Dash won’t turn off

I had my fiirst serious issue with my Longhorn. The dash would not turn off last night. The center LED display was lit with “Press Brake and Push Button to Start” and the 12” Uconnect was blank but lit even though car was off and locked.. I drove the vehicle again and shut off but the dash would still not go out. I thought maybe there is a long timer before it goes off but there isn’t as the battery was dead this morning.

After I jumped the truck, it hasn’t happened again. Has anyone experienced this? I’m concerned about this issue as it can obviously leave you stranded.

I thought I had the same issue but, checked all the doors. Opened and closed the drivers door. Watched the truck for a while and after about 5 min it shut down. I have not had the problem since. Has yours quit doing it?

I am a Subaru technician for a living. Sometimes when we get a random electrical glitch the first thing to try is a capacitive discharge. It just involves disconnecting the + and - battery terminals and holding them together for about 15 20 seconds.

Make sure there are no key fobs close to the truck. It may "sense" them and is ready to start. You can also try and lock your doors to see if it shuts off.

Good point. I wonder if my screen stayed on cause I was standing next to the truck. In review it didn't go off till I walked away and watched it for a minute from my porch about 30' away.

Mine stayed on for 5 or so minutes (once) when the truck was pretty new well after I had shut it off. Opens and closed the doors and walked away with the key. It eventually shut itself off and never did that again.

Mine did that once a couple of weeks ago but hasn’t done it since. I had had the switch in ACC mode prior to that, and that’s about the only thing I can think of that may have caused it. I tried to start it and shut it down, open and close all the doors and put the fob in the house. It was still lit the next morning but at least the battery wasn’t dead.

I had this same exact problem (along with several others) except it continually would happen. I’d go in the house and notice a few minutes later all the lights were on and they would stay on until the battery went dead. Took it to the dealer without even owning it for 24 hours! They had it for a week and said it was fixed. Got home still had the issue. Took it back. They had it for 28 days. Replaced the stereo and said that would fix it. Nope. Now that the stereo unit has been replaced the truck has many more multiple issues. They can’t figure out what is wrong with it and have now decided to just buy it back. So disappointed.

The ota software upgrade happened yesterday on my truck. I just noticed the dash lights were on several hours after the last time I drove it. Again. Apparently that problem was not fixed by the upgrade. I was able to get them to turn off only after starting the truck and putting it in gear., then shutting down again.

This may not be helpful but if it were happening to mine I would be suspect of a setting, knob, or button that was telling the dash lights to stay on. What kills this theory is that some have reported that it doesn't happen all of the time.... That would lead me to look at the shut down procedure. Is it being done the exact same way each time and giving different results? Foot on the brake vs. foot off the brake at power down for instance? My OCD wants to go through each setting and turn on and off each light though the whole truck to see if I could find the culprit.

One detail that makes me think it isn’t a setting: the 12” display glows but has no information on it. It looks like a tv that has no input. I’ve had the truck 2 months and have over 4,000 miles and this has only happened twice. I’m a creature of habit and follow pretty much the same procedure when I park in my garage at night. The annoying part of the problem is I have to check the it every night so I don’t wind up with a dead battery come morning,

Most of the suggestions, however, don't explain why the battery was down enough on Rammans vehicle to require a jump start. The vehicle computer should shut down any accessory items after 15 minutes, preventing the full drain of the battery. Maybe the ignition switch was left on in the Accessory position?

I like James1414 suggestion. Sometimes computers get 'confused' and require an internal reset.

I just stated to notice that I will occasionally find the rear cargo lamp illuminated after I leave the vehicle. I would then press the Cargo Lamp switch on the instrument panel and it would go out. During opening day of deer season as I was driving in the dark, I noticed the cargo lamp was on while driving. Again, I switched it off from the cab.

When I returned home and unloaded the ATV, the cargo lamp switched off after I closed the tailgate. The next day after I started the vehicle I noticed the Cargo Lamp Indication in the instrument cluster was illuminated, so using the switch on the dash I switched it off.

This pattern has not repeated itself, so I'm suspicious that I got the cargo lamp switch in the cab out of sync with the tailgate operation.

Regards,
Dusty

I finally determined the cause on my truck. I usually deploy the side steps when I come home at the end of the day in the following sequence: put the truck in park, deploy side steps using the Uconnect icon, then turn the ignition off. No problem UNLESS my wife is with me. Then the sequence is: put the truck in park, she opens her door, deploy side steps using the Uconnect icon, then turn the ignition off. Every time that happens, “Press Brake and Push Button to Start” displays and the 12” Uconnect is blank but lit and will not go out until I start the truck and put it in gear.

I plan to contact my dealer but I wanted to put this out there in case it might help someone until there’s a fix.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I started another thread regarding my 2 week old dead truck and suspected it was running board related as the only factor that changed was I left the running boards deployed overnight. After finally finding and reading your post I tried a similar sequence to yours and the truck fully powers down UNLESS the passenger door is used while the running boards are deployed, exactly as you described.

Did your delearship find a solution? I'm scheduled to take mine in on Monday.

Having this same issue. 2019 Rebel. Went through the shutdown procedure and got the “push brake and press start” message to turn off , but now the lights around the USB ports are staying on. Anyone have this twist to the issue?

I have the same intermittent issue that you described. The dealership didn’t know how to fix it, the technical support they had from FCA was no help, and Ramcares on this site doesn’t really care because I’m from Canada. What a joke, and what an embarrassment for the Ram brand!

End result is that I’m left with a new truck with a flaw that FCA doesn’t care enough to spend the time and money to find a fix. I now have to double check every time I lock it to make sure it properly powers down or I’ll come back to a dead battery.

Just in case the tone of this post didn’t come through clear enough, then let me clarify that I’m extremely frustrated.

I had this issue once a thousand miles or so into ownership. But I’m at 15k now and have not seen it again. Seemed like a very random glitch?

Sorry for the slow response. My dealer hasn’t found the problem after a couple of tries, so I’m going to take it to a different dealership after the first of the year. Did your dealer find a solution?
