Does Cold Air Intakes make a difference?

I put a CAI on my 2008 Ram, mostly…because at that time I had a buddy working for Mopar and got me a really good deal on the setup.
I wish I would’ve left it stock.
Even on the 2008…yes, it sounded kinda cool, but what I didn’t foresee is when MDS kicked in, it was noticeably louder without the full airbox.
Now, that’s not Gen 5…so things could potentially be different, but the possibility of that reason alone, I left my 2015 airbox stock and have no intentions of doing anything to my current 23.

I went with the S & B, It might be a little more peppy but it sounds better. The thing I like the most is you open the hood and it's right there if it's dirty you will see it where the stock one is out of sight
I as well went with a S&B except I went with the white filter. How do you like the red one? My white one is turning pretty dirty so I will need to replace it soon.

Horsepower, for the most part no...sound..yes.

It's funny that people never get a before and after dyno on their own vehicle with just an intake change. My guess is because there would show zero difference.

Hey for what its worth I have the S&B on my Wrangler for years (the white filter is the dry filter, the red is the oiled). I replace it about every 2 years, which seems to be doing fine.

It’s probably because they’re wasting enough money on the intake without throwing away more to pay someone to dyno it. :ROFLMAO:

That and most people have never dyno'd anything :)

Although I disagree with wasting money, intakes absolutely make a vehicle sound better.

Especially when you can grab $1100 OEM RAM intake used for $350 and just clean to new condition :cool:

I think anytime you increase air flow in and exhaust out its beneficial to the engine in general. I have an S@B intake and a 3 inch flowmaster exhaust and I did it all at one time. I don't think I gained 30 HP, but it did become more responsive and sounds amazing. If I did it again I might do something different with the intake, but I don't regret any of it and I'd do it again.

it's already a cold air intake. it get's air from outside the engine compartment. just sayin....
The oem would be better because the S&B gets some its air from the engine bay. I'd have a hard time believing air flow of the oem is better than an S&B and it looks way better. If you add one to your truck it'll only compliment what other performance marts in the future. Is it worth $350... no not by itself. There are very few situations improving air flow in and out impacts an engine negatively.

The S & B has a cover that you can have on or off on the side, I have mine on so it only gets air from the front like the OEM box not from the engine bay.

The Mopar "Ram Airflow" Cold Air Intake (CAI) system for the Ram 1500 is designed to draw air from the front of the vehicle, specifically from behind the cooling module. This positioning allows it to pull in cooler, denser outside air rather than the warmer air found under the hood near the engine bay. The system uses a directional cone filter to funnel this air directly into the intake manifold, optimizing airflow for improved engine performance. This design enhances combustion efficiency by providing a steady flow of fresh, oxygen-rich air to the engine, such as the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 found in compatible Ram 1500 models.

Did you let AI write that? My goodness.

I completely understand you can insert the cover, but should you? Im not sure because I don't have the instructions in front me, but I'm almost sure they recommend leaving it out for 90% of the USA. I could be wrong I do remember wanting to put it in but didn't because it wasn't recommended. You may be in an area that it is okay, idk
