Chirp/Squeak Noise

I have a chirp/squeak noise when i tap the brakes. Right front side and i have taken it to dealer 3 times. The third time, they said they replaced the front brakes and the noise went away for about a month and now its back.

I was told today the nose is coming from the rear break caliper and that they need to replace it... we'll see if this resolves my issue.

I had this on a '14 f150. I had my son jump up and down in the bed. It turned out to be a shock mount. Tightened that up and it was gone.

The noise or chirp is coming from the brake pad free floating on the anti-rattle clip. With light pressure applied, the play or float is eliminated so no noise. You'll also notice if you hit a few bumps, when you press the brake, you'll get a quick chirp, moving the pad.

I can't tell you how to fix it though :(. Mine has been in a few times for this. Some grease on the pad lobes at the clip helped for a few miles, then they replaced my pads and installed a new style anti-rattle clip that helped for a few miles and now they've replaced my calipers but that did not work. Not sure where they can go with it at this point until they figure out a new design.

I have a chirp from left side when going over 1" drops like delaminated missing pavement. I thought it was from front wheel area and I have Rebel with air suspension. I assumed maybe swaybar bushing squeaks. I only hear it if window down so figured it isn't a big deal as I hate to let dealers mess with it if not necessary. Truck is 13 months old with 6800 miles and hasn't been back to dealer yet. (changed oil myself) (there are recalls that I do need to address though)
I have a very similar issue on the same set up of Rebel w/ Air Suspension. Can't pin down it's origin.

Hi Mannyman,

I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing this concern again with your truck. If you decide to address it with your dealer again, please let us know via private message. We would be more than happy to provide you with an additional layer of assistance during that process.

Brake caliper was replaced and the test drive home sounded good... we shall see for how long though (fingers crossed it doesn't come back for me and you find resolution as well).

Not sure if this is the same are your issues... But here it goes:

Had a chirp as well, which dealer nailed about three months ago. It would occur driving or sitting still, engine on or off, specially when stepping on running boards to get in or out of the truck. When driving, it would manifest when going over potholes or speed bumps (but only hear with windows down). IT FRIGGIN DROVE ME CRAZY...

My truck is a March 2018 build, so they fixed the squeal last August by replacing rotors and re-engineered pads, but about 4 or 5 months later, I started to get the chirp/cricket noise I just described (not the squeal, that had been fixed).

Turns out there was a tiny amount of play between the new pads & calipers, which would cause the chirp.
Once they replaced with re-engineered calipers, the issue was fixed for good. Going on about three months now since they did this.

Again, not sure if this is the same, but thought I'd share just in case.

Hoping the caliper fix does the job!

Thanks for that info. So far they just replaced the pads and it went away for a bit. I’ll let my service writer know about what they did for you and hopefully that resolves my issue as well.

Here is a link to the video I posted on YouTube of my truck making the noise. Is this what you had ?

Yes, that's exactly it! There's a TSB out there for this and the culprit is the brake calipers! They either need to be replaced or lubed.

Yep, that’s it, but mine did it when the truck moved from getting in and out of the vehicle without having to drive or have the engine on, so I guess it was a little more sensitive (and noticeable since that was all I heard with the engine off).

Do you happen to have the TSB? My truck is driving me insane hearing this noise.

Hello, I just purchased a 2020 ram 2500 bighorn diesel night edition and the last 3 or 4 days have noticed an annoying chirp from the passenger middle to front, taking it in to dealer next week. Anybody have this happen from the middle to front? Also, started with less than 1300 miles. Thanks in advance.

You have the exact same issue. It's the brakes.

Just picked up a 2020 Rebel 1500, this squeak/chirp was present from the very beginning. It's small quick bumps that trigger it... weird that it's the caliper, but based on where the direction of the sound is coming from, that makes sense.
