Well. I hate starting threads. Especially those that van be perceived as whiney. I really had the S*** scared out of myself and family today. I do not drive a lot of miles due to work being close to home. Also still have my 13 so I drive it still. Today I decided to drive the new truck. I did a lot of driving today actually. Well long story short. I was driving along and the truck started beeping as if there was a car and slammed on the brakes. HOLY S***! Tires screeched wife screamed kids yelled and NOTHING. There was no car.. no anything. Completely empty road in front and luckily behind because I would have for sure been rear ended. I was not on cruise control I was on a side street. Then once I got to a light about a block away I came to a voluntary stop and the truck demanded to be put into park and wouldn't move out of that until I actually cycled the ignition.

Man. I have had the brake kick in going reverse but forwards at 50 MPH. Thats a terrible situation. SO I have disabled it for now. I have 1400 miles not he truck.

I love the adaptive cruise its a great thing but this made me a bit gun shy for sure. Anyways. Just a heads up guys not anymore than a vent from me. I had to let it be know that it had happened.

Hello 9RamLimited,

I am terribly sorry to hear this happened to you and your family. Can you send us a direct message with your VIN? I'd like to get this documented within our system for further review.

Thanks,

When mine was a week old my brake sensor warning lite up when crossing a canilever bridge on the Ohio River but it didn’t engage the brakes. It did it agian a few weeks later crossing it agian. My guess is the arch of the road or the steel in the bridge is confusing the sensor. Fast forward to this week and I was driving a narrow back street which which you have to weave in and out of park cars on both sides and I was going probably 20mph and the truck slammed on the barkes to complete stop. Scared the sh** out of me. Apparently picked up one of the cars which I wasn’t close to hitting but it didn’t know I was about to turn the wheel and freeked out.

This video explains the Auto brake so it will apply brakes if it thinks you're not going to.

Sorry to dig up an older thread but I was driving in the rain recently in my 2019 Ram Limited with about 1000 miles. Not using adaptive cruise at the time. First time in a heavy rain. Driving at about 40 on straight area of surface street. Several times i get a BRAKE BRAKE warning! Nothing around! I am going to take it to the dealer soon. Scared the crap out of me. It didn't hit the brakes because i did but had someone been behind me.....

Yeah I'm telling you, I turn mine off front and rear and kick it on if I'm pulling into a tight spot.

I don't think it's totally uncommon regardless of the make. Here's 88 pages on the F150 forum.

I agree. My Sierra has FCW. No active braking. It just vibrates the seat and red lights flash on the windshield if you're rapidly approaching a slow or stopped vehicle. I had it go off on me one time when there wasn't another vehicle in sight. Freaky. Straight, flat road. Very light rain. I thought I missed something up ahead even though I always have my eyes on the road. Maybe the rain threw it for a loop.

It is a radar system... if you were in heavy rain it was probably throwing back a signal it interpreted as an object...

No offense, but technology isn't always the greatest! Anybody remember the first PC with Windows and the blue screen of death? Who wants the first Autonomous car? What before it crashes you'll get a "OK to Terminate" on the windshield? No thank you!
Sincerly, May everybody be safe out there! (y)

My husband has had this problem twice now the most recent was yesterday doing between 40 and 50 mph. Have you found anything out on why its happening?

I have not, I made sure they updated all of my modules in my truck. I have have almost turned it off its too sensitive. Sometimes when entering a highway aggressively as is required in Dallas because no one wants to allow you onto their road. It will kick in. I hate it. Ill be entering the highway attempting to get over to the left because just as I enter the split in the highway is right in front of me so I Have to get closer to cars and it will slam on the brakes in the middle of accelerating to attempt getting across the highway. I dont know if its a good thing or not so I am scared to turn it off. You just have to drive to anticipate it happening possibly.

Anyone that lives in Dallas and knows the perils of coming off the DNT south and onto 35 in front of the AAC knows what I am describing. The entrance is also an exit to another stretch of highway Woodall Rodgers. So you have to enter into everyone exiting to the two right lanes for that and get to the left for 35 south. It never fails the brakes lock up there.

The first time it was a wide open road. that was ridiculous.

1) Had it slam on the brakes with the cruise on at about 30 in traffic. I think it sensed a car 1 lane over about 30 feet ahead. Scared the crap out of me since it was unexpected and unnecessary. Fortunately no one was tailgating me.

2) Had it happen when it sensed a car in a driveway in the apex of a turn. Doing about 45 on a back road with wife in the car. Freaked us both out. Just another instance where it was unexpected and completely unnecessary. There was nothing strange about the turn and the other car was well away from the road. There was nothing about the situation that would make you think anything was going on that warranted a full brake. Wife's screaming at me wondering why I've lost my mind and am slamming on the brakes. Not necessarily an unfair reaction....but sucks.

I've lost all faith in the forward collision in these trucks. Never had anything like this happen with my wife's audi or a previous honda crv with all this same tech.

I now spend a good part of my time thinking about how the truck is going to perceive the environment and am constantly anticipating it freaking out. Almost like a hiccup.

Am I missing something here? The FCW has several options regarding sensitivity up to including turning it off or just getting a warning?

I thought this thread was talking about Forward Collision Warning, not the rear parking brake? Again, am I missing something?
No you are correct. This should be about the front end collision.
The rear parking brake has 2 setting. OFF/ON no sensitivity.
You are correct, the rear has the on and off settings, however, we are discussing the Forward Collision which I believe has more settings. If I remember correctly, there should be Far, Medium, Close along with Sounds only and Off. I don't remember if there are volume adjustments as well but I am sure someone will chime in. I don't have access to my truck while at work......working.....(here would be an emoji but the button is not working for me)

I have how had this happen to me multiple times. Truck just slammed on the brakes at 40mph scaring my entire family...Once with a car in front of us, but was not even close, way too sensitive... once with no one in front of us.... Just a random crazy slamming of the brakes on an empty road... once where light reflecting from a bridge above sets off the warning. Once while slowly coming up to a parking toll booth. And then just random backing up braking with NOTHING behind me...

Adaptive cruise was NOT IN USE, This is just the front collision sensing feature.

I am surprised I have not been in an accident. Getting rear ended is my biggest concern.

Whoever calibrated the emergency braking needs FIRED.

TSB our for this

I plan on taking mine in cause it happens to me all the time backing into parking spaces drives me nuts and makes me look like a rookie driver lol

Hope this helps.
Same here. Happened twice in the last two days and other times prior with only normal height curbs behind me or something pretty far away. That document shows production dates of April of 2018 or earlier. Mine was built in November ‘18. Hopefully they will look into it for me while I’m gettythe recalls fixed tomorrow.

November 2018 build date, had it happen while backing up in a parking lot once, and once in the driveway backing up.
Nothing within 15 feet of me either time.
It is now disabled, I don't trust it to brake for me! The camera, sensors, and camera's guidance lines are sufficient.
