Wonder if people haven issue with them running to high of psi?

I have a friend that always runs the max psi the tires say on the sidewall. I tried to explain to him that’s just the max not what he should run. But he’s a hard headed person.

Yikes! Did he ever have tire issues? I’m surprised one didn’t explode while he was rolling down the highway.

He did complain they wore bad. Lol. But the truck sat a lot. So they pretty much would rot before they worn out.

The aftermarket wild peak is much better than the oem version. 295/70r18 put on factory wheels today. The extra weight is in the sidewalls and the tread is deeper than most. 5FCF8439-230E-4F28-B5ED-732B7449CF9F.jpeg

I love the Wildpeak AT3Ws on my truck.

The OEM AT3W 275/55R20 were good, but I wanted more. So, at ~6,000 miles, I ordered new rims (black rhino duggers) and Falken Wildpeak AT3W in 275/65R20. The tread depth is fantastic. I like the ride. It was ever so little harsher than OEM, but it was still amazingly soft for an LT tire. Oh, they also looked great. ;)

Road noise was just a little louder than the OEM, but still kept my truck far quieter than the interior of my friends' trucks.

However, I could not solve a slight scrape from the front left when in a 1/2 left turn, downhill, and braking. Since that's how I enter my driveway, I'm guaranteed to get it at least once per drive. ;)

I am swapping DOWN to a 275/60R20, still a Falken Wildpeak AT3W. I'll put them on the truck this Thursday.

Now, I don't have a truck to get good mileage, so this is just a datapoint: the OEM, when trying my best, I'd get 30+ MPG. (C'mon, it's a diesel with 3.21.) With the 275/65s, my best was 23 or so.

The 275/60s come in two versions: an LT and an SL. The LT has a load rating of 116; the SL is 115, or 2755 lbs vs. 2679 lbs. The LT gains 76 lbs of load (and a tougher sidewall and 18/32" tread vs. 13/32" tread) but at a weight penalty of 58.2 lbs to 47.8 lbs.

I went with the SL version of the 275/60s. (Truck is spec'ed for 113T load rated tires, so the SL is higher rated than needed and than the OEM tire.)

They’re great tires but I just can’t get the thought of a lift out of my mind and I think 33”s would look too small. This would be in Fort Worth TX. It is also worth noting, for people interested in these tires sake. I emailed Falken asking about the deeper tread of the LT tire vs the higher silica compound in the SL tire, this is the response I got.


"Thank you for your inquiry! In regard to your question, there will be visual difference between the LT and P see 275/60R20. First off, the LTs will appear much deeper and "taller" than the P size. While all sizes have some % of silica, the P will contain about 20% more to make up for the lesser starting tread depth. Some things to consider would be how you would be using the truck and whether it would dictate the move to an LT over a P size."

We do not need LT tires on our 1/2 tons unless again unless for some reason you are really pullinr heavy or overloading. Air up the p metric tires to their max and you do very well. And do not be fooled, adding the weight of LT tires ALWAYS affects MPG and performance and ride. Thats the nature of the beast. Everyone gets so hung up on having 10 ply tires. To each his own.

The problem is when you lift your truck you want bigger tires and if you go 35” there are not much offerings other than LT tires.

I only have a 2” level and still on 275/55R20 but they are XL load (Falken Wildpeak AT3W). And they ride great. But I am looking to go up a size to eat up some of this wheel well gap.

I only have a 2” level and still on 275/55R20 but they are XL load (Falken Wildpeak AT3W). And they ride great. But I am looking to go up a size to eat up some of this wheel well gap.

You could go with the 275/60r20 still a P tire. That's what I'll be doing, I can't justify the mpg loss for looks on my kid hauler lol

I may go up to a “D rated” tire which the Wildpeak have in a 275/60R20

I had to replace my rear tires at ~24K. Even running them "soft" they still wore out the centers before the edges. (I towed a lot, but very seldom loaded the truck down.)
I replaced them with the OEM Wildpeaks. My tire guy even had them a few bucks cheaper than Tire Rack.
I never get 24K out of tires, the way I drive, so I was not terribly unhappy. I like the way they stuck, and I like the way they rode. No sense in changing.

Over inflated tires wears the centers and maybe towing? Also, we’re they ever rotated, I have mine rotated every 5000 miles with my oil change! Mine are all wearing on outer edges, inflate to rated 36 psi at all times!
