Exhaust Manifold Options

Dorman offers an updated design at a decent price.

That exaust manifold looks interesting. I hope they work out.

The factory manifolds have the load bars in the bolts. Now instead of breaking bolts, the manifolds themselves crack.
My manifolds were cracked, and the bolts were broken again for the 3rd time in 3-years. I ended up buying the BD manifolds and they are awesome. They are impressively built and significantly beefier with uniform thickness at all points. I am sure these will not be breaking on me.

Has anyone installed the BD manifolds on only one side without upgrading the other? I confirmed my passenger side is cracked on my 2020 with 64K miles tonight. The driver’s side is fine. Have our first baby coming in the next three weeks and not looking to spend more than necessary if I can avoid it. At the same time if the BD replacements are better I would rather buy for the one side and hopefully not have to replace the passenger side again. Otherwise I will be scrounging for an OEM replacement online, unless the allocation/supply chain issues have been resolved.View attachment 199930
I just installed the BD manifolds on my truck last night. They are insanely beefier and so much better built

Hi all,

Just purchased a 2019 Ram 1500 with the Hemi 5.7, and it has an exhaust leak (manifold). From what I've read this is fairly common, and likely to happen again with the stock parts every 30k miles (give or take). I'm currently still waiting for the dealer to get the parts in for repair (free of charge), but just curious what options are out there.

  1. Would these be the same as the original, or does 'performance' indicate it's an upgraded part?
  2. While I'm likely to let the dealer handle it this time, if I have to do it again down the road and want to keep the truck, what's the best upgraded option to avoid this problem again (or does one exists)?
Thanks in advance, I'm totally unfamiliar with these trucks/engines so learning on the fly.
Get BD Diesel. I just did mine this past weekend. Quality is so much better than stock.

That said, mine manifold had 10 bolts, and had two metal bars across the top and bottom bolts that acted like a spacer, similar to what BD does with each individual bolt, but they use a thick washer. I found that interesting because it seems that they were aware of the problem and tried to correct it. And all the videos I watched online showing the swap, not one had that metal bar across the top/bottom bolts

All 5th gens should have that bar. It was added after all the issues with the 4th gens and broken bolts.

Does anyone have hands on experience with the Dorman? I typically associate them with junk but willing to be corrected if others have better experience / knowledge. Think it is ridiculous this still happens given the maturity of this engine design.

I have installed a few sets. They are definitely an upgrade. Some early production had the wrong bolts in the kits. The bolts were not long enough, that should be taken care of now.
