Best tuner for 2019 Ram 1500

No Piggy Back tuners for other high performance Dodge products so why do you think there’s so much more to this device than speeding up the throttle body? I get it feels better but it’s not changing anything in the TCM. That cost me HP credits etc. To the tune of 500 alone in my Hellcat so this product is not doing any transmission adjustment you can bet on..

If a piggy back system was able to make satisfactory adjustments to the actual tuning, the market on the performance side would have embraced it and not have the handful of reputable tuners running off thier feet busy.

I’m all for fun but don’t like when keyboard heroes get on a forum talking like they know something like tuning and cannot back it up (no names will be mentioned) if you are not a tuner don’t present seat of pants and fantasy power as reality.

Put a truck on a Dyno before and after

Myself I will contact my tuner Mike at OST DYNO and ask him to chime in here. I don’t know if he is willing but if he does then there’s some legitimate knowledge to base decisions on for the un educated. If somebody else say wants to reach out to another legitimate Dodge tuner please do.

This is a nice simple product that can accomplish minor stuff but let’s not hype it up to be the same as actual PCM/TCM tuning. A sprint booster or pedal commander might give 90% of this device at a lower cost.
its been on a dyno. 26hp gain in performance mode.
 
Well the only alleged Dyno runs claiming 26 Hp not forthcoming it seems. Anyone else took the truck to the Dyno’s?
 
If it made that power I might re consider it doing throttle speed etc as well but I think that’s a little optimistic.. all it can really do is advance spark a little thus 91 so I’m thinking 4-5 Hp but, heears hoping
 
Who knows if this is accurate but the curve resembles the difference I've felt. I'm sure this came from the manufactuter. The area under the curve in the lower RPMs has more torque and therefore more power. The max HP is the same since there is no increase in the max fueling or airflow. It does affect driveability. Acceleration at lower shift points feels stronger. It's not just throttle mapping unless I'm missing something.

I'd really like to see an owner do back to back pulls with and without to put this to bed. Anyone?

Once I get my truck, I plan to put about 2000 miles on it (won't take long-I have 70K trouble free miles on my 16') and do a dyno baseline. Then install the Borla Touring that's waiting in the box and my ordered AFE Momentum GT Pro (AFE says Feb) After another 1000 or so miles, one more dyno. Still on the fence regarding the Pulsar...Also, Whipple will have their 19' Ram Hemi Supercharger kit available soon (late Feb estimated)...Damm shame there was not an option box to check for a factory 6.2SC.

I have a dyno set up. Just need to get time to get on it.
 
YouTube video of a 2017 with the Pulsar installed pulling some timed rolling start runs to 60mph. Pretty impressive results for a non-scientific review.

I can see how by using these pulls they can claim "up to" 30hp gain (as there appears to be a gain throughout the curve) but I'd love to see a few runs from a real owner and not the manufacturer!
 
I have had tuners of some sort on almost every truck I've owned. Never been amazed, but also never been disappointed. Looking very seriously at the Edge.
 
There is really only one tuner available right now. The Powerteq Pulsar. Diablosport, Edge and Superchips are all basically the same company. They are all owned by Powerteq who makes all of these tuners. They also make the Pulsar and simply resell it via Diablosport and Edge.
 
For those that purchased the Pulsar, If your intent is to disable MDS then it won't really do that. What it does is interecept when the truck goes into MDS then turns it off. So that is the surging you are hearing from people.
...what does MDS stand for?

If the Pulsar does what it actually claims it does then the manufacture can detect it even if you remove it. There are certain values the ECU and TCM datalogs and has limits on and when those are exceeded they know you have tune. Will they check these values if you go in for an oil change or blinker fluid? No.....but if you go in for transmission replacement or you blow your engine then either the dealer or a RAM warranty specialist will. Most manufactures of these types of mods will cite the Mag-Moss act. It give false comfort to people looking for an excuse to buy mods. Will the Mag-Moss act save your suspension warranty if have a Pulsar? Yes.....but your engine and transmission warranty would be at risk for sure.

I don't care if it's a piggy back or a flash tune the above is true. I've had piggy back (most recent is JB4 on my BMW) and flash tunes (most recent is bootmod3 on the BMW) on like my last 7 cars. I was also a knowledge expert with creating custom JB4 tunes. So I'm not against tunes and not trying to tell people not to do it, but make sure you don't have a false sense of security.

Also I'm still waiting on a dyno from one of you with a Pulsar. A Dynojet or Mustang dyno will do so we can see the delta of the before and after.

EDIT: Some manufactures do run full ECU/TCM diagnostic when you go in for just regular service. Audi it notorious for this. BMW has started to do it too. Basically the first thing the tech does when you go if for an oil change (as an example) is hook up your car to a diagnostics machine to check for any ECU/TCM problems. This all get uploaded to their "cloud". It will flag your car for tunes as well. It's done automatically with no input from the tech. More manufactures are doing this to gather data on their customers.

This is why with this truck as it’s not my fast vehicle I think I will be happy with just a sprint booster to clean the throttle up a tad.
