Does Cold Air Intakes make a difference?

I completely understand you can insert the cover, but should you? Im not sure because I don't have the instructions in front me, but I'm almost sure they recommend leaving it out for 90% of the USA. I could be wrong I do remember wanting to put it in but didn't because it wasn't recommended. You may be in an area that it is okay, idk
I would get more air if I had the cover off but it would be warm air from the engine compartment. It's really up to the individual whether you put it on or leave it off.

I just went with what S&B recommended. Id prefer to have it in but not if cant supply enough air. If I had known before hand I may have done something different.
If it was a waste of money than, oh well. In my lifetime this is just a small blip compared to some really bad decision making in the past.

When to use the Box Plug?

Stock intake boxes are a significant contributor to poor air flow which is why S&B designs custom air boxes with secondary and/or enlarged openings. With that said, S&B recognizes the benefits of cooler air, so we have included a plug to seal off the opening if desired. For optimal performance, we recommend that the intake be used without the box plug, except in conditions of extreme heatwave.

The oem would be better because the S&B gets some its air from the engine bay. I'd have a hard time believing air flow of the oem is better than an S&B and it looks way better. If you add one to your truck it'll only compliment what other performance marts in the future. Is it worth $350... no not by itself. There are very few situations improving air flow in and out impacts an engine negatively.
probably the best bang for the buck with no other mods is the banks petal monster. my vote is take that the CAI money and just get the banks monster it cost less and will have a more effect.
intake, exhaust, tune if you pick up 50hp that would be huge and the cost for that is kinda pricy so i just rock stock now.
