Sorry for the slow response. My dealer hasn’t found the problem after a couple of tries, so I’m going to take it to a different dealership after the first of the year. Did your dealer find a solution?
Nothing yet. They told me to quit using the steps. Still hoping a solution is found somewhere.

So I ran into the same issue on my brand new 2020 Sport. I went to take the dog out last night and noticed the dash light was on with the "put foot on brake and press start button" or whatever message was showing. I didn't have the keyfob on me so I was a little surprised to see it. I then touched the door handle (still with no key) and the 12" uconnect screen started to glow but it was all black. The usb ports also started glowing. I went inside, grabbed the key and started the truck, left it in park, and turned it off again. Locked it, went inside and watched form the window. It eventually went off but this is definitely concerning, especially if I'm travelling and come out of a hotel room to a dead truck... I don't electronic side steps so I don't think it has anything to do with a certain sequence like the other posts. Wondering if anyone has resolved this issue?

Is it possible that Uconnect was downloading new software?

Best regards,

I am not sure, I guess it's a possibility. Does the software show a "last update" tag?

We certainly understand why this would be concerning. Please let us know via private message if you decide to have your dealer look into this. We would like to have this documented and have a case escalated on your behalf so a Case Specialist can work with your dealer to help find a potential solution.

Good luck, been through 12 jumpstarts, 2 OEM batteries in a year, dealer found nothing and charged me $130 to diagnose nothing on a warranteed truck. FCA did nothing.

Had the same problem with my 2016 2500, did a lot of research and a another post pointed out the underhood light switch, disconnected it and haven’t had a problem since... Called the dealership to ask about it, their mechanic stated it was a known problem and to keep it disconnected as there wasn’t a fix for it.

I finally determined the cause on my truck. I usually deploy the side steps when I come home at the end of the day in the following sequence: put the truck in park, deploy side steps using the Uconnect icon, then turn the ignition off. No problem UNLESS my wife is with me. Then the sequence is: put the truck in park, she opens her door, deploy side steps using the Uconnect icon, then turn the ignition off. Every time that happens, “Press Brake and Push Button to Start” displays and the 12” Uconnect is blank but lit and will not go out until I start the truck and put it in gear.

I plan to contact my dealer but I wanted to put this out there in case it might help someone until there’s a fix.
HO LEE CHIT! My battery has died at least 4 times in the past year and this 100% explains it. Each time it died was after a long trip with the family and I manually deployed the running boards for loading/unloading. The battery was just replaced with a bad cell so I had hoped that would fix it but about a week later... dead again. A few nights ago I happened to notice lights on in my truck. Went outside to check on it and the back light in the dash and infotainment screen would not got off. Tried pulling fuses and eventually pulled the battery cable. Found this thread that night and realized this has to be it.

I tried to reproduce it and here is the sequence I found that triggers the problem:
  1. Trucked parked and running
  2. Passenger opens the door and running board deploys
  3. Passenger closes the door and running board retracts
  4. While board is retracting press the "Deploy" button from the control menu
  5. Turn off truck
At this point, the dashboard screen will not go off. It may have the message displayed for starting the truck but if you lock the doors then walkaway and come back later it will still be on. The message may disappear but the back light will not go off. It sounds like a software problem where the code expects the board to complete the retraction but never does because the user forced the deploy.

I tried several other sequences (e.g. deploy while passenger door is open, deploy then passenger opens door) but the above sequence was the only one that caused the problem. I think it will also happen if you open the driver's door, then closed it, and press deploy button while its retracting but that sequence should be pretty rare.

I may make a new post with this info so others may be able to find it. I seriously doubt it has been fixed since this is software in the ECU that would have to be fixed.

“Press brake and push button to start” won’t turn off!
I have a new 2022 RAM 3500 Cummins with less than 900 miles. I notice tonight that there was some light coming from the dash. I did not have the key fob on me. I checked all the doors to make sure they were closed. I restarted the truck drove it around the neighborhood, placed it in park multiple times …. Still the dash is lit up with “Press brake and push button to start” won’t turn off! Anyone experienced this on their 2022 model and has a fix for the problem?

WasatchBack... did you or the dealership ever find a fix? Any updates? I'm having the same issues on my new 2022 RAM 3500.

Dealer blamed the Taser due to parasitic drain, though they admitted it didn't draw enough to cause a dead battery in 1 day as it was doing. Though I removed it and it has been fine since.

I have a 2019 Ram 2500 and I am having the same issue. It goes back to the dealership monday. Have you had any luck figuring out the problem?

I have a new 2022 Ram 1500 Bighorn I've only had for just over a month. I just noticed that the "Press Brake and Push Start Button" display goes off but then comes back on after about 10 second, then goes off, then comes back on, etc. I stood outside the truck with the key fob in the house, and it was still doing it! This morning I thought the engine started a little slow and now I know why. The battery is being drained over-night because of this issue. Any idea's?

2021 1500 Laramie, loaded to the gills including 12" UC and power steps, 5,000mi.

Same situation described above--side step manual deployment as well--dead dawg come mornin'.

I'll take it in tomorrow and will post back what/if any answer they offer. Don't expect much or wait for it. We had massive issues with our 2019 electronics which they never fixed over 20+ times in service.

Edit: For the record, I just tried some of the suggestions above while the vehicle is charging. Opened and closed all of the doors (waiting until the step had fully deployed and retracted each move). O&C the tailgate. Pressed the 'screen off' UC button.

Returned in 5 minutes without the key-fob, and the dash display and UC were off. I'm debating whether to waste my time taking the vehicle in, expecting "Well, we can't find it. Let us know if it happens again." My guess is--as suggested by others--this is just another of those things on a heavy accessory and electronics vehicle which makes it's brain go stupid. From our 2019 and unrelated issues with our 2020, I also suspect these will be more things they'll not address with current vehicles--IOW, you're SOL--and may or may not on subsequent years.

woke up to a dead battery, at least that seems to be the case.
this Sunday was the first time I noticed the same issue described here, dash wouldn't turn off.
After I noticed this I turned the truck back on and turn it back off again until dash turned off but I guess it kept happening randomly so this morning it seems to be completely drain. no lights, acc, no power at all.
For those that had dealers looking into the issue, were there any findings or just battery replacements.
I see here that some have even gone thru several batteries

Hey! I have a 2020 Dodge ram Classic. I'm having the exact same issue! Dealership is saying they've never seen it before. I'm glad I saw this thread! They had my truck for almost 3 months. I got it back last week, this morning I noticed that the cluster wasn't going to sleep.

I pulled the fuse (F49) and now it's going to sleep. I started the truck and everything appears to be running just fine. I'm going to have to go back to the dealership again.

This his to be some kind of recall? This is crazy.

Seems kinda crazed, this almost exact problem appeared with my 2021 Ram Limited Longhorn. over 43,000 miles. Outstanding truck todate. Some problem now with the side step store/deploy. Got everything to turn off, call dealer later. Sleep baby sleep...LOL

Mine did that once a couple of weeks ago but hasn’t done it since. I had had the switch in ACC mode prior to that, and that’s about the only thing I can think of that may have caused it. I tried to start it and shut it down, open and close all the doors and put the fob in the house. It was still lit the next morning but at least the battery wasn’t dead.
Just had the same problem. Was towed to dealer who replaced start button. Home now with same problem. Frustrated. Let me know if anyone figures it out.
