and brackets replaced once for sure possibly twice, it’s hard to say at this point, but the problem has never gone away and is now progressively getting worse

Did it quiet down for a short time and then come back? Because mine has been quiet thus far. Thanks.

Yes, it was quiet for a while then progressively got worse. Now it does it 9/10 times first thing in the morning and 50% of the time all day long.

Hi Jceresa,

Please keep us updated on how your appointment goes. If we can be of any additional assistance while your truck is in service, we'd be happy to help. We're just a PM away.

Mark, I went back to my service manger with copies of the front report, he gave it to his mechanic who said it did pertain to my vehicle. They replaced front pads only this time. I have been driving for a few days and a couple of highway trips. I am glad to report currently there is NO SQUEAL!
I am hoping the issue is permanently resolved. It seems that both front and rear brakes squeal. I think RAM needs to do a recall for future owners. Will keep you posted if the squeal returns.

Thank you for the follow up, Jceresa. I'm thrilled to hear this! If you notice this concern returns, please do not hesitate to reach back out to our team here. We are just a private message away and more than happy to continue assisting.

I've also had mine in the shop 4 times, pads first time, was good for 1500 miles. Left front caliper and was good for 2k miles. Now it's the right front and doesn't do it all the time so last couple times they said can't duplicate the noise but I leave dealership and it does it before I get home.

I think (praying and crossing fingers) that the brake squeal on my truck has been resolved, once and for all, after 4 times to the dealer.

I had the same brake squealing that A LOT of people have been complaining about. Typically happened with light press of the brake going between 45-70 mph, but there was also plenty of other times it made noise outside those conditions. For whatever reason mine seemed to be the loudest the hotter and dryer it was outside.

The first trip to the dealership there was a lot of brake dust so they just cleaned the rotors and pads, and bedded the brakes. They drove it, but didn't hear the sound after that. Naturally, on my way home they started squealing.

The second trip to the dealership they resurfaced the rotors and scuffed up the pads to get rid of any glazing, and bedded them again. Again when they drove it afterwards they said they didn't hear any noise. However, the brakes squealed on the way home from the dealership.

The third trip to the dealership they were squealing loud, but they thought it was the rear brakes. They got Ram to send new rotors and pads to replace the rear brakes. They bedded the brakes, didn't hear any noise, but again I heard the noise on my drive home.

I always thought the sound was from the front passenger brake, but a friend thought it was the rear, so when they thought it was the rear, I assumed they knew what they were talking about. Once the sound continued after the rears were replaced, I pushed them to replace the front pads and rotors.

I saw on this site and others that there were new brake pads that Ram was starting to use, so I showed the picture of the difference in pads to the service department. They were unaware of the change in pads, so they contacted Ram and they sent them new rotors and pads for the front.

They were replaced on Friday, and so far no noise. I've driven several places where they would squeal almost 100% of the time, and no noise. I have less than 100 miles on them, so time will tell, but the more I drive with them the more confident I get that the new pads/rotors have resolved the issue.

For those that have the noise, don't let the dealer tell you it's normal. I know some brake noise is normal, but this noise was not normal. I've attached the picture that I got from this site that I showed my service department (thank you for whoever originally posted it).

mine make the groan when back downhill (out of driveway) after rain or snow.. makes the squeal when braking sometimes, figured I will fix it when I change the pads... if there are after market pads avail.

i just had my pads replaced left side front and back no noise yet. Its only been a couple days so hopefully no more squelling

My dealer finally got my parts in after an almost 6 month wait. Not sure I will even get it done now that others are experiencing the same issue with the new parts. I can handle the noise while backing up as it only does once in the morning if the truck was wet the night before. I can't handle squealing brakes at every stop though.

This is my 3rd, maybe 4th post... I've dealt with being told the issue can't be duplicated in December 2018, replacement of the front calipers, and now most recently, a Ram Specialist "escalating my case" and having my rotors turned and new pads installed. The squeal has gone from driver's side, to passenger side, and now back to driver's side. My dealer is also now claiming that because my truck has oversized aftermarket wheels, there is nothing they can do further. Here's the kicker.....they're selling 1500's off the lot with aftermarket wheels and tires. I asked if one of those came back with a brake squeal issue, would they be told the same as me? No response as of yet....

I like the truck a lot. Other systems appear to be working fine, but this damn brake squealing issue has me going nuts. May require legal assistance or maybe an insurance claim for resolution.

Crazy to see so many others finally reporting the issue and there has yet to be a recall....
