Bad fuel mileage 5.7 hemi

not sure what you consider higher trims but my sticker was 62k and my truck wont hold more than 21 gallons and it sucks

Pretty strange considering that the DS has a 26 gallon standard tank and a 33 gallon option.

I installed a hard bed cover (quad cab), aired up to 65/55 psi and have gone from consistent low 18's to 19.5. I already have 13k on the truck so should be broken in. I drive the exact same roads at the same time with the same gas station and the same speed.

The cover was noticeable how much less it wanted to slow down but the biggest effect was upping the air pressure in the duratracs. It is NOTICEABLE how much easier they roll with more air even from the stock 55/45 pressure. Eco mode comes on more, overall I am extremely happy with mpg after those changes. This week I averaged 19.5 and that's about a 70/30 hwy/city. Try it out (probly o ly works on the big 33" duratracs)

Where did you get 55/45 as the stock pressure? I have the factory 22" wheels and I'm pretty sure my door tag says the pressure should be 36psi front and rear.

36/36 for stock 22’s

I seem to remember that the eTorque trucks get a 23 gallon tank instead of the 26 as standard equipment.
There is no 23, and there's no change in tank options due to trim level. eTorque option makes no change to the fuel capacity.

19 rebel has LT275 duratracs door tag says 55/45, Max psi 80 on the tires

Light truck AT/MT tires are a different animal than passenger tires

Forum member Rammit said he upgraded his 23 gallon tank (he has eTorque) to 33 gallon. Just one example.

Last year I did an analysis on the weight of various options. As part of that analysis the eTorque system itself weighs 120 but only brought an 80# payload penalty. That got me looking for the differences like the smaller fuel tank and aluminum spare wheel.

Just curious how you came to the conclusion that there is no 23 gal tank.

I have the wildpeak 20's and I keep 35-36 in em unless towing, I run 38 front and 42 rear...

Boom. Higher tire pressure, flush bed cover. 70mph. Previously was 18.3-18.7 at stock tire pressure and no bed cover, very repeatable.

you should check your facts! I have a 23 gallon tank according to the dealer and it has never held over 21 gallons!

Well, Ram doesn't list a 23 gallon option for the DT 1500 using their website. I saw reference to 23 gallons as standard on some builds prior to the trucks being released. I can't find any trucks online with a 23 gallon tank.

Are you filling up at the bottom of the white area in the fuel gauge. Did you know that there's a red area to the left of the white markings before you get to "E"?

i have actually run out of gas on the road, then filled up at a little over 21 gallons, is that accurate enough for you?

Looks like a Canadian catalog with tank sizes published in liters. Based on that, there's the standard 25.9 gallon, the 33 gallon, and a 23 gallon on the V6.
brochure.JPG

Shows the Laramie standard with what is essentially a 26 gallon with a 33 gallon option. Poster with a 21 gallon tank says he has a Laramie. Doesn't specify CC or QC. Must be a one of a kind truck, like a coin that has the same face on both sides. It's probably more valuable than our regular trucks.

I just drove round trip to Dallas on Saturday (on one tank - 504 miles).

Drove 70 MPH 90% of the way. Averaged 19.4 MPG for the whole trip. I was a little over 20-21 MPG on the way there, but coming back it was raining and encountered a few accidents with stop & go traffic, otherwise, I believe I would have achieved closer to 20 MPG. Mileage goes way up if you keep it at 65 MPH or below. I'm happy with what I got.

BGW, dash display was spot on with Fuelly (19.3 vs 19.4). Pretty cool.

Cheers,

5.7 eTorque with 3.92 Axle: Was seeing about 14MPG combined. Now seeing about 15.5MPG combined after 3K miles. I have a pretty heavy foot. Like to accelerate fairly fast and do about 8MPH over limit freeway driving. Was getting about 16.7MPG combined out of my 2010 4WD Pilot so feel this is pretty good considering rear end gear. Based on reading think I'd see ~17MPG with 3.21 gear so I'm OK.

I doubt this to be true. Ran out of gas already in a Brand new truck that hasn’t been owned very long? Seems highly unlikely.

And if it is, stop doing that. It’s insane. There’s a gauge that tells you when to fill it up. And a stupid light now and warning message thanks to these types of people. Causing traffic, safety concerns, and inconveniencing everyone trying to go about their day for pure laziness.

We’re at about 25k miles. Truck is a 2019 Limited 5.7 eTorque 3.21 w/ sunroof, 26 gallon standard tank, factory 20” 275/55R20 Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza, only mod so far is a soft trifold gator Tonneau cover and a bed rug (just the bottom of the bed, not the sides). Saturday, we drove 260 miles round trip w/ 2/3 on the highway (65-75 mph) in moderate to heavy rain and the other 1/3 on mixed 35-55 mph country roads with plenty of hills and crossing through a couple of fords, etc. We had 2 adults plus a 75 pound dog, about 50 pounds of supplies in the floorboard next to the dog, 150 pounds of sand against the tailgate w/ a cargo bar holding them in place, and the usual ~75 pounds of tools and gear under the back seats and in the floor storage. We averaged 21.1 MPG with the screen display and the manual calcs matching within 0.1 mpg.

After a bunch of other errands this week, I had no trouble putting >21 gallons in it today with >65 miles range still showing on the display. That was to a single click to stop filling, and I’m sure I could have hit 22 if I’d waited to let it settle down and went for another fill-to-click but we had stuff to do.
