Anyone running the Uniden R7 in their Gen 5?

Recent 1.37 update makes the R7 even better. Updated about a week ago, and lockouts and arrow direction perform significantly better. Great RD!!!
Yep...the R7 just keeps getting better and better! Installing it today in the new Suby :)

I need some help on deciding to mount it up high to the left of the RVM. Already ordered the direct wire kit, but then realized that it keeps me from being able to use the drivers visor. I have it mounted with the large suction cup mount.

I don't really like the idea of mounting it below the mirror for the whole world to see. Also, mounting it low center isn't very aesthetic due to the coiled cord hanging down.

Anyone know of a better location/mounting method?
I'm with you brother. I was really disappointed not to be able to put my V1G2 up high above the RVM in my Ram.
I also hate to advertise that I have a RD, including using a blend mount.
Look at my post on page 4 of this thread.
I settled on the left side dash. Big compromise, but I'm used to it now.
I keep a black washcloth in the door pocket and throw it over the RD anytime I'm parked in 'shady' areas.

Firing up an old thread. Im debating getting an R3 or R7. what can you guys recommend and how hard is it to hardwire in?

R7 all the way...no comparison and worth the extra bucks. You can hardwire one in less than 15 minutes with a fuse tap...super easy and happy to walk you through it. I have done this several times.

Cool ill hit you up when i decide to pull the trigger. im researching now on the differences between the r3 and r7

Hi all so is the consensus here to use a fuse tap to fuse F66 for a hardwire?

The fuse taps on amazon only have one wire, but i thought the r7 hardwire kit had two wires? Is that right?

The wire for the fuse tap is positive. You connect the black to ground on the chassis.

I like everything about the R3 better then the R7 except the R7 has more features.

I hate the placement of the mute button on the R7.

The R3 has a nice compact body and it's lightweight.

The R7 is MUCH quieter, far more feature rich, has auto GPS lockout now, arrows that are the best in the industry, and many more. It's ONLY disadvantage is the MUTE button positioning, but that's no showstopper by any means. If you want the best RD money can buy without spending almost twice that amount on an Escort Redline 360c...it is hands-down, the R7 by a long shot!

Yep pretty much like I said. The R7 has more features.

You are very welcome. Yes Sir, there is. When you remove the plastic knee plate that hides the fuse box, there is a great ground in the upper left of where that panel came off.
