eTorque Bearing Replacement, Fixed Grinding Noise

I was able to successfully replace the part. The truck starts and sounds great. However, its still not charging the battery beyond 12V so the moment you hit the brakes, use a turn signal or a fan kicks on, the truck begins a downward spiral until it dies. I put in a new 12V battery because it still had the original battery from 2019 but that wasn't the problem. The dealer is saying its the MGU and I'm sure it is. I'm just wondering does it need to be recalibrated or flashed? Maybe it made changes in the computer to account for the poor performance that needs to be wiped?

Apologies for the dual post. It won't let me add on to my previous post. For timeline purposes, the service department did order a replacement today and requested the vehicle be placed on the VOR (vehicle off road) list. I will update this thread if the VOR part arrives before the replacement I already ordered August 26, 2025.

Thanks for posting this.
That's the main thing that I was concerned with too by replacing the bearing as I know it'll fix the noise, but wasn't sure if it'll fix the charging issue.

Were you able to replace both front and rear bearings or just the one?
I had an improvement in charging but still have an occasional whine that I think is from the front bearing...still haven't been able to replace that one.

Its sad that this was your only option due to Stellantis incompetence ..Mine failed but not the bearing noise, it stopped charging. Took 9 weeks of calling customer nonservice to get a replacement MGU. Working fine now tho

Hi everyone, long time stalker, first time poster. I have the dreaded MGU failure and as of today its been at dealer for 66 days. I am on the fence about pulling it and doing the bearing replacement for one reason. I did not hear any whining or grinding noise with mine. I was driving and the check engine light came on and I had an immediate but subtle loss of power, like 1500rpms, multiple people in the truck did not feel it but as the driver and owner we all know our vehicles. I made a few small trips, around 10 miles each before the battery warning came on. My question is, is it always the bearings going or could I have another problem? I hate to pull it off the dealer lot, get it all torn apart just to find its not the bearings that are bad and then its gotta go back to dealer. Just looking for everyones thoughts. As of now the dealer has no date available

It could be the windings if there was a bearing failure, but if you heard no indication of the bearing issue, it could be the Hybrid Control Processor (HCP) Module. That is the item on the top of the MGU, and may be able to be found separate from the complete MGU. I have seen the lower generator part separate on E bay, so you might be able to find the controller separately.

The Ram 1500 Hybrid Control Processor (HCP) module is a key computer that manages the eTorque mild-hybrid system in specific models, controlling the Motor-Generator Unit (MGU) and other related functions. It is often updated via software flashes, as recommended in Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) and recalls, to fix issues such as transmission problems, rough idling, and engine stall. A common procedure for technicians is to use a scan tool to check the current software version and, if necessary, update the HCP and Auxiliary Hybrid Control Processor (AHCP) to the latest version to address reported symptoms.

My 2020 has gone to the dreaded dealership Etorque graveyard 😂 dropped it off last Tuesday morning (10/21/25) it was grinding so bad you could feel it by putting your hand on the top of the unit 🤦🏻‍♂️. Talked to them today they are supposed to get the replacement in on 11/12/25 what a crap show.

Thanks for the reply, I was on my way down to ask them to pull the MGU and they called saying the new MGU was in. I figured I'd tear it apart and check the bearings and if that wasnt it, well then they would have done half the job.

If it's warranty work they will send it to FCA to prove they did the work. Been there, done that.
