Conflicting Oil Standards in Owners Manual

So after reading another thread on here about oil and looking in my owners manual, I have found the manual itself has conflicting information and likely needs to be corrected.
On page 369 it shows the first material standard MS-10902 as the standard. Then on page 370 it further reinforces that and also list She’ll Rotella as a recommended oil in 5w-40.
Now flip to page 424 and things get strange. It lists a different material standard MS-12991 with a recommended oil of Pennzoil Platinum EURO.
@RamCares care to clear this up?

I also am interested in clarification on this.
One spot in the diesel supplement even states Shell Rotella ms-10902 but API certification SN. As best I can tell, there is not an oil that exists meeting 5w-40 ms-10902 and is sn rated, they are all CJ-4/CK-4 if meeting ms-10902.

I checked every single oil on the shelf at Walmart yesterday, and none of them met the MS AND API ratings listed in the owners manual, regardless of which specification ends up being the correct one.

Why does this have to be so confusing?

I'd like to just buy Rotella T6 and roll on.....but can I?

Hi all,

I was able to receive further clarification on this. We recommend 5W-40 Synthetic engine oil such as Mopar or Penzoil Platinum Euro that meets FCA Material Standard MS-12991 - please refer to the chart on page 424.

Ahhhh.... so that's why the dealer quotes $250 for an oil change. They're using oil that exists nowhere except the dealer.

Sneaky.

I was able to find some at Advanced Auto Parts, it’s quarts only and $9.99 per.

It works out for when I buy a Ferrari, I will know where to get the oil.

I posted a question RE: following oil from Amazon brand. Several reviewers agreeing on the lines of "Distributed by Warren Distribution. They also distribute Mobil 1, STP, Super Tech, and many other quality brands of oil."

Not sure the quality of it - or if it meets MS-10902 standard - highly doubtful if it will be MS-12991 compliant. I posted a question with the MS- question and if its low-ash formulation.

I have bunch of Rotellla T6 left from my prior WRX/STi days - but want to keep warranty intact. Drive my truck gentle/highway, no towing or hard driving. Want to keep oil change interval sooner than recommended 10,000 miles - and to keep warranty intact. Wondering if Rotella T6 will suffice or should I hunt the MS12991.

Understand that 12991 is recommended, but dont really see if Rotella T6 is "advised against", "harmful", "going to void warranty" - etc.

Guys,

I have an Alfa Romeo Giulia QV with the V6 TT and I use this oil too. You can buy a 3 pack 5 quart jugs from Walmart for $80. It's the best and only place where it's reasonably priced. At least your oil filter doesn't cost $70.

The Pennzoil Platinum Euro posted above is not a diesel engine oil, correct? Diesel oils are formulated quite differently. Why did FCA spec this oil for a diesel engine? I'm still leery of this and I plan to stick with Rotella T6 until I get a good explanation.

Some excerpts from a rep at AMSOIL today. He's confused about why FCA would spec this oil for a diesel engine with DPF and SCR.

If you do your own oil changes, here’s a much better priced option for a Mopac OEM filter instead of purchasing from dealer. Diesel Filters Online Store

Yeah I think most of us are ordering from them. They're about half of the list price.
