I have an R3 that I mounted up high on the windshield. I used a BlendMount in my last car, but I felt like in the Ram it would be just hanging out in space.

I tucked the cable under the headliner and down the A pillar to the fuse panel.

The mount was about $10 off eBay and is just a piece of aluminum with some 3M VHB tape. Works perfectly for me.

Can you still use your sun visor with it mounted that way? The pic is a little hard to tell but if the sun visor does come fully down then is your radar screen blocked?

Thats a good question. I don’t think I can have it all the way up but I’d say 90% of the way. It does block the detector but honestly I have 50% tint on the front windshield and I haven’t had an issue with direct sunlight so I don’t use my visor.

This is what it looks like from the side. I can lower the visor so it’s about vertical before it touches the R3.

I’m 6’4” so I don’t typically use the visor more than slightly lowered. That’s also why I didn’t use the BlendMount this time. It would position the radar detector at something like chin level for me.

Yep...I have an R7 with the Tech Package. Used the Blendmount and bought a hardwire kit for $10 on Amazon and fuse tapped it right into the fuse panel. Install will take about 20-30 minutes tops. Happy to help if you want to PM me and share cell numbers. I have been installing electronics in cars and trucks for over 30 years.

On a clear day, I can see Seattle from my house.

I used one of those once in another vehicle. Left a discolored spot right under the pad. Never was able to get rid of that stain.
Besides, just a 1/4" strip at either end. Stays where I put it and removes easily. For cleaning. Yeah. Cleaning - just like the dashcam next to it.

Yeah. Needs a dusting and a good wipedown.
Not exactly what I was referring to my friend, but a great reply :ROFLMAO: Get that crap off the dash and up where it belongs with all wires routed nicely so you don't have to look at that mess every time you get into your nice truck. For a few bucks and 30-45 minutes time, you can transform that mess into a nice installation;)

This is my setup on the V1, until the Theia is released.
Beautiful install my friend. Funny you mention the Radenso Theia. I was holding off looking at alternatives to my R7, like the new V1G2 or the Escort Redline 360c, until Radenso finally releases the Theia and has reviews by Vortex. Where did you get your mirror mount from? Now THIS ^^^ is what all radar/dash cam installs should look like :)

Thanks Brother.

I’m on the same boat. Also impressed by the Redline 360c, which is my second pick if Theia does not materialize. Sounds like we are both looking at the same things.

Regarding the mount, it’s just a cheapo mount I got on AMZ since at the time I wasn’t sure how I would like a mirror mount and did not want to spend $100 on one. Turned out to be pretty decent for $25. Not super sturdy, but if does the job and it’s been fine for a year and a half.

The Redline is also my second choice based on Theia results and cost...that thing could top $1K from what I'm hearing. I like the V1G2, but they missed the boat by not putting a GPS chip in the darn thing and making folks rely on smartphone connectivity that I don't want to be bothered with.

Is it possible to tap into the mirror with the tech package?
I don't know how comfortable I feel running the cable that far.

As a professional installer, I don't like to do mirror taps so I suggest folks stay away from them especially with how easy it is to run wires down to the fuse panel in a RAM. If wiring is a major PITA for some folks, based on the vehicle, a DIY way is to use a mirror tap but I don't recommend them.

Right. Love the V1, but is def behind the times. I also want integrated GPS so I don’t have to rely on my phone (current setup), as well as OTA updates.

The R7 is a great detector. Just wish they could activate the AUTO-GPS feature as I thought Escort's patent was expired and Uniden said it would be released in an update last Summer. The Redline has received awesome reviews (and for $750 it should be awesome) and the world is still waiting on the Radenso (they say they are having issues getting parts due to COVID)🙁
